Making a bold statement…shopping with girlfriends…and more reader style

Pamela Lutrell in Chico's print pantsOf course, we love to shop with girlfriends, but I have also enjoyed shopping with you virtually on this blog (we’re girlfriends, right?) as we look at clothing and discuss what works or doesn’t work for our over 50 fashion and style. It is always fun to shop with those who will encourage and help us to step out of our comfort zones to do a new bold thing.

These are the Chico’s pants YOU recently talked me into buying and I am so glad you did.  They are a great pant and were on sale at a great price….and just a little out of my comfort zone when I tried them on.

Over 50 Feeling 40 after Chico's sale

Here is what reader Connie said about me pictured in these pants in the Chico’s dressing room, “I just checked and those pants are a great price on sale! I have similar ones from Chicos that are smaller links and don’t find them limiting at all. I wear them with a gold lurex sweater set, a black sweater, a golden tee and black blazer with a large black necklace and also with a long black tunic and gold chains. Pam, order them online now! You are just too fabulous in them….I am a bit of a shopper’s enabler.”  You can see all of the comments in the post Tips for Shopping January Sales.

Connie, and her enthusiasm, sealed the deal!  They are still on sale, though the sale price has Increased from last week’s special clearance prices.  I am wearing them with a Chico’s top that I have owned for awhile, but am just now wearing again since beginning to lose weight.

I have also featured some of the brave, stylish women of San Antonio who are not afraid to make bold choices with their style.  Let’s start with Linda in her fabulous printed leggings.

Next, meet Barbara wearing a dot print blouse with a dot print jacket!

Milady is a rock star from work.  She loves sustainable, thrift shopping and pulls her looks together with courage and creativity.  Meet Milady here.

All three are stepping out of their comfort zones to wear something different and bold.  These are the type of women I like to go shopping with…they may have the eye to see something I don’t and encourage me to do a new thing.  So, thanks to Connie and all of you who encouraged me to go with this pant…it is fun and I will get my cost per wear lower with it…because it was on sale for a great price and I am a Chico’s Passport customer that delivers an additional 5% off and free shipping!  Woo Hoo!

MORE READER STYLE

Today, we are going to look at Sharon…who sent more than five adjectives, but she made me smile.  I am trying to take into consideration the whole list, so let’s see how I do with inspiring Sharon and women like her who want to communicate with their style that they are Current, Classy, Confident, Comfortable, Relaxed (I think we could combine comfortable and relaxed), coordinated, calm, fun, and vibrant.  I would recommend you drop the list, Sharon, to current, classy, comfortable, fun and vibrant.   I know this is me and may not be you, but I would rather communicate to the world that I am fun and vibrant over calm.  I think when you communicate these five in one look, you will be confident…it is the end result of dressing true to your personal messages.  Let us know here what you think of this evaluation!

Also, if there is anyone else you has decided to make some bold statements with your style in 2020, please share with us what you are considering!

KEEP SMILING!

  1. You look fabulous in that outfit! I have seen those pants in Chicos but was afraid to try them. You have inspired me to go for it!

  2. I have the link here, Pamela…just click on the small image of the pant. They are a great fit!

  3. I absolutely LOVE you in this outfit! And you are rockin’ that hair! Is something a little different there The slideshow was fabulous – that 1st outfit from Soft Surroundings – Hidden Garden Topper w/ jeans&sandals – is amazing! Another winner! 🙂

  4. I just got it cut! It grows fast so will be much longer when I go back in for weeks! Thanks so much, Shirley!

  5. Pam you are such a joy with great energy! Thank you for doing what you do for us. PS you look fabulous.

  6. So happy you purchased the pants Pam as looking very urban CHIC. (Classy, stylish, comfortable with an edge.) Feel too that they give the allusion of a longer leg length (with the vertical chain link drawing the eye upward similar to what a pair of striped ones would do) and particularly paired with the shorter top.

As for a bold statement in my style; for 2020 am going to focus more on my makeup as on a daily basis wear very little and can’t remember when the last time I wore lipstick (other than a clear or sightly tinted gloss).

  7. Love the pants! And I love the dot print blouse with the dot print jacket! I like shopping with my sister because she is always able to find things I would not normally consider, say the magic words, “This is you! Try it on!” and she always nails it! Also suggests where to wear it. She has definitely nudged me out of my comfort zone and into some fun!

  8. The Chico’s pants are gorgeous on you Pam! You’ve never steered me wrong …these are my school colors…I’ve just ordered these good looking pants with the intention of wearing these to my upcoming high school reunion! ?

  9. She is a blessing to you, Karen. I can tell. And so many women do not have that gift.

  10. Good Morning, Pam – you look lovely in the outfit, and super confident. I feel like you are in the role of both friend, as you note, and paper doll, for us readers. Through you and your posts we get to consider various looks virtually, and are nudged ever so gently forward.
On another note, I wanted to mention that I very much enjoyed the musical and lunch this past Saturday with my friends. We took a photo I hoped to share, but my outfit didn’t show since I was behind my friends. In any case, I did wear the black straight leg slacks, along with black low heeled loafers for practicality. It was a mild day with no rain (so rare) so I left the coat at home and was able to wear a charcoal colored cashmere & wool blend longer topper over a Nordstrom navy blue chiffon blouse with goldenrod flowers. I carried my structured navy Dooney to reference the navy.

  11. Sounds like you nailed it, Connie. So glad you felt confident and had a good time. I haven’t thought of paper dolls in years! But, I am happy to be anyone’s paper doll. Brings back fond memories….thanks so much.

  12. Those pants are so you!!! This is one my favorite outfits on you — really terrific!

What a fun post today. I enjoyed the photos and reading the comments from the other readers. It’s nice to be a part of this sisterhood of shoppers!

  13. Your outfit definitely fits your adjectives & looks great. I also love the lady with the dot print blouse & jacket. Thank you for encouraging us to step outside our comfort zones & try something new.

  14. You are very welcome Pam. I’m so happy my encouragement made you go back for those slacks. See, I was right… you look MARVELOUS my dear! My family will be most impressed that I’m also a virtual shopping enabler now…

  15. Pam I am always so afraid of pattern on the bottom but it looks wonderful on you! Love seeing the ladies of San Antonio too!

  16. I think the fit of the pant makes a huge difference. The way these fit is great, but that is not always the case. I am glad I decided to go with these. Thanks for stopping by, Cindy!

  17. Pam, you really put a lot of effort into the slide show for me! I know I was a challenge since I couldn’t pare down my list….but you helped! As you know from another email, as I purged my closet I found that I am really a CLASSIC (kind of tailored and preppy) and so I would like to put in Classic instead of Classy and keep the rest of your suggestion as stated above. So my five adjectives would be Classic, Current, Comfortable, Fun, and Vibrant. Can I be Classic AND Current? I have been paying attention to what I am drawn to when I shop and the above is it! Thank you so much for your assistance. Given the change in my adjectives, I found as I looked at the slide show that many of your suggestions (based on my former adjectives) are the very things I got rid of in my wardrobe! The Talbots jacket and striped tee underneath is exactly the way I dress and there were a couple of others I would wear as well. I so appreciate the challenge to really think about who I am and what messages I want to project in my clothing choices in order to purchase with a purpose and not just on a whim because I think I like it! What a help!!! So, thank you again! ALSO you really rock those Chicos pants! So glad you got them!

  18. Pam, this morning I re-read what I wrote yesterday and I realized part of it sounded terrible and like a criticism of your picks for me! I DID NOT mean it the way it came out. When I said that many of the things I ended up purging from my closet were a lot like what you had picked for me in your slide show I meant that those styles are many times what I think I like, so then I buy, and then I never wear. By purging my closet I got a true picture of what I like to wear and what I like on other people but do not wear myself. Does that make sense? So that is why I am so very grateful for your assistance in helping me define myself. I guess up till very recently I had no idea! So I do apologize if I hurt your feelings. I did not mean to in any sense. Thank you for letting me explain myself.

  19. Sharon, LOL…seriously, I am laughing. I did not take anything you said as mean! Please be at peace. I knew you were struggling because of the number of adjectives you sent, but then you realized something different. I am going to do a new slide show for you tomorrow. This process is the get you thinking about what you wear and what it says about you. I want you to have confident style. You are so sweet to be concerned but no offense was taken at all. I think this is fun and helping you think through the process is a true joy!

  20. Absolutely! This has helped me more than you will ever know! Can’t wait until tomorrow! Hugs!
