Would You Wear It with Pam and Jennifer

Pamela Lutrell for Would You Wear It

Happy Saturday, everyone, and I hope you had an amazing Thanksgiving full of joyful moments (and great food).  This is Would You Wear It day with me and my friend, Jennifer.  We go around and look for mannequins dressed in ways that make us wonder if you would or would not wear the look as styled.  Sometimes, readers like to also comment on the fashion display techniques…answering the question, does the display make you want to spend money or inspire you to wear a similar look?  All we ask is that you keep your comments personal…does the look work or not work for you personally and why?  Please do not comment in a way that might offend another reader if she felt differently.

Over 50 feeling 40 ask Would You Wear It

I have seen some really interesting displays lately.  We had a lively discussion last week…you can see it HERE if you are just now stopping by.  So, let’s get going…look over this one I found recently.  I have a full body shot at the top and a closer look here.  Tell us, everyone………………………………………………..

WOULD YOU WEAR IT?

After you answer, make sure to check out Jennifer’s mannequin at A WELL STYLED LIFE.  Then I hope you will return for my slide show below.  The sales have officially kicked in for the holidays.  It is a great time to shop for yourself or for gifts.  Please remember if you click through to a site from my slideshow and decide to purchase something else, I can still earn a small credit for you doing that.  Covering the costs of blogging is important and keeps me here.

Thanks so much for being here…I appreciate all of you more than you know.

KEEP SMILING, EVERYONE

  1. No to the plaid bathrobe. If it was shorter & looked more like a jacket, I’d wear it with this outfit. I like the denim shirt & the skinny pants. Having a plaid jacket would punch up the outfit a bit.

  2. I would not wear this as styled, as it looks like someone has thrown a robe on over their outfit. I would wear the plaid dress on it’s own over leggings or tights, and I’d wear the pants and shirt as another outfit. I’m ambivalent about the shoes.

  3. I agree this looks like a bathrobe, too messy looking for me. If it were more structured I might like it.

  4. I like combining a denim shirt with black jeans/pants, but it looks like they topped it with a robe. I am presuming this might actually be a dress styled as a duster, but this just does not work in my opinion. I also don’t care for the brown shoes shown on the mannequin. If you wanted to add plaid (which is popular during the holidays) find a wrap or jacket, just not this article of clothing.

  5. A dress worn over jeans and a shirt? Yes, it looks like a man’s bathrobe. The pattern of the plaid is to large + loud for me. I would wear the jeans, shirt and shoes.

  6. My first thought, too, is a bathrobe over a jean shirt and leggings? For me? No.
I am only 5 ft4 and maybe if Ibwere 30 and tall, not my current age and not very tall, this could work but for me personally? I’d stay with the leggings and shirt with a cute jacket or solid duster.

  7. Would definitely wear the leggings but for the rest of the outfit a ‘no’ for myself. Reasons; the closure on the blouse appears to be snaps that I prefer to avoid as unlike the loss of a button or broken zipper once damaged is beyond repair. Secondly I seldom wear shirt dresses let alone would enjoy having to fidget with so many buttons and though a fan of plaid, I prefer it in small dosages. Also the way it is displayed my knee jerk reaction was ‘it looks like a bathrobe’ (as Jean pointed out). As for the shoes, they are just not my style. -Brenda-
P.S.: Kudos to the stylist though for their attempt at creative presentation.

  8. Hmmm. I like three piece outfits but not these three pieces together. If that was a plaid flannel hoodie overshirt it would be really cute.

  9. I think the display has overdone it on the layering. The flannel dress over the denim shirt would do me no favors. I’d looked stuffed.
I like the dress and would wear it with the leggings, particularly if I had those cute shoes. I’ve seen those around and wondered where they came from. Do you suppose it’s possible to walk more than two steps without them flopping off?
If the shoes don’t work then it would be dark tights with a dark shoe to keep the long line going.
I would wear the dress over a tank, possibly even a tank dress -I have one of those in my closet that I bought on a whim thinking about layering it- with the leggings and the shoes. Over it I’d layer a jean jacket or a jean jacket vest. It would give a person that “column of color” that we all think is slimming.

For me the deal breaker on the dress is whether the size 12 is wide enough across the hip to sit down without the buttons pulling, and it needs to be below the knee.

  10. Love the shoes! I did think the dress was a robe at first glance, think could look good alone with brown leather belt.
It seems the stylist didn’t take much time putting this outfit together, so messy around the waist line. Agree with others that dress is too long.

  11. I’d wear this dress alone and pair it with a brown leather belt (as Lois above mentioned) and maybe with boots, too.

The plaid fabric would make a great top and I’d wear it with jeans or black trousers.

I think this outfit is geared toward very young women.

  12. No.
Hate the shoes…and they are bad for snow
It looks like a bathrobe. and the rumpled untucked shirt and leggings underneath just add to the “my week was a nightmare-The only effort I want to put in is hibernating at home,
pouring chardonnay, and taking the phone off the hook” look
That being said, I love wraps, kimonos, sweaters etc. I might wear the plaid dress over something else …without the bathrobe tie

  13. I would not wear it as styled. The denim shirt & black pants would be fine. If they had added a plaid jacket, even a long one, it would be fine. The dress might be fine for someone else on its own, but the way it is left open & sloppily self belted does make it look like a bath robe.

  14. I would not wear this outfit as shown, but with some minor changes I would. Others have said the plaid dress reminds them of a robe and I agree., especially with that self belt. I do love plaid flannel so if this dress was shirt length or just below the bum with a shirt tail instead of straight bottom, I would wear it without the self belt. I love chambray shirts and this one looks exactly like one I have with the pearlized snaps. The leggings/jeggings are fine, nothing special. The shoes are cute, but I would not wear them because I don’t need to be walking out of my shoes or them falling off with every step.

  15. I would not wear this outfit as styled. The leggings or jeggings would work in my wardrobe. The denim shirt might, however, I have 2 denim shirts I don’t wear so I’m unlikely to buy another one. I don’t care for plaid so I wouldn’t wear it as a dress, let alone as a “duster.” The shoes are cute but not for me. I have a high instep and probably couldn’t even get that shoe on! One last note, the two sleeves rolled together look sloppy and like they’d be annoying to wear!

  16. This might make a great travel piece: wear it over leggings, as a ‘jacket’ over pants or a dress, add a leather belt to make it a dress, and as a robe…

  17. I agree with others that, as an ensemble, this outfit isn’t really working. It’s much too casual for me. However, I would wear the plaid shirt dress with black leggings, with black ankle boots. I would add a wide black leather belt to add some visual interest. I might wear the skinny pant/leggings show here but not the denim shirt.
