Would You Wear It with Pam & Jennifer

It’s time for WOULD YOU WEAR IT Saturday with me and my friend, Jennifer.  We go out and about and find fashion displays that make us stop and wonder, Would our audience wear it?  We ask that you tell us if you would or would not wear it, and explain why or why not the look works or doesn’t work for you! Got it?  Please keep it personal so if someone believes differently from you, your comment does not bring hurt.

I actually had another display planned from today, but when I was shopping yesterday, I came across this dress and wanted to know immediately what you thought.  So please look it over, and then tell us

WOULD YOU WEAR IT??

Everyone in South Texas is beyond giddy that the weather may change on Monday!  A little touch fall may eek it’s way down here.  So, that puts us all in the mood to shop.  I have a fun slideshow here and make sure you notice the savings on many of the retailer sites.

Then, head over to A WELL STYLED LIFE and tell Jennifer what you think of her mannequin!  After commenting, shopping, commenting again, remember to

ALWAYS KEEP SMILING!!

  1. I like the color & print of this dress, but that’s about it. I’m not a big fan of self-tie bows at the neckline. The puffy sleeves & the ruffle at the bottom all feel outdated to me. I’m not sure exactly what it’s reminding me of but maybe something from the 70″s?
Overall, I’d have to pass on this one.

  2. For this sweet dress, I must say no. I’m older and a bit curvy, not tall, I Think I would look ridiculous in this dress from length, fabric, detail. I’d look awful in it.
Now the grey jeans and tee, just next to the dress—this is for me! Yes!

  3. Personally, I would walk right by this and not even look. It just doesn’t catch my eye at all. I am not a big fan of a flounce at the bottom of a dress or blouse. I also am not sure about the puffy sleeves. I am always on the lookout for clothing that slims, so flounces and poofs don’t usually get a second look by me. The color of the dress would not work with my pale complexion. This unfortunately is a no for me.

  4. I love the shape & style of the dress. It is very retro, like something my mother or grandmother (the sleeves maybe?) would have worn. The only thing I don’t like about it is the color- it would completely wash me out. In a burgundy or dark brown background, I’d wear it! Our weather here in Pittsburgh has finally changed too- fall is finally here!!

  5. So jealous, Wendy! Enjoy each cool breeze. We are waiting with hopeful expectation for next week!

  6. Oh goodness no! This looks so extremely frumpy to me, there is nothing about it that I like. I find the color (or lack of) very dull, the sleeves remind me of the 1960’s when Julie sleeves were a thing, the bow at the neck and the unadorned waist are just not flattering at all. A huge “no” to this one. I’m looking forward to comments to see if anyone is going to have a way to make this work. And why would they have put those dark flats with this?

  7. NO! This dress screams MATRON! Yikes. I don’t like the style, color,, print or sleeves. I can’t imagine anyone looking good in that dress. The shoes look awful with the dress, but I would wear the shoes with jeans.

  8. I would look like a sack of potatoes in this dress, as does the mannequin. The shoes don’t help. The color and style are too heavy for the tone of this dress. I agree with a previous poster that the gray pants and black tee on the other mannequin are exactly what I’d take home!

  9. Where would I wear this – garden party, wedding guest?
It’s interesting that they styled it with a pair of flats. Usually you’d see this with sky-high heels.

The color and print isn’t so bad, I might stroll back into the racks and see if they had a blouse in that material as it might look nice under a soft colored sweater. I’ve got a lot of grey in my Winter wardrobe, both brown/grey and blue/grey and I might have a place for something like that go be a layer.

  10. No I would not wear this. The dress is too fussy for me. I am short and it is too long and would be overwhelming on me. Color and pattern would not be flattering on me.

  11. I like the dress. I think it has a very romantic look. I would not tie it at the neck to make it more relaxed.

  12. No, I would not wear it. I was never a fan of the pussy bow, and this fabric and style is a bit fussy for me. Pale yellows and beiges are not good on me either.

  13. I’m old enough to remember when this style was “in” back in the 60’s and 70’s. My mother and aunts wore these dresses so they seem old to me. Also, I’m too heavy for it to hang nicely. Passing on this one.

  14. I like these new flouncy florals I see in the stores but, unfortunately, they are not for me. I would look like the old schoolmarm in it. When I bought bow tie necks in the 90’s I always looked for ones that did not hit the throat but tied lower giving one a v-neck look. Thinner ties are important too.

  15. Is this a sign of designs to come? I haven’t seen the likes since the 1980’s. I would be interested to know if any of these dresses sell – I am a grandmother, but would rather have the jeans and black shirt to the left of the dress. Why did the stylists use bright black shoes instead of a more feminine heel or sandal? Just a few thoughts…

  16. My reaction to the dress was mixed until I saw the shoes they styled with it! What are they thinking?
The dress is a bit too sweet and buttoned up for me. It’s a bit too retro looking for me. I prefer to look more classic and modern.

  17. NO to the dress…color, print and style would look awful on me. I like more fashion forward classics. The pant look on the left I would definitely wear.

  18. Though I have worn blouses similar to such (tie neckline/full sleeve/same shoulder cap/fitted cuff) and currently have at least two skirts each with a flounce but a tad more fitted, I would pass on this dress. Reason; namely because I feel that the combination of both styles designed as a one piece, appear to be somewhat matronly (regardless that I am 73). Do like the loafers but definitely not with this dress. -Brenda-
P.S.: Re the Foxcroft draw. A big congrats to Glenda. Also enjoyed your week’s features on cardigans.

  19. A big no for the dress! Nothing about it appeals to me. I’ve never liked bow-tie necklines because I don’t like anything tight around my throat. The length looks awkward and I’m not a fan of sheer at the bottom. The first thing that caught my eye was the shoes. I don’t think the style or color is a good match for the dress.

  20. Oh, my goodness…what was the designer thinking? This wouldn’t be attractive on me and the overall look is ‘matronly’

  21. I’d wear this as a skirt and pair it with boots. But as a dress, this print and style looks very matronly and frumpy to me. Not flattering at all.

If this were a skirt, I’d pair it with a short black jacket and black boots. That would be striking.

As is … a definite no.

  22. I’m vacationing in France and the stores are full of Mid-length flouncy floral dresses. While it’s “a la mode”, this dress seems to miss the mark. Too fussy and too pale for me.

  23. Wow, no. Previous comments mentioned matronly and yup, thats the feel I get from it too. Dressy Mrs. Doubtfire.

  24. Nothing about the dress would work for me but it sure would look better with strappy heels for display.

  25. Hi Pam!
Happy Saturday. I love that you and Jennifer do this! For me this dress is a pass. The color and style would not be flattering. Not loving the shoe choice, lol!

  26. There is nothing about this dress that would make me stop to take a look. As others have noted, I think it looks frumpy, & the shoes do nothing to help the look.

  27. Although it seems weirdly out of season for those of us longing for autumn rather than thinking spring., I do like this dress , in fact, own it. I wear this dress with a black unstructured jacket, thin black belt, and dress black heels. Strong preference for a dress with jacket/cardigan for the longer line it gives rather than the chop of a skirt & blouse.

  28. Taste are very personal so all the comments were okay except for your Sunday comment which went way too far. Examine whether this is more about price & store, since you only singled out only one outfit as if other outfits were not wrinkled, given odd jewelry, and were unflattering. Thank heavens different styles & taste keeps the world humming, but being ungracious is off key.

  29. Jo, I am so sorry. I seem to have done what I ask readers not to do. I ask your forgiveness for being ungracious. You are right we all do have different tastes. Please forgive.
