News for Women of a Certain Age

Welcome to my first fall editions of News for Women of a Certain Age!  Grab a pumpkin spice latte or join me with an hibiscus tea and lets look over some recent news stories you may find of interest.  Remember, as always, when we are discussing any health related issues or advice do not do anything without consulting your doctor.  I did this just last week and learned a lot more from her and learned to stop doing a few things I was doing…bye, bye bananas!

Though it is still very hot where I live, I am so ready to eat mass quantities of soup!  I suspect there are many of you soup-lovers in this audience as well. So here is an article that caught my eye, called 17 Rich Soup Recipes That’ll Convert Soup Doubters to Soup Lovers!  Can’t wait to try a couple of these.

I smiled when I first saw this article, but I also work at a public research university and I know the research is to be considered and taken seriously, especially when it is Harvard.  I am not certain what I think of all of this, but would love to hear from you about THE END OF AGING.  Seriously?  No more?

I must be hungry!  Today’s post is mostly about food.  Maybe I should start a cooking blog?  Oh well, I was happy to see sweet potatoes on this list…because I do love them so.  These are the 10 anti-aging foods to support your 40s-and-beyond-body and since we aren’t aging any more, this anti-aging list seemed appropriate.

Shape Magazine ran an article about their 5 Fall Fashion Tips.   There is one I really disagree with…can you guess which one??

I guess we will end with food!  My husband and I are all about controlling inflammation from exercise to tumeric.  So, Bicycling Magazine grabbed my attention with 8 Inflammation Calming Foods that Might Help you Live Longer……not aging again!

Please comment on any or all of these articles and I hope you found something interesting here.  There is so much to read these days that I hope it helps for me to locate a few of these for you.  I promise next time to easy up on the food…anyone hungry? Below, you will find a slide show of OCTOBER SUPPLIES!

KEEP SMILING!

  1. Okay, Pam – what did you learn from your doctor that made you say “bye-bye bananas”? And my husband also has added tumeric to his daily supplements and has been delighted with the results – his joints are loving it!

  2. My sugar levels were elevated this round of blood tests. I told her I was eating a banana and watermelon every day for my sweet treats. For four months she only wants me eating berries!

  3. Well, I was surprised about the bare legs. Maybe who wrote it was from where I live!! But typically bare legs are not a fall style tip!

  4. Interesting note about the bananas. My doctor basically said the same thing. My potassium levels were low, so I started eating a banana every morning, then sugar level went up. After a couple months of a prescription potassium supplement, I found other foods to raise potassium. Enjoyed the anti-aging article, but I’ll never feel guilty about living longer! Have a great day!

  5. I tested the links and they were working. I apologize if you are experiencing problems. I will see what I can do.?

  6. Such a great post. Great links. Not a quick read though. Looking forward to getting home and enjoying the whole caboodle with a cup or glass of something.

  7. I agree about soup! Love it and can’t wait for soup weather, although I eat it all year. Never aging? Hmmm…it’s the natural order of things and I think we are already messing with too much. I’ve made peace with it and focus on being the best I can be right at the age I’m currently enjoying. Interesting fashion article…these are some very practical tips. I’m honestly over bare legs, though I do it. As we age they just don’t look like they did in our 20’s and 30’s, or even 40’s! I guess no big deal if you don’t wear dresses, but I still do. Bare legs in fall and winter just look off to me. You always find such interesting articles!!

  8. Soup article great! Ordered the fall pumpkin flag. Also just received the black via spago shoes from Nordstrom Rack and they fit beautifully for my trip to Spain and Portugal. Thanks for the tips. Your articles are always inspiring.

  9. Cannot eat, or bear the smell of bananas. Just like the way you, in USA, decorate with pumpkins for autumn/fall. As we’re in Spring, soup no longer being made in our home. Not warm enough in Tasmania for salads yet.

  10. No bare legs in fall in Canada – you’ll freeze! I do wear sandals until it’s really too cold to wear them. I so dislike socks and shoes.
I love soup and am always looking for new soup recipes!
