Fall Fashion Trends 2019: Black & Brown

I headed out to The Shops of La Cantera (my favorite mall) last Friday in search of Fall Fashion 2019 trends.  The first one I noticed immediately was the combination of black & brown.

Most of my favorite brands at Dillards were featuring black & brown…I tried on garments from Eileen Fisher and Ming Wang…the selection was vast I should probably confess now that black and brown is one of my all time favorite color combos…and put it with leopard, love it!  I have some beautiful scarves, ruanas, and tops in black and brown combinations which I have held on to over the years.  So, I almost squealed when I saw it predominately featured on the racks.

This tweed from Ming Wang was one of my favorites…and I would wear it with anything from black pants to jeans.  From Ming Wang, I also liked these two styles…(They really do make lovely clothes)!

Eileen Fisher’s nutmeg color is one I could easily wear all of the time. It is almost a burnt orange color with a little more brown in it…so beautiful. I really liked this long cardigan pictured first on the page, and the sweater top pictured below.  It is so soft and beautiful for work or casual styles.

I will wear black and brown a lot this year.  As it left the trends, I went away from it…so glad it is back and I will be too.  I have these selections and more in the slideshow below. Dillards has so many brands that offer all sizing in their lines.   With fall fashion stories ramping up, I have a lot to share with you later in the week, so stay tuned!  And if you stop by Dillards at The Shops of La Cantera, be sure to say I sent you!

How do you feel about wearing black and brown together?  What are you favorite color combos for fall?  Please share and I ask all of you to

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. That tweed jacket on you is wonderful! I hope you buy it and wear it often. This autumn color trend is a winner as far as I am concerned. You better buy many additions to your wardrobe now when “your” color is available. I understand why there are trends in color, gotta sell new stuff—from paint and sofas to pants and shirts—but it doesn’t serve the customer well. We would be happier if merchandisers and stylists helped customers find their “best” colors, the ones that best flatter their person and enliven their environment, and every season bring out new products and merchandise that take into account the major color-ways. Try to find a brown pillow or rug when all the home stores are filled with gray and more gray. Or a pastel pink blouse when all the shops are filled with electric yellow and lime green. Diversity in all things.

  2. There is so much diversity out there and I think it is up to us to learn and know our colors. Trends help us to stay youthful and current and can most often be found in our closets…this gives us new ways to style. I think if you go to Pantone for the Fall colors you will find trend colors for every woman. Then we can have fun styling. Thanks for being here. I am giving that tweed jacket some careful consideration!!

  3. Love that tweed jacket on you. Pam, I just have to say how healthy and happy you look. You radiate joy!

  4. These fall colors are so flattering on you. You could not go wrong with any of the styles you tried on. Happy Autumn – if it ever gets here!

  5. I’m a big fan of black and brown together, especially the rich, spicy browns that are on trend this fall. I wore so much brown in the past that I grew tired of it, but it’s been awhile now and I look forward to returning to it.

  6. I am so in love with brown and black combos; they honestly might just be my favorite. I can’t wait to wear this trend. Chico’s has a beautiful camel faux suede jacket under serious consideration by me right now. One of my favorite colors is amber/cognac, which mixes with every color on the planet and flatters almost everyone. I have a Brahmin purse in the color “pecan” which is unbelievably versatile and rich. Since, like you, I can shop my closet for these combos, and definitely have plenty of my default black, I’m going to be looking for more warm brown, which cycles in and out of stores and should be purchased when it is on trend. I would love a burnt or rusty cardigan. I have plenty of camel, and some chocolate, but amber has been in short supply the last few years. Please show us some olive options soon, as I think that is on trend also.

  7. Especially love the plaid jacket, but wouldn’t say no to any of the clothes shown today! Like you, I’ve always been a fan of black and brown worn together, and this rusty brown looks really good. Hope the jacket comes in petite.

  8. I love the jackets! Brown is not a go-to color for me. I have worn it in the past so I guess I can’t rule it out but it’s definitely not the first color I’m drawn to.

  9. There are so many beautiful colors on trend for fall that I am certain you can find colors you will love, Nancy.

  10. Yes the ‘tweed’ jacket for sure as it is definitely calling your name …. ☺. It looks so great on you and paired with dress trousers ‘n strappy heels IMO it can easily be taken up a notch, or two or three! (Also for casual styling; I’d be tempted to pair it with a pair of black jeans, a long sleeved turtle neck sweater, black flats or even runners and a lucious red handbag (like your nail polish) to add a punch of colour.) As for browns themselves; I particularly favour ‘camel’ and am happy to see their return. Also like the asymmetrical sweater, however would be more apt to purchase it for early Spring since our Fall Season is pretty cool and it would demand an overlay of a long version jacket (or a coat) which I prefer to avoid wearing (like the plague may I add) until they are an absolute necessity, due our long/cold winter.

  11. You should definitely get the tweed jacket. It looks great on you! I wasn’t a fan of black with brown, but the shades of brown in your slide show look great with the black. I am planning a fall shopping day early next month & will have to take a look.

  12. Browns, camel shades, beiges are definitely not my colours. That doesn’t mean I cannot appreciate them on other people. You look marvellous in all the garments you photographed. We’re going into Spring in Southern Hemisphere so will keep in mind the colours displayed in northern climes.

  13. still rocking that haircut & new slacks. 2 amazing updates. thank you for sharing your journey!
