How I Wear Cropped Denim for Summer

Since I began to wear shorts less and less, cropped pants have entered the picture more and more.  But, I am pretty particular about how I wear my cropped denim.  First of all, it must be a great fit with a slim leg line.  I just do not like (on me anyway) the look of the flared cropped pant.  I have a couple, but I rarely wear them out of the house.  This is my go-to Cropped Metro Legging from Soft Surroundings (you see them often in my slide shows) that I have worn for years and will continue to wear.  They fit great and I have never really considered them a true legging, but more so a great fit, slim pant.

This is a weekend, going out to run errands look for me.  I like to look nice and put together…and for summer, this color says Fun!  I found the sandals last weekend at Marshalls and I was super excited because they are Clarks.  Recently, I purchased my first Clark sandal in red and I have loved the comfort.  I literally looked at them that morning and thought I need to order a white pair and hours later they screamed at me from the shelf at Marshall’s…WHITE CLARK SANDALS HERE…In Your Size!!  So excited.

It is just a fact for many of us that aging takes it toll on everything…including the legs.  While they are getting better through work at the gym, I just do not see that some of the issues will change.  And I am hopelessly white!  I have skin-envy for all of you will natural dark, beautiful skin tones!  So jealous.  But, the cropped pant, if it has a great fit, works.  If it is baggy, then it becomes a frumpy fit very quickly.  I try my best to avoid that.  I want to feel confident in what I am wearing no matter how casual the moment is.

Thanks for stopping by!  Let me know if there are any topics you would like to see discussed here that perhaps you have missed.  Would love to know!

KEEP SMILING, EVERYONE!!

  1. Love this look on you – very summery and colorful! I too do NOT wear shorts! (Except at home when I’m walking or working around the house in hot weather.) With spider veins and age spots (sun spots -whatever they are called) marching up and down my legs, I prefer not to wear anything shorter than capri length! One of the few things I DO like about my legs are that capri, cropped pants, etc. make them look slim and my calves slender. (We take our victories where we can find them! 🙂 And you can dress them up or down – simple tee or tunic or a tank/shell and kimono, plus jewelry and choice of flip flops or sandals – and you have a many options!

  2. This is so pretty, love the colors in the top. Like you, I will only wear crops with a very slim/skinny leg. I have tried the flared and even wide leg crops and actually liked them, but never bought a pair. Seems a little too trendy. I have crops from Soft Surroundings and also J Jill. All have slim legs. I do wear shorts, but only Bermuda length – Talbots has what they have labeled “the perfect short” and it really is. I do have sun spots, but I continue to make peace with aging, which gets easier all the time, for some reason! This is a great you’re wearing!

  3. Over the past few years my shorts have gotten longer and longer and I now wear mostly knee length shorts. Loft has great rolled Bermuda shorts that are perfect for me. I have lots of spider veins, which while I try to look at as the price I paid for being blessed with 3 babies, I don’t need to have them in full view all the time! I only wear capris to work and when the weather turns beastly hot I go for dresses! I love the look of those denim capris and will definitely be checking them out at Soft Surroundings. Has anyone found anything similar at Chicos?

  4. As crops & capris tend to chop my short legs off, making me look frumpy & dumpy, I wear skorts that hit me at the knee when going out. At home, I wear fuller legged knee length shorts. They almost resemble what we called “culottes” back in the day. Your outfit looks lovely on you, & the straw tote is perfect for running errands.

  5. This is a great outfit! I do wear long shorts in the summer. I would like to find crop pants or capris that look good on me, but at 5″4″, I can never quite find the right length.
