More Fall Trends and My Actual Wish List for 2018

We are still talking Fall fashion trend styles and colors today. This is the final post to prepare you for all the great sales happening, including the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, early access begins tomorrow.  This outfit will easily go forward in style since the pants are similar to the Martini Olive Trend color for fall, and great basics are always in.

My jacket is my first July sales purchase…an Eileen Fisher piece which is so light weight I can wear it all year long.  My other suit jackets are much heavier, they are difficult to wear for work in summer months.  I found this at close to 60% off the original price in a Dillards’ sale and I love the fit and style.  It was a perfect piece for my South Texas wardrobe and I am certain will be worn often, warm or cold.  I have also worn it with denim for more casual style and love it.  I am certain whenever I do leave the professional world, that jeans and jacket will be a uniform style for me.

After all this talk about fall, here is my personal take on how I see the trends for 2018.  Of course, some recycle around, but with different designs and modern looks.  When I go to these sales this month, I will go with this in mind and, of course, my wish list which follows at the bottom.

Fall 2018 Trends – What I Will Do, and What I Won’t!

Trends I Like – And Will Look for a Modern Fit and Design – Yes, we have seen all of these before and Yes, there are a few new twists on these trends

Plaids

Tweeds

Animal Prints

Leather and Faux Leather Garments

Colorful Knits

Modest Designs

Trends I Don’t Like and Will Avoid

Excess 80s Designs

Neon Colors

Exaggerated Fringe

Layered Plastics

Skirt Suits (styles look like full body shapeless skirts!)

Trends I Will Approach with Great Caution

Foils – if done too much on a garment, they can look cheap and cheesy

Oversize Styles – I love oversize garments, but, honestly, they do not flatter my shape and often make me appear bigger than I am.  I have donated too many, and taken too many to consignment.  This year, I intend to pay closer attention to fit and shapes.  I must bid this trend farewell.  Most of the fashion sites I looked over for these posts featured many, many oversized garments for this coming year.

With These In Mind, Here is My Current Fall Fashion Wish List

A great fitting pair of Glen Plain Trousers or ankle length pants

A great fitting pair of dark blue pants

A great fitting pair of pants in Meerkat Color, or Almond Buff

Eileen Fisher’s Orange Trench – see in slide show below

Boyfriend Length, Plaid Menswear Jacket

Tops or sweaters in Ultra Violet, Nebulas Blue, Quetzal Green, Tofu, Russet Orange, Red Pear, Valiant Poppy

A fabulous Leopard Print handbag

Watching the shoes and boots for fall, and will report back to you later what I like

I hope this has been helpful.  We should always face the sales with information in our pocket as well as a mental inventory of what we already own.  I store all of this information with my five adjectives of what I desire my style to communicate in my head, and then I SHOP!  There are great sales happening and about to happen at Nordstrom, Macy’s, Amazon Prime, and Chicos ……………just to get you thinking!

What are your favorite and least favorite trends as you know them now?  Please let us know, and then as you plan, KEEP SMILING!

  1. This is VERY helpful! What in the world are “layered plastics”??!! Wow, that sounds really bad! : ) The one foil I’d buy in a split second is the one in your slideshow with the foil floral on the wine colored top. That’s really pretty, and understated enough. Your wish list is full of classics and that really appeals to me too. When I’m finished with this office business every day, I know I will also be in more casual pants with blazers too. Your style really resonates with me so things like your wish list make complete sense. This outfit you feature today I love. The pants are a gorgeous color and that Martini Olive color is something I’m drawn to when shopping. Lucky you finding that lightweight jacket. What is the fabric? It’s hard to wear blazers in the summer here too, and it’s not easy to find lightweight. You mentioned oversize and how often you see it. I know what you mean. I think if a person is reed thin they can pull that look off but I’m too short and not reed thin to even go there. Also “skirt suits” just conjures up a really bad image! I really like your flats in the pictures above. Really pretty with the pointy toe! I’ll be going back over this post because there is a lot of helpful information here!

  2. This is a really helpful post & I love your outfit. 80’s designs & neon colors are 2 things I definitely avoid!

  3. Great and helpful post Pam! I also love neutrals and have been wearing a lot of the olive colored pants… a great neutral. I also love your jacket. Your bag is beautiful and brings it all together and is very stylish! You look great!
I agree with you about the skirt suit with a big skirt…. unless you’re very tall and thin it’s not a flattering look !

  4. Martini olive looks like a great color for pants, topper, or skirt. Thank you for drawing my attention to it.
Amen, Sister, to the leopard bag!

  5. The pants are Eileen Fisher…I love this style so much I have it in five colors!
And the blouse was in a Chicos collection a couple of years ago. I often put the pants in my slideshows at the end of the post, I will do that tomorrow.

  6. I am loving the colors for fall as the darker blue and olive colors fit the capsule wardrobe I am working on. I am not an animal printer person. It is just off-putting for me, so I will avoid that. But, I agree, very light foiling could be lovely. Meerkat pants sound perfect. Love that color.

  7. It does look like such a great color, Barbara. I will report back when I locate them!

  8. I have thoroughly enjoyed your Fall Trends posts & found them most helpful. I didn’t realize layered plastics or plastic of any kind was a fashion thing, & I am quite sure won’t be participating in that trend. I would love to have slacks in the Martini Olive color. I think a plaid blazer might be fun & fit with my casual lifestyle. I bought a new bag last year & was never really thrill with it, so I might be on the lookout for a new one. I think something other than my usually black, perhaps an animal print. I will also pass on the excessive 80’s look & the neon colors. As they say, been there, done that, & definitely not interested in doing it again. Looking forward to your future posts on shoes. I need some new ones, & I know you have foot issues, too, so I can trust you when you say shoes are comfortable.

  9. I am so glad you have enjoyed the series, Becky! I am picky about shoes…I have to be. Hope to find some fun new ones.

  10. These posts have been so helpful, Pam! I love that olive color today and know it will always be a staple color in my wardrobe.

As with Karen, what are layered plastics? They sound dreadful!!!

  11. The photos from the runway shows looked dreadful…exactly what it says…many different designs of plastic clothing piled on top of each other. Made me sweat just to look at them!
