Fashion Over 50: A Word About My Outfits

I first want to thank all of you who participated in WOULD YOU WEAR IT over the weekend.  I loved reading all of the comments and learning more about you!  Now, I need to tell you a little more about me.   Whenever possible, I love to show you new items I have purchased or received for review, then it is much easier to tell you where I got something and give you a link in case you like it.However, when you blog as much as I do, it is just not possible to wear something new all of the time.  I try to re-style looks and mix it up as much as I can, but you will see items repeated often.  Today I am wearing all pieces I have owned for over 5 years…except the necklace, which I recently found at a consignment shop.  Since we have a very short winter in San Antonio, my winter clothing lasts longer and can be seen every year in some way.  I have worn this poncho with jeans, black leggings, and today with maroon knit pants.  I show you outfits that I really wear in my life, so there is nothing staged that my friends locally have not seen me in.

The next “challenge” is the fact I have gained weight in the past couple of years …yes,  I am going to write more about it later.  So let’s just get this out there….I currently have a closet full of several favorite things I cannot wear. Trasparency is important and I do not want to pretend to be something I am not…that is how we can grow and help one another.  I am going to rectify this situation, so I do not want to rid myself of those items…we will see them again…that is a promise I am making to myself.

My intention is to inspire you to look your best at the age and size you are right now.  While I am much smaller than when I began this journey 15 years ago, I still have not achieved the good health weight goal I desire to have.  But, taking my own advice, I dress every day to look my best and in such a way as to be confident in where I am at this moment. Now you know, why you see what you see.  Tomorrow I will wear a new Item I recently purchased on sale and tell you why I thought it is a good fit for my wardrobe.  Until then, I always find some pieces I think are fabulous and some of you might like to know about, which are posted below.

Thanks for being here and for understanding why I do not wear something new each time I post.

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. Pam,
I’ve been on the lookout for maroon/wine colored ponte knit pants like yours. Any suggestions?

  2. I know I have seen them, Linda. Let me do some research and I will get back to you…these are pretty old, but they are great pants!

  3. Pam, I enjoy your Blog and look forward to your ideas! I agree, look your best every day even though you are not where you want to be weight wise. I too battle the weight but try each day to present my best. Looking forward to what you have to inspire about weight!

  4. I have been reading your blog for years and you are so often much too hard on yourself! I think one of the most important things we can learn from fashion blogs is how to restyle the things we already own. Anyone can find ways to wear something new/different/gifted/etc. every day. Style and creativity comes from being resourceful with what you already have. This is what I look to learn from the blogs I read. Seriously! Thank you for all you do to inspire all of us, and for your willingness to put yourself out there. Just remember to be as kind to yourself as you are to all your readers. 🙂

  5. Pamela, I love your attitude—you are such an inspiration! You always look amazing regardless of weight fluctuations. When I first started following your blog I remember reading that we have to dress the body we have now, not the “someday” body we hope to have. I really took that to heart! Keep up the great work. We are all in this together!

  6. Thanks so much, Deborah. I appreciate the encouragement and I love going through this process with my blog friends.

  7. Good to remember, Melissa. I must listen to my own advice at times. You are so kind to write these words of encouragement for all of us!

  8. I’ve been reading your blog for several years and would never know you have gained weight. You always look great and carry yourself with confidence! For the past year or so I’ve really struggled with weight gain and I can certainly relate to your post today. I also have favorites I can’t part with and have hopes of wearing them again. Thanks so you much for being an inspiration. I get my daily boost when I stop by!

  9. Absolutely agree with Linda in everything she said. You, Ms. Pam, are much too hard on yourself. You’re a beautiful lady inside and out.
I must admit to getting ready for the day I struggled with my ever changing body and tiredness on my face. Ugggg! I’ll keep smiling and enjoying all that I’m blessed with.

    Thank you, kind lady.

  10. I agree with Melissa one hundred percent! Using what you have and making it look good is a talent and I learn so much from Pam.

  11. Thank you for sharing your journey through life with us. Weight gain is such an issue for so many of us and you are an inspiration to always look your best. It really elevates one’s confidence! Personally, dressing in the morning is my favorite daily task. I love to “play dress-up” and finding just the right necklace, scarf, jacket, vest, etc to make myself ready for the day with a smile on my face. Texture, color, pattern, shine! You have an army of followers routing for you!

  12. I liked this post as it was so real. Most of us at our age likely struggle with weight and it can be hard to not have a negative self-image. Listening to you, who has the trusted style sense we all depend on, talk about loving who you are right now, while at the same time being conscience of our health goals is empowering. Most of us also cannot afford to wear completely new outfits every week and affirming we can pair our pieces in different ways for a number of years while adding new articles of clothing and accessories as we are able helps me to feel OK with what I have. Thank you for being someone with whom we can relate.

  13. Thank you again for your inspiring honesty, and not just about your weight challenges – hey, don’t we all have that! – but also about the fact that you reuse articles of clothing. Reusing anything is good for the wallet and for the planet; you are to be congratulated. You make them interesting every time I like the last line in the comment above. We can all relate to you, which is what keeps us coming back. Thanks again.

  14. I’m so glad you don’t feature something new every day! I love to see how women style fabulous clothing and accessories they already have in their closet; it’s an inspiration to me. I’ll be reading with interest on how you will deal with weight loss struggles. I’ve resolved to try and be more active this year. Getting started is the struggle for me because I was one of those who used to be able to pretty much eat what I wanted without gaining much at all. Now I just look in the mirror and wonder what happened! I’ll be following other courageous souls such as yourself for encouragement.

  15. Pam, know we appreciate you just as you are. Weight does not determine you or any of us. An old saying, Be as good as you look.
You are very good, now as well as yesterday.

    Smiles

  16. If maroon leggings would work, Nordstrom carries a Zella legging in Maroon. Great reviews and very comfy.

  17. I really am not super down on myself, though all of the comments have been so sweet. I am just frustrated that I am still dealing with it. It does present some challenges…but I am working on it. Thanks Nancy.

  18. Good point, Kathy. Thank you for the great observations. I will be sharing what I am learning and hoping to one day conquer the beast!

  19. Thanks so much, Katie. I appreciate your words and observations. I want to be considered a blogger was real.

  20. Thanks, Rajean. I think we are all too hard on ourselves at times…I am so much better than I was at age 50. I think I have been comparing myself to others too much lately…and that is always a deadly game. Comparisons do nothing but hurt us. I know better.

  21. Thanks Beth…I have gained weight, but I do practice certain styling tips to appear thinner. I still have my confidence …not completely rattled yet. Thanks so much.

  22. I am very glad you remix your clothing. I get many ideas from you how to style my clothes I already have.
And my weight has been fluctuating for the last 3 years. I have been through some lifestyle changes. (We moved to a new town) and I gained 40 lbs. Then I lost 30 and gained it back. Now my doctor said I need to lose weight so her goes the yoyo again. I had great luck years ago on the South Beach diet. I lost 55 lbs in 3 1/2 months. This time, after 2 weeks , I have lost 7 lbs. I like it bc I can have a piece of chocolate at night. I reward myself by buying a piece of clothing or a pair of shoes for every 10 lbs I lose. It is great motivation for me. Good luck on your weight loss and let us know how it is going!

  23. You sound very similar to what I have been through, Marcia. I like the reward idea and think I will implement it now!

  24. I appreciate your honesty and frankness along with your sense of style. You are real and I can relate which keeps me coming back. Thank you!
