Fashion Over 50: Let The Shoes Do The Talking

Shoes can definitely talk!  At least, that is what my younger self believed when I would reach for a pair of fashionable heels.  I wore heels to work in my 20s and 30s almost every day. But, according to my podiatrist, that is what ultimately resulted in bunion surgery.  Now, thirty years later, I have so many feet issues that I have chosen to just stick with flats.  I do own one pair of comfortable heels that I will wear for special occasions where there is not a lot of walking invovled. This is why I love a patterned flat…they still do the talking!  Especially when wearing a predominately neutral outfit.  I love these Sam Edelman mules and was even surprised to have my husband say that he loves them.  He thought they were really cool.  Sam Edelman makes a comfortable shoe, but has many fun styles.  I like mules alot….and having my heels exposed is not a problem.  Something I do for my feet is to get a regular pedicure…even during colder weather.  For me, a pedicure is more of a comfort issue that a beauty issue.  Do I wear them to work?  Yes!  In my neck of the woods, we can do this most of the year since we do not have constant cold.  I like them with a flowy trouser and a white blouse and jacket…they do have a little “preppy-style” to them.  Don’t you think?

Thesse and others below are on sale right now …40% off.  Check them out for some fun!  Have you ever worn printed flats??

Oh, and one more thing, since we are talking about shoes, I thought you might like to see my Cinderella-pumpkin on my front porch…a reminder to enter the house with all slippers on!

KEEP SMILING!

  1. Those are very cool shoes! There are a few pairs featured that caught my eye, especially the very last ones! Currently I have no patterned flats, but I do have a DSW coupon and will have to see what I can find. I have walked right out of mules so those don’t work for me, but I’m adding more flats recently. Yours would add interest to any outfit!!

  2. I understand how mules don’t work for some, Karen. I actually have patterned ballet flats, pointed toe flats, and the smoking flat. I just love a patterned shoe! Thanks so much….

  3. How fun Pam, they are adorable! I enjoy patterned flats and they can really add to an outfit. I find as I get older I am sticking more to solid colors and letting the shoes, jewelry or handbag make the statement. Happy Sunday! Annette

  4. Those shoes are fabulous, Pam! Wow! They are so fashionable and fun! My feet are wide and hard to fit, so I am always on the look-out for new shoe sources!

  5. Love the shoes, Pam. Today I actually purchased a pair of Naturalizers in black velvet, complete with a low, silver glitter heel. I don’t think I would have ever purchased them had I not been following your really good Blog !! One is never too old !

  6. I am so excited for you, Eleni! I think black velvet mules would be gorgeous! Have fun in them…and thanks for telling us about them!

  7. Oh my goodness those shoes are so fun! Yes, let them do the talking for sure! I’m with you about pedicures even in cold weather, I definitely need them for comfort, makes all the difference.

  8. Love those shoes on you, Pam! You have great taste. I love Sam Edelman. I have the leopard print mules with the gold heel. I have a few flat mules and some with heels and find them a good casual shoe. I still wear heels to work, but they are much lower and I find myself buying block heels and flats more often.

  9. I wish I had purchased the leopard ones, Pat. I guess they will be on my Christmas list! Thanks for stopping by!

  10. I know it does for me…it is almost a health decision to do this for my feet. Keeps me walking and working out! Thanks Kellyann!

  11. These are great! I’ve never seen anything like them. I’m often relegated to the ugly shoes. I just had to buy shoes for a three day conference with a lot of walking. The only shoes that were remotely comfortable were the ugly shoes. Sigh…

  12. I understand how you feel, Janet. I encourage you to check out Rockport’s Total Motion line…cute and so comfortable. I think you will like their shoes. If you try them, let me know what you think!

  13. Thank you for all of your wonderful ideas!! However, none of the shoes you show are available in narrow widths! Maybe someone has a good source for narrow, stylish, reasonably priced shoes? The site, Zappos works pretty well because people leave reviews about width. Even there narrow styles are limited. Very frustrating!

  14. I will try to pay attention and when I see places that do, I will mention it. Thanks for calling my attention to it.
