The Magic a Great Jacket Can Perform!

During my 30s and 40s, I ceased to wear jackets. I had left the professional world to be a mom and considered them to be a part of my professional past.  At that time, I never would have worn a jacket with jeans.  I did not believe it to be functional in my “mom” world.

Enter my 50s; a desire to look better; and Stacy and Clinton!!  My daughter introduced me to WHAT NOT TO WEAR when she knew I was ready for a change.

I realize with many fashion bloggers these two are controversial…some don’t like their rules…some don’t like their directness…but all I know is, they changed me for the good.  I was one of those who needed water thrown in my face to see the mistakes I was making.

Friday night is Episode #2 of their final season…they are hanging up their magic wands after ten years.  One of my favorite rules learned from this show is the value of great fitting jackets.  The first time I purchased one following their rules (fit the shoulders, make sure it buttons, and look for great seaming) I was stunned to see I appeared to have lost ten pounds without shedding a calorie.

There are some fabulous jackets showcased by many retailers for fall, and you can check out Stacy and Clinton’s video about how to wear a leather jacket HERE.  I will miss them and forever be grateful for their help to turn this lost lady around!

  1. Nice outfit, Pam! I agree, jackets can be the magic ingredient in any wardrobe. Not only are the right jackets flattering, but they can make the simplest pieces look pulled together.

  2. I could not agree with your more Pam. I popped on very well cut jacket today and was pleasantly suprised to see the 6kg I have put on the last 12 months magically disappear!

Shoulder fit is crucial but I had to say that due to my bust size, not all my jackets button up and that is no longer one of my personal 'rules'

  3. I haven't watched that in so long…wow it's all ending soon…what an iconic show. I agree about a correct fitting jacket, which is why I rarely wear one…I need to loose some arm flab first. BTW…you look fabulous.

stopping by from Thursday's Favorite Things blog hop…have a great day.

  4. I completely agree. I am drawn to jackets myself, but have been guilty of not wearing them because I will look "too dressed" for the small town that I live in. I have since abandoned that line of thinking, thank goodness. It is one of the easiest ways to look put-together in a pinch. An essential for travelling.

  5. You're right – a well-cut jacket is "magic"! It adds polish to the simplest outfit. I used to keep one in my office (corporate days) in case of surprise meetings with honchos : >

  6. I love wearing very fitted jackets with a camisole underneath. Top it off with a great necklace and it is super sexy and young looking. I love jackets and wear them all the time. I just make sure they are not boxy in shape.

  7. Love Stacy and Clinton yet I think it's a good time for them to move on! The show has become a bit static.
My love for little jackets came through lucky magazine. I hung my jackets up after working in an insurance company for years and I just thought they were TOO CONSERVATIVE! Then came the mixing, the shrunken style and of course leather. They are a staple in my wardrobe and a blessing in the cold Northeast.
    Love your monochromatic look. xoxo

  8. Pam, I too have learned a lot from Stacy and Clinton. I wear a lot of casual jackets. They look great because I have learned to go for the proper fit!

  9. One of the most important things I learned from S&C (besides the jacket magic) is to belt my "sweet spot". Once you learn where the sweet spot is, your whole wardrobe looks better! If you don't want to wear a jacket, a cardigan can work the same magic as long as it fits well and you button the correct buttons!

  10. I love Clinton Kelly! Great post ( as always my sweet friend) thank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things hop. Big Hugs and Happy Monday! P.S. Epic fail on the way my clothes fit. My tops are all to loose because I hate the idea of them clinging to my muffin top. LOL
