Fashion Over 50: What I Found at the Museum

I mentioned HERE that I stopped by our McNay Art Institute last week to see a new exhibit.  I do enjoy each and every moment at the museum and I do recognize art is “in the eye of the beholder,” however, I was experiencing some difficulty in connecting with the current display…or perhaps connecting too much.  So, I found time to enjoy what women over 50 had worn that day to the presentation.

This exhibit is by a deceased local photographer who, sadly, died too young in a biking accident.  His name is Chuck Rameriz and he became known for “real life” photography…trash bags, dirty tables, contents of handbags, wilted flowers, old Christmas decor…..for the most part, it did not speak to me or depict something I would want to display in my own home.  But, the women around me were fabulous!

I loved the style of this woman.  She bought this blouse at Saks Fifth Avenue and her styling and detailing was gorgeous.  She is a docent of the museum and I enjoyed our conversation.  I enjoyed the pink & black print of the top on the woman below.  Some of these I wish I could have taken in the front, but it would have disturbed the tour…and I did not want to do that.

The young woman leading out tour had on a wonderful kimono.  Something I would wear…though she is obviously much younger.  I have looked for one like this that is more form fitting and not so overwhelming… and in this type of darker textile. Loved it!Now, here is the image I liked the best in the exhibit.  I could identify with his description of this broom…maybe I would hang it in my house!Tha’s me….weathered, but enduring, and always optimistic and colorful!!

What do you like to wear to the museum??

Keep Smiling!!

  1. When I first saw the handbag and the messy table, I thought, ‘that CAN’T be the artwork!!’ But it was. It makes me nervous to see things like that. Like I need to start cleaning up. Just definitely not a good feeling to get from artwork. Glad you included the fashions, that part was fun! And the broom? I might hang it too Pam. That is more abstract and not at all ‘messy’, it’s just unique enough. Maybe, but it stands more of a chance than the others would! It’s good to be open-minded and consider other takes on things. This one just didn’t speak to me! (But I did enjoy the fashions!)

  2. I haven’t had the chance to go to a top rate museum in a while. Travel is required but you have sparked my curiosity to make it happen.

  3. I agree Shari. I did not have time to visit the shop on this visit, but they do have amazing things for sale. Thanks.

  4. I laughed when I read your comment, Karen. Maybe that is why I had to look away from the table…we would never leave it that way! I love to people watch best of all!

  5. Pam – you are right about that wonderful kimono. You need to find one like that to feature on your blog!

  6. I am looking around…I should have asked her where she found her’s! Thanks for coming by Stormy!

  7. Pamela,
I will be visiting San Antonio for the first time November 2nd and would like advise on what type of clothing to bring. Your style is very similar to mine and am happy to have just found your blog.
PS- I am visiting a high school friend that I have not seen in 50 some years.

  8. It is anyone’s guess… we have had both extremes that time of year. But it should be 70-80s during the day, and 60s at night. But do check before you come. If I can help in any way, please let me know.
