Lisette L Montreal Pants: Great Style, Great Fit for Women Over 50

Over the past 8 years, the comment I read the most on this blog is how difficult it is for women to find pants they love.  I completely agree, but what is so wonderful is that there are great brands now to help us with this problem and LISETTE L MONTREAL is one of the best.
I first met this line while boutique shopping and was immediately impressed with the quality and fit of the pants, so when they contacted me to try a couple of styles I was game! And, I love them...this GRADIENT ANKLE PANT is fun, fits well, and is very cool in summer heat.  You will most likely need to go a size up in these pants for a good fit...remember it is not about the number in the label, it is about the fit.

This line is high quality and I feel very confident in the pants.  I have another pair to style soon!

THIS PANT is on sale!  Check them out, then......

Keep Smiling!

Fashion Over 50: Summer Sunday Style Sweet Spot with Funky Style

Wow...this sun is really beating down on South Texas now with heat indexes reaching 111 all week...but I do have some friends who are determined to love what they wear despite the oppressive heat.  Meet Susan...a fun, dynamic woman who describes this look as her funky style....
Susan is not afraid to stand out in a room...in fact, prefers it and loves to rock her petite frame with prints and accessories which are bold and confident. She wore this on a day she was to attend an event where she wanted to be noticed and begin to develop some new business contacts.

Susan knows the importance of wearing clothing which fits her body well...fits, but is not too tight.

She also balances her "funky style" meaning she is confident, bold and fun; but not clownish and too over the stop.

She wants to be respected for her intelligence and that is why the balance is necessary.

I would call her style creative and fun, more than funky.  It is a style I love and believes hits the sweet spot.  I have selected some fun garments below for your consideration.

Do you like to wear funky pieces?  How do you keep it balanced?

Thank you so much for dropping by and as always....

Keep Smiling!

5 Reasons I Smiled This Week

I know it is obvious...but I try to always look for the silver lining.  I grew up in a negative household and do everything I can to live a more positive life...life's too short not to.  So, in an effort to inspire you to always look for something to smile about, here is what made me smile this week......

1.  THE TREADMILL... For about six weeks, I have stopped for many reasons, getting up early to work on the treadmill...on the days I do not have strength training class.  This week, I started back on the treadmill!!  The results make me smile.

2.  HELPING MY SON...My youngest has finished college and been hired for a wonderful position at a solid, excellent company located near us!  It's been fun to discuss his future apartment and look at decorating and floor plans with him and even to discuss a new work wardrobe. I am so happy for him!

3.  A NOMINATION...As most of you know, I am editor for SAN ANTONIO WOMAN MAGAZINE and we have been nominated for MAGAZINE OF THE YEAR by the San Antonio Fashion Awards for our fashion and beauty section!  I have an amazing fashion editor and art director who share this nomination!

4.  SALE SHOPPING....I stopped in Talbot's just to look over their Red Hangar Sale, and found some incredible pieces for fall and winter! I am so excited and now just need to be patient for the cool breezes to blow!

5.  NEW WEBSITE ON THE HORIZON...I have seen the specs of my new, re-design for this blog and I am super excited.  It is taking awhile because I have so much to transfer.  We are doing our best not to have any issues with it, but if you notice you do not receive your post updates through email subscription or Bloglovin' then please let me know.  I hope you will see it very soon and appreciate the patience.  But, when I saw it, I smiled very big!!

What is making you smile today?????  Even if it is not the best day, dig deep and look for the little things....I believe there is always something!

Keep Smiling!

Why Reinvention Should Begin On the Outside

"That in a nutshell, is what the French understand about clothing: that it has the power to transform us, to entertain us, to change our self-images, and occasionally to change our lives."  - Tish Jett

This statement is hidden within Tish Jett's excellent book, but for me it jumped off the page since I have lived it and found it to be true.  I think many women delay a reinvention or makeover because they feel so down on the inside and lack direction.  I know I did.

Some believe it is "superficial" to begin a change on the outside and do not understand how it can lead to an overall change within. But it can.  Just like the French women Tish has come to know and love while living in France, I discovered beginning my exterior change opened up joy and new direction for a completely reinvented woman over 50.  As I felt better about myself and began to smile at the mirror again, I had the courage to go forward and eventually follow a new career.  As my confidence grew, I believed I could (and can) do anything.  I never think of myself as too old, past my prime, not relevant...instead, I believe any organization is smart to tap into my experience and maturity.

I do want to say, though, it takes time to get to where you want to be...there is no magic wand here.  I have chiseled away and refined my wardrobe as an artist would a painting.  It has taken time for me to look inside the closet and say to the whole, "Yes, this is me!"

For many reasons, I look forward to rising in the mornings and deciding what I will wear for the day.  It is entertaining and joyful and has helped to fashion me into the woman I am today.  It is not just that clothes have power....it is that the right clothes have power.  The clothes fitting who I am and exuding confidence.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Thoughts?  I do highly recommend Tish's book  FOUND HERE.

Keep Smiling, Everyone!

Fashion Over 50: Summer Sunday Style Sweet Spot with Bold Colors

Hope all of you are enjoying your summer as it holds it's warm grip on many of us!  Last week, some of us from the office headed out to a large networking lunch here in San Antonio.  We have a very active chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and it was time for the once a month gathering.  I was struck by how great Cindy (blue) and Susan (pink) looked in their bold colors.
San Antonio ladies are not afraid of bold colors...the city proudly displays our Hispanic heritage in art and fashion just about every where you go.  The colors are perfect for refreshing summer wear and you could wear dresses like this for just about any event.
Over 60, Cindy wears heels better than just about anyone I know.  She is comfortable in them and I watch her literally run all day long moving quickly back and forth to sales meetings.  I admit...I am a bit jealous!

Both wore simple, light jewelry ...and I thought really hit their style sweet spot!

I found several bold, fun dresses to show you..just click through the slide show below!

How do you feel about color this bright??

Keep Smiling, Everyone!

Fashion Over 50: First Friday Style Tip for August

Happy First Friday and welcome to my First Friday Style Tip for women over 50.  This month I am joined by my friend and super stylish blogger, Jennifer Connolly of A WELL STYLED LIFE.
So, here we are in August..my least favorite month of the year.  By the time a South Texas resident gets to August, we are hot and tired and ready for a new season, which really will not show itself for another 8 weeks!  So, my style tip for the month is to think of ways you can blend a little of fall with a little bit of summer...since August is the cusp.  I decided to blend my white summer pants with leopard which I always wear more in cooler months.  Sometimes I forget how great darker colors look with white pants.

If you are longing for fall, as I am, place a little fall on top of your white pants or skirts and blend the two worlds.  I also love a deep purple, emerald green, slate gray or royal blue with white pants rather than pastels.   AND, with all the sales going on, it is also a great time to get a pair of white pants if you do not have them...I know some women wear them all year long, but I mostly select them for spring and summer.  No, I do not follow old "wearing white rules!"

How do you feel about August...are you a fan?  What do you like to wear this month?  Tell us and then go over to  JENNIFER'S PAGE and see what her tip is for the month.

Keep Smiling!

Sponsored: Ensure "Can Do" People...Healthy, Inspirational, and Enter for $1000 a Month Prize

I'm a sponsored blog partner for Ensure, but all opinions contained in this post are my own.

I am excited to join the Ensure CAN DO  People campaign, and tell my story of how I turned my personal "can-nots" to can-dos, and to bring you an opportunity to win a contest with a prize you will love....$1000 a  month for 12 months...said you would love it!

My reinvention began on the outside at age 50, and it would take a couple of years before I began to work on my insides.  My fifties were dedicated to learning all I could about good health. At age 59, I was diagnosed with early stages of osteoporosis and it was abundantly clear that I needed to join a gym…for the first time in my life!
I do not recommend waiting that long for anyone, but I also say it is never too late to turn your health around.  That was when I began strength training to build muscle strength.  Here is what I have learned about muscle health:

Muscle Health
·         Loss of strength and energy may be tied to a sign of aging that we don’t typically discuss: your muscles
·         Muscles can control how tired or energized you feel
·         Starting at age 40, you can start to lose up to 8% of muscle mass per decade. This loss translates to up to 25% of your body’s muscle by 70 years old
·         Your muscles usually account for 50% to 60% of your body weight

Muscles play a role in your body’s movement, balance and posture, as well as your metabolism and even facial structure
·         With the right nutrition and exercise, you can prevent or even reverse muscle loss that you may experience as a natural result of aging or a health setback.

Not only has my bone strength improved, but also my energy levels and flexibility.  My trainer told me in order to get the most out of my workout, I needed to follow up each time with a good protein-packed drink.

This is where Ensure High Protein Nutrition Shake is perfect.  It is easy to grab one out of the refrigerator after a work out, and run to get ready for whatever the day holds.   It has 16 grams of protein to support muscles and to help keep hunger at bay throughout my morning ; 23 essential vitamins and minerals; only 4 grams of sugar and 2 grams of fat; and 160 nutritious calories.  While it does come in vanilla and chocolate, I like vanilla the best.  Also, it is important to remember that Ensure is the #1 doctor recommended nutritional drink.

I feel so much better since my strength has increased and I  CAN DO so many things for myself instead of needing help to lift certain items or to walk up long flights of stairs.  The training part is difficult and does require perseverance and determination.  The Ensure Part?  Very easy and enjoyable.  Try it.

Now, watch a couple of inspirational grandparents who have also learned what they CAN DO later in life and make sure you enter the amazing ENSURE SWEEPSTAKES …someone is going to win $1000 a month for one year to fund their activities! Who wouldn’t want that?

What's Your Perfect Wardrobe for a Woman Over 50?

Do you know what makes up your perfect wardrobe?  Fashion designer and icon, Coco Chanel described the perfect wardrobe as one with black & white pieces; good shoes; plenty of dresses; polish; simplicity; and well fitting clothes.  Do you agree/

For me, the perfect wardrobe does one thing...Instills Confidence!  If you feel confident, strong, and joyful in your clothing, then perhaps your wardrobe is perfect.  I get to my confident point when  my wardrobe says I am intelligent, creative, approachable, current and strong.  I know I say it a lot, but for me it is about the messages and then I feel confident and know I look my best.

So, what is the perfect wardrobe for you?  What does it look like?

Please join in and share your thoughts...then...

Keep Smiling!!
