Fashion Over 50: Lessons From Spring

I don’t often wear pastel colors, but this light blue was calling to me the other day from the racks at MARSHALLS.  I wore it for a full day of errand running and was surprised at how many favorable comments I received that day.  There is something uplifting about light and breezy….in fact our fashion over 50 can really learn lessons from spring.

I have been allowing this “winter” of my life to tug at my joy a lot lately.  After my sinus surgery in January, I have experienced a set back of sorts.  The impacted sinus infection was on the left side of my face and had begun to eat at the eye socket bone.  It was a four hour surgery so the infection clogged in my head had been there for some time.  It appears the eye muscles have been weakened and I am experiencing significant problems with my left eye.  I am about to get the second lens in my glasses in 8 weeks.  My right eye is near perfect…my left eye getting worse.  Sigh…so please no ugly emails about typos.  You can imagine for a magazine editor and blogger that this could be a little frustrating.

But, two things happened this week.  First, I went to see Finding Neverland and was reminded of the importance of inspiration and imagination for a writer.  You can read my full review HERE.
Then I wore this outfit into a day full of beautiful cool spring air (a front had blown out the humidity the day before); and people approached me to talk while out and about.  I was rejuvenated and refreshed.

The spring breezes blew away the “winter” doldrums.  I do not want to allow fear, worry or frustration to steal my joy and take away the days gifted to me.  So, still with a wonky left eye…I choose to wear joy, a smile, and a few spring colors!

Dealing with any of your own winter doldrums?  Please feel free to share and then….

Keep Smiling!

  1. When I opened up the blog your photo struck me. That soft blue really showcases your hair color and complexion. You look vibrant, self assured and ready to embrace the season. The little bit of dark pattern ties everything together. Enjoy your posts.

  2. You're an inspiration. If you asked me my definition of grace it would be to be able to Keep Smiling through adversity as you are doing.

  3. So sorry to hear about your eye problems. I had eye cancer in my left eye in my 40's and was treated for it, but have lost all but peripheral vision in that eye. My right eye was perfect until the last few years (63 now) and did compensate for the lost vision, but now I need to wear stronger glasses for reading and driving. I guess my point is you do get used to imperfect vision and for me, I am so grateful that I did not lose my eye – older treatments for eye cancer would have been to remove the eye. Wishing you all the best.

  4. You present such a positive persona on your blog that I'd never guess you were having severe problems with your eye. I admire your uplifting outlook which has been an inspiration to me and I'm sure countless other women! I had major surgery in February and still dealing with a bit of tiredness and lack of energy. Thank you for sharing and wishing you improved well-being, Pam!! Love the outfit, too!

  5. Thanks so much Beth! I know it takes time…it took me awhile to get back in the gym after the January surgery. But I did and I am glad I did. I hope your energy returns soon. Thanks for being here and for the encouragment!

  6. That spring blue is so fresh looking and pretty. I see why you got compliments! I'm so sorry you're struggling with this eye problem. I know it must be terrifying. You are the picture of grace under fire my friend, and inspiring. Hang in there

  7. Love the light blue top and your styling–today and every day. You continue to shine a bright light on stylish wear for our more mature bodies–despite your current travails. Great to see you smiling and modeling clothes I can see myself wearing.

  8. I am so sorry that you are experiencing eye problems. As an avid reader myself, I think more about how precious my eyesight is as I age. You are doing a great job of keeping your chin up. Your new top is lovely.

  9. That is terrible about your eye/sinus infection. I, too, have terrible sinus problems, but so far no eye involvement. Hope things improve. I do so enjoy your blog—I'm a Texas gal too.
