Fashion Over 50: How to Make A Style Statement

I hope many of you have enjoyed a three day weekend as much as I have.  Now, refreshed and smiling, I am ready to talk style statements for women over 50 from the outside to the inside.  This week is more about casual, comfy and cool.

As you know, I am a fan of column dressing.  So, in order to have a wardrobe that is creative and confident, I have many toppers, dusters, and long jackets which add a stylish statement to my looks.  Recently, I have become a huge fan of designer Marla Wynne’s toppers.  She can be found on HSN HERE..  I love this one with a touch of dusty rose, black, gray and cream.  Find this DUSTER HERE.  A casual wardrobe which features statement toppers and fun accessories works well for me.  I also just purchased on sale, the JJill Capri Leggings.  I wore my old ones until they were unwearable and it was time for replacements.

There are so many great accessories…and it helps to mix up column dressing so that it appears we have a huge wardrobe…when that may not be the case.

But, I also want to discuss what I believe it our best accessory….

When I took these pictures, it was raining.  But, I chose to smile and enjoy the process.  Smiling…positive attitudes…enjoyment…are all choices.  In the past month, it seems I have been surrounded by angry people of all kinds. Some days the world just seems angrier.

Anger produces a toxic atmosphere which not only spoils your own life, but that of the lives around you.  Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, ” For every minute you are angry, you lose sixty seconds of happiness.”   No matter what is happening, anger is a choice.

I personally believe women who display great style which is captivating and attractive are those who are joyful and wear a smile as their best accessory.  You want to be near them.  Those who are angry, you want to run away from.

Smiles plus beautifully designed pieces…those are great statements for the over 50 woman to make!

Keep Smiling, Everyone!

  1. Life is just too short! I have worked at having this attitude so that I enjoy the life I have. The only time I struggle is when there is an overload of anger around me…but I still choose to SMILE. Thanks Jennifer.

  2. Yes indeed life is to short to be angry. In the big picture it doesn't matter. Love your attitude and positive spirit. Love the outfit. Happy Memorial weekend everyone.

  3. LOVE this outfit! It looks elegant yet, oh so comfortable — thanks for the inspiration. I have definitely taken up the column dressing concept at your recommendation and am so grateful for the ideas. Thanks for all your help!

  4. I've been following Marla Wynne for a few years. (I was supposed to go into NYC to interview her at her studio but somehow that fell apart.) I love her sense of style, and you look beautiful in it! Love that duster, beautiful Pam!
