Fashion over 50: Love My Pencil Skirts

Warmer weather is here to stay in South Texas, so this over 50 fashion lover is ready to mix things up a bit.  One way is to take some of the tunics I have worn with pants and now wear them with my pencil skirts.

I am a huge fan of pencil skirts.

I own knit pencil skirts in black, gray, red, olive, and denim. Most of them are from JJill.

I find them to flatter any size of woman and to be very comfortable and easy.

And my legs stay cool!  Yes, I need some self tanner, but I will wear the pencil skirts often to work this summer.

One of my favorite summer necklaces and I made it!  I found the green coral in a garage sale a few years ago for fifty centers.  I added a sea shell from one of our Texas beaches...we had been there for a family vacation.  So with my husbands drill...I made a necklace.  Pretty good for fifty cents.
Another fun Marshalls Surprise!  My Kate Spade purse was a discovery a couple of years ago!

In need of pencil skirts?  Just look here and see what you think...they really are magic with how they will flatter a look!

Keep Smiling!

Clorox 2 Celebrates Spring with Vibrant Color & A Giveaway

A Sponsored Post

Life at the Lutrell home has been busy so far this spring!  Of course, we planted flowers in the backyard...
And we have been celebrating San Antonio's traditional Fiesta wearing our most colorful clothing to outdoor events.
Add these to playing with grandchildren and you get many opportunities for a stained spring wardrobe!
I have been a fan of CLOROX 2 STAIN REMOVER AND COLOR BOOSTER for years now...so I know it gets rid of stains and keeps colors bright! Recently, Clorox 2® Stain Remover & Color Booster helped me with this top.  I got a ketchup stain on it at one of the Fiesta events. Thank goodness, the blouse was saved.

All I had to do was pre-treat the stain, and then add it to my regular wash.  I always add CLOROX 2 STAIN REMOVER & COLOR BOOSTER to boost the color on the garments and so they stay bright for longer.   By pre-treating the stain, I make sure it gets it out and it works in my high efficiency washer with ease.
I confess I have had to save this blouse more than once...it attracts stains.  Clorox 2® Stain Remover & Color Booster removes four times more stains than detergent alone and also handles blueberry, mustard, coffee and gravy.

I also pre-treated my gardening clothes which were covered in dirt after a morning of potting plants. You can go HERE to learn more tips for caring for your spring clothing.
Now, here is my next spring challenge.  I am going to fly to see these two...my precious grandsons and DIRT is their middle name.  They love to dig in it, make mud of it, and roll in it.  But, I know all will be well...because I got their mom her own bottle of Clorox 2® Stain Remover & Color Booster.   Hopefully, it will not be empty when I get there.  Spring is more fun with products we can trust to save our favorite garments!

Now, the wonderful people at Clorox 2 have an amazing giveaway for you!  Just follow the Rafflecopter instructions below and you could be the winner of

One $100 gift card to Home Depot
One Clorox 2 Stain Remover Pen
One Clorox 2 Stain Remover Liquid

Awesome!  The winner will be selected in one week.

Classy and Chic Fashion Over 50 Inspiration...In A Surprising Place

Yesterday, we discussed the importance of mothers who teach children to look their best when they leave the house.  This young lady's mother must have done it right.  She works in my office and always looks so chic and stylish at her 23 years of age!  Her wardrobe says she is strong and intelligent...exactly right since she began her own business last year and is doing very well with it.

Britney has inspired me before, but I really love this outfit the most.  Her beautiful, knit tie-in-the-front olive pants are gorgeous.  She found them at express.

I love the simple styling with the knit tank, jacket and tan wedges.  The relaxed jacket has a curved hemline with pockets.

It is rare that one so young inspires what I want to wear, but I would love to put together something similar.  So now I am in search for similar pants...at a store which fits my size!

Where have your gained inspiration lately?

Family Legacy: Is Dressing Nice A Part of It?

I am smiling for many reasons, but mostly because I just drove my new car...well, it is a used car, but new to me!  For many reasons it was time to make this move!
I did what I often do on a weekend.  I put on a column of black with a colorful top over it; fun jewelry and carefully selected shoes! This top is from a local boutique; the leggings are JJill; the black V-neck tank is Chicos; and my beautiful cinnamon colored beads were from a re-sale shop.  With so many colors in this top, I can go many directions.
It's good I was comfortable because the whole process took several hours..trading in a car, finding the car, buying the car! But we were very patient.  My husband and son were with me.
After our salesman, Freeman, went over the final instructions of how everything works, we were saying good bye and about to drive off the lot when he said, "I just have to tell you how much I appreciate the way you look.  I was always taught by my mother to dress nice and it makes a difference.  Your whole family looks so nice."

Freeman's mother, Johnnie Mae, grew up in Detroit and only had a fifth grade education, but he said, she always dressed up when she went out for any occasion.  "She taught us that people will treat you with respect when you look nice," he said.  "It has stuck with me to this day and I always go out looking my best. I just wanted you to know you are doing the right thing to come in here looking so nice."

Wow, it was great to get a car, but I drove home feeling so encouraged because of Freeman's words!

No matter the occasion, it is worth it to take time to look your best!

Were you taught to look nice growing up...no matter where you were going!

Keep Smiling, Everyone!

Fashion over 50: How to Love Your Legs!

Welcome to a fun collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40.  We desire for all of us… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day.  After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning.  But, we both know just how transformative style can be, and hope to encourage you right here each week.  We want to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence

Recently, Jennifer and I began a series to address some of the aging body parts which many of us over 50 tend to think negatively about.   We began with THE MID-SECTION HERE and then discussed DRESSING THE ARMS HERE.  Today we are moving on and discussing how we love our over 50 legs!

I confess to not being the biggest fan...of dresses and skirts. I do wear them, but, those of you who read this blog often know I am usually clothed in pants.  The simple reason is...I love pants...not because I don't like my legs!   Pants just seem to be a big part of my personal style!   However, during the summer, I wear dresses more than any other time....heat is the main reason for that.  My legs have some of the usual aging issues, but really I am very confident of how they look.  So, here are some of the fun ways I handle my over 50 legs!

1.  I care for them!  I usually  have an exfoliate in the shower, and I use lotion every day.  I also get regular pedicures...which come with some treatment to the calves as well.  Even though, some of us have less hair and lighter hair on the legs, shaving is a great way to exfoliate and keep your legs healthy and shiny.

2.  Within reason, I love fun hose, like the polka dots above.  The sheer patterns are not too overwhelming and can be a nice accessory to an outfit.  In fact, sheer colored hose are my favorites and I always have some black and blue on hand.  I especially like hose for the dressier times...such as a wedding or a banquet.

3. But, for the really warm temperatures or more casual skirts and dresses I like a nice self tanner.  I try to begin in early spring to keep my legs covered with it.  My favorites are the ones in the slide show below from Soft Surroundings.  I have used these and I love the way they work...the mitt which comes along with the first two is awesome!  I highly recommend either of them.

One of my personal wardrobe goals the last two years has been to add more dresses and skirts to my wardrobe. It is slowly happening.  I also need a new pair of walking shorts. But for now,  I must to get the self tanner going..quick!

Let me know if you are a fan of dresses and skirts...or predominately a pant fan like me!

Then go check out what JENNIFER OF A WELL STYLED LIFE has to say about the subject...

Have a great start to a new week!

Fashion Over 50 Style Tip: Easy for Spring

It has been fun to share with you some of the local traditions with Fiesta this week...I promise to share anything new and unique I see as festivities continue.  Now for a spring style tip...so easy to remember for us fashion over 50 ladies!

Simply take a spring print, like this navy floral, and put the tank or top under a white jacket.  I usually wear this with jeans, but today, I have it on atop a pair of chambray pants I found at a local boutique.

I like this print under the white jacket and it is perfect for my magazine job.

The silver flats are by Anne Klein and I purchased them last year at Stein Mart.

The floral top is from DressBarn and the white tuxedo-style jacket is from Chicos, last year.  A jacket with great fit and design will literally shave away pounds!
Now, here are some styles for your consideration along these same style lines.  I hope this tip gave you ideas and inspiration!

Happy Weekend!

The Softer, Neutral Side of Fiesta, Artisan Fashions

Fiesta, bohemian, ethnic, artisan fashions do not always have to be over-the-top colorful styles.  There are many who select the more neutral side.
This year I am loving this beautiful jacket from Chicos...in fact, the top, pants and one necklace are all from Chicos.  It gives me a softer way to enjoy the celebrations.

The detailing on this jacket is gorgeous.

I doubled up two necklaces and added a small touch of turquoise with the accessories.

I love all the color, but some days during Fiesta it is nice to wear a softer statement!

I hope you have enjoyed seeing a bit of this celebration and discussing a different type of fashion.  If I see some show stopping fashion during the next two weeks, I will make sure I get a picture for you to see!  Viva Fiesta!

Fashion Over 50: Color and Cascarones!

Just in case you may not know, a cascarone is a colored egg, filled with confetti, and closed at the broken end with colored tissue paper.  Then you take them and go smash them on the tops of your favorite heads...this is why so many walk around Fiesta with confetti in their hair.  You just never know when you will end up with a smashed cascarone on top!

Speaking of tops, I like to wear this one during Fiesta because the print reminds me of confetti.

I purchased it a few years ago at Stein Mart to wear to a Fiesta barbecue.  Colorful prints are everywhere during Fiesta...

I love to pop it with this Italian leather bright orange handbag...also a purchase for years back at Marshalls.

There are some beautiful spring pieces on sale right now...top retailers...excellent prices for the quality...just scroll through here...

I actually am very calm with my color and prints during Fiesta when compared to many. Wearing confetti in my hair is about the craziest I get!   Take a look at some of these fashions:

Remember...this week is all about Fiesta Style...just like we see in these coasters.  San Antonio does Fiesta from the runways to our homes!

Fashion Over 50 and a Color Celebration

If you love color, you will love Fiesta.  It is everywhere during the next two weeks and locally, we cannot be brighter or bolder.  That is one of the reasons I purchased this Eileen Fisher raspberry tunic a few years back from a sale rack at Dillards.
I can attend just about any outdoor festival or party in this type of look.  The tunic is atop SOFT SURROUNDINGS WHITE CAPRI LEGGINGS
I layered two long necklaces here and, of course, wore the one with The Alamo on top!  My fiesta bag was actually purchased recently in my favorite hardware store, SUNSET RIDGE HOME AND HARDWARE...it is more of a boutique than a hardware store.  I love to buy gifts there.  They had a wonderful display of top quality beautiful handbags just for Fiesta time!

But, my eye went to this one!  And I really love the bag when I wear simple or neutral outfits.

This is also a perfect look for going to eat Mexican food...we do a lot of that in and out of Fiesta time!

How to you feel about wearing bright colors?  Do you do this often or would you only wear them for special events?

Grab a margarita and let's talk!

Viva Fiesta!

Psst... check Dillards Sales Tab...I can always find Eileen Fisher on sale there!
