Hit Your Style Sweet Spot Over 50: 2017 Fashion Trends, Part 2

Welcome to a fun collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40.  We desire for all of us… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day.  After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning.  But, we both know just how transformative style can be, and hope to encourage you right here each week.  We want to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence.

Last week, we began a month long discussion about 2017 fashion trends for women over 50.  I discussed artisan designs and Jennifer showed us the beautiful mules now available. Find both HERE.

Today, we will show you two more trends. We do this  in an effort to remain current and have some fun with fashion.

Like this one….fun, funky pants!  This one began last year and continues forward….with flowy, ankle-length, sporty, slim large, fitted, culottes…anything goes, pants. There are many fun designs and options in this trend.  Since I am seen in predominantly pants over dresses, I really like options to mix up my styles in a creative, and flattering way.  These are from a brand called IC Collection which in my world is featured at Dillard’s and I found these in one of my favorite local boutiques, Andie & Barbara.  The sequined tank is Soft Surroundings; the knit jacket is JJill; and the Sam Edelman Ballet Flats were found at DSW.  (The poor dead fern did not make it through the last freeze!)

Tips:
1. Use your favorite retailer’s three way mirror and make sure the style is flattering to your figure.  They may be fun, but they need to fit well.
2. Think of ways you will wear them.  You do not want to be deflated when they come home with you and there is nothing in your closet which goes with the pant.  Pinterest and blogs are there to help get your inspiration soaring.
3.  Be courageous about wearing them in all situations, but also be confident.  Always step out of the house with confidence and a smile

Ok, I never write the word funky without thinking about Steve Martin when he sang FUNKY TUK on Saturday Night Life…many, many years ago!  IT still makes me laugh! Do you remember it?  I am certain YouTube could help us out!  And if you want to see more, funky pant options just look below.  Also, for another 2017 trend, let’s check out JENNIFER OF A WELL STYLED LIFE!

Keep Smiling!

  1. Trends are tricky…they do not work for all of us. I am really glad I tried these on..I like them for an occasional fun pant and they go with several tops I have. I almost did not try them on, but the boutique owner encouraged me and she was right…I like them. Thanks for stopping by Maggie!

  2. I actually really like those pants on you. I would have bought those when I was younger, but I think I would struggle now with what to wear with them. It would be fun though to try those on in a store. Sometimes it's good to get out of our comfort zones and try something totally different.

  3. Thanks, Yvonne. I also live in a warmer climate, and these pants are very cool and light. They are for fun moments…not every day for me. It is fun to occasionally step out!

  4. I have a few pair of pants like that and love them. Because most of them are full, I wear them with a slightly fitted tip that is not too long. That way I don't look larger than I really am. Yours look so great on you, Pam. Oh to be tall!

  5. Such fun pants, Pam! You look fantastic! I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical last year about all the ankle length and shorter flared pants, but now I love them. I guess it shows that sometimes we have to get used to a new look and keep an open mind. 🙂

  6. I was skeptical at first as well. These are my fun, once-in-awhile pants…but I would wear the think,cigarette-style ankle pant every day if I could…love them!

  7. Yes, to the cute pants by I.C. Collection! Love their edgy designs. Even tho I am much older than you I would definitely wear these…need to check at Dillards. They are looking "funky-cute" on you Pam – you go girl :))

  8. There are so many things I couldn't imagine myself wearing, Elaine, that I wear now. You just never know what might happen when you try something on. No one is in the dressing room with you…try on some garments you think might now work…you just never know!

  9. You carry off this look beautifully, Pam. It's not just that you choose wisely for your body type and lifestyle, but you have such a body-confident attitude!

  10. I used to wear culottes back in the day..I was much slimmer then. I am often hesitant to wear something I used to wear back then…its like been there done that for me..but you look cute in those funky pants…and yes I remember Steve and his dance..LOL..
