Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: Stylish Flats, Fantastic not Frumpy for Fashion over 50

Welcome to a fun collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40.  We desire for all of us… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day.  After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning.  But, we both know just how transformative style can be, and hope to encourage you right here each week.  We want to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence

There are many who believe a woman cannot look stylish in flats. The believe women over 50 in flats look old and frumpy.   I beg to disagree!  Unfortunately, aging cannot be stopped...there is really no anti-aging anything.  Part of that journey is dealing with challenges which pop up along the way.

For me, one of my challenges is what I call "funky feet!"  From bunion surgery, to hammer toes, to callouses, I deal with all types of foot pain and have been told point blank by doctors...do not wear heels!
I have made a determined choice to not allow this to steal my joy.  Rather, I am going to own it and have fun with flats...there are so many stylish choices and I believe you can look just as good in a flat as in a heel.  Flats are not old...are not frumpy...and are not ugly.

I have a friend in her 60s and she wears heels almost every day, I am happy for her she can do that; however, I am not going to get depressed or not put effort into my style, because I cannot do the same.  I can be confident, look great, and, yes, even own the room in my flats.  This is where you start with how to look stylish in flats...with your attitude and confidence level.   I wear them with everything...and it works!
If you can wear heels, that is awesome, but do not put down those of us who must wear flats at a certain age.  Do not call us frumpy....we are fabulous!

How do you feel about flats?

Let's go see how JENNIFER OF A WELL STYLED LIFE is wearing her flats...then, check out some of the fun selections on the market right now!

Have a wonderful week!

Career Reinvention after 60: Maturity Helps This Time

My younger professional self was quite different from my current professional self.  First of all, I wear more neutrals now and love it.
But, I have noticed many changes since my return to professional life after age 60.

First, I have learned to respond to situations slower and without over reacting.  My younger self would tend to over react or get heated a little too quickly.

Now, I wait to respond and every time my response has been much better than if I had quickly opened my mouth. I wish my younger self had practiced this!

I am not as anxious as before when I cared about moving up the ladder or, on the other end, losing my job.  This time I am a leader and if I were to lose the job for any reason, I know I will find something else to do.  This gives me confidence to speak up with ideas whereas my younger self often kept quite...mostly out of fear.

My current self cares about the whole team and helping to bring the whole team to a point where we all work well together.  My younger self was not as appreciative of the talents of others...now I am fascinated and love the talents of others.

It is amazing how much teaching journalism in high school for 16 years prepared me for this moment.  Learning to inspire and motivate teens is the same with adults.  We all want appreciation!

What hasn't changed is I still appreciate a good sale.  This summer sweater from EILEEN FISHER AT DILLARDS was in an out-of-season sale a couple of years ago and works perfect for South Texas Climate.  It wasn't meant for fall, but is great for our type of fall!  I love it with my black pants, tank and flats.  I often pick up Eileen Fisher on sale at Dillards and it keeps me very happy!

Would anyone else like to share what your older self does better now than when you worked younger?

Returning takes humility, hard work, and can be much fun!

Keep Smiling, everyone.

More Beauty Products for Women over 50

Hi everyone, this is a feature I do from time to time to inform you about products which are good for the seasoned lady in us all.  I am sent many products to review and I only share with you the ones I like.  This line called LOOK FABULOUS FOREVER is skincare and makeup specifically for Women 50+.  I tested the primers for face, lip and eye and I really like them.  Good primers make such a difference in how our makeup looks and lasts.  I recommend you spend some time on the website learning about Tricia and her products1
My husband I both love this line of fragrant oils by RIDDLE and that is perfectly fine, since it is designed for men and women.  The aromas are sensual, peaceful and luscious.  The oil is such a great way to apply fragrance and the tall bottle has a rollerball.  I highly recommend...what a lovely Christmas gift this would be!
I really like these products from TO GO SPA and they came at the right time.  My eyes have been so tired lately from overwork...I read to put the COLLAGEN EYE PATCHES in the refigerator for cooling effect...
And they are so refreshing at the end of a long day...help to de-puff the eye and relax.  I also like the COLLAGEN LIP MASKwhich is perfect for our age...
These are the ones I have tried lately which I liked the best.  We can all use a little easy help to look and feel our confident best!

Thanks for stopping by!

Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: Fashion Over 50 Leopard Looks

Welcome to a fun collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40.  We desire for all of us… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day.  After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning.  But, we both know just how transformative style can be, and hope to encourage you right here each week.  We want to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence

Whether it's leopard, cheetah, animal print...no matter the label, women over 50 love it. I have been known to wear jackets, shoes, scarves, blouses, pants...and to prove a little leopard goes a long way.
One of the reasons I decided to wear my leopard cape today, is because I wanted you to see that no matter the year...leopard is in style.  I have owned this cape for about eight years.  It never really goes out of style.

The cape is a great piece for right now when some days are not too hot and not too cold.

Here are some of my other favorite ways to wear leopard...

There are beautiful leopard pieces on the market right now.  I pulled a few for your consideration here...I have my eye on a clutch, and a tunic...okay, I know I already have a lot of it...but I do love it in my wardrobe.  Leopard is chic and classic. See what you think of these items, and make sure you check out what JENNIFER OF A WELL STYLED LIFE is wearing!

Career Reinvention Over 60: Confront Invisibility Head On

Invisibility is one of those topics often discussed throughout midlife social media.  When I was working as a high school teacher, I never experienced feeling invisible...although there were times I wished I was!

I realize the publisher of the magazines I am now editor over took a big risk placing a 63 year old at the helm while other publications are retiring editors and hiring much, much younger professionals to edit their publications.  In a communications world dominated by the younger generation, I get it.  I understand why I would be a risky move.  I am thankful and humble to hold the new position I now have.

However, I was surprised when I began to become invisible to some of the magazine's suppliers.  After all, it did not make sense to me, for anyone to discount my position.  But, it has happened.  My favorite story so far is a "supplier" (trying not to be too specific) who came in to pitch us.  He sat with me not six inches away, and spoke only to my boss the entire time.  He did not look me in the eye when introduced, nor welcome me to the position, nor respond to me when I spoke in the meeting.  My chair was empty to him...I was invisible.  And he is about the same age!

Two days later, we both sat at an event media table.  A local blogger sat down and began to congratulate me for my new magazine position.  The same man looked up and actually said,  "Oh really, what magazine are you with?"

I could have played along and simply answered the question.  But, I believe when faced with invisibility to confront it head on.  I am not going to give anyone permission to make me feel invisible.  So, I smiled and said, "Well I believe my boss is kind of cute and can certainly understand why you might speak only to him in a meeting, but two days ago I sat right next to you through an entire meeting and I believe if you think about it, you will know what magazine I am with."

When the light dawned, the look on his face was as if a haunted house zombie had jumped out unexpectedly from behind a post....absolute horror.

He called a few days later to apologize.  I am not going to be one of those who waste time railing against invisibility...of course, it is rude, of course it should not happen, and of course, it can make us feel insignificant.  But, life is short...I am going to stand up to those who are that way...one at a time...and not give their actions a second thought.

Take control...don't let them take it from you!

Keep Smiling!

New Pure Jill Luxe Tencel Collection from JJill: Fashion Over 50

I am thrilled to be one of the bloggers asked to show you the new Pure Jill Luxe Tencel collection from JJill.  Today is launch day and these area looks which will help you life be easy, comfortable, and luscious.

These styles will work for me this fall and winter when I want an easy way to look my best on days where I need to run a lot of errands or meet friends for lunch.

PURE JILL LUXE TENCEL ASYMMETRIC TOP

My husband loved the color of this dress so much I believe he would like me to get other garments in this blue.  This PURE JILL LUXE TENCEL TIERED DRESS looks great with or without leggings....which JJill have many to select from.

The Pure Jill Luxe Tencel® range, is made from an exclusive fabric blend (tencel/poly/spandex), that is fluid and lightweight with an incredible hand feel.  Tencel® is a natural botanic fiber, more absorbent than cotton, softer than silk and cooler than linen – because of these properties even those with sensitive skin can wear this fabric with ease.  Such a cool softness.

Above is the PURE JILL LUXE TENCEL MAXI DRESS and THE PAISLEY BORDER SCARF PONCHO (poncho is on sale)

I actually saw a long black dress like this one styled in a magazine with a fun khaki trench and athletic shoes...it was a very stylish comfort look.

I encourage you to give THIS PURE JILL TENCEL COLLECTION collection some consideration...the fabric and new styles are worth your time.

Keep Smiling!

Clorox 2 Stain Remover and Color Booster Fixes Inspiration Procrastination

I am so glad I have time to practice!  My whole family ...including three grandchildren...will be here for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I want to make cut out cookies, but it has been years since I tackled the task...and I have been procrastinating the practice sessions.
Here is the reason why.....decorated holiday cookies are so messy from the flour, butter, rolling pin, to the very messy food colorings which easily stain clothing.  I always wear aprons, but I want my aprons to be clean and stain-free as well.  Each one of my aprons tells a story of where it originated.  So, I learned early on how to tackle stains from food coloring to gardening and face my special projects fears!  So, for years I have relied on CLOROX 2 STAIN REMOVER AND COLOR BOOSTER.
This weekend, I decided to practice with the cookies already cutout.  Of course, I selected to practice on a cookie which takes BLACK icing.  The first thing I did was stick a fork in the top of the icing tube and black icing flew all over my favorite apron.  Perhaps, I squeezed the tube a little too hard while I was looking right at it.
This apron has been through 26 years of cooking and I have always loved to cook.  I got the apron at a visit to Disneyland when my children were young, and it was my takeaway souvenir, but with a product like CLOROX 2 STAIN REMOVER AND COLOR BOOSTER I have been able to keep it clean all those years of creative, experimental cooking.
In the past, when I have used food coloring, I have always needed to pre-treat the stain and let it sit before placing in the laundry with the Clorox 2 Stain Remover and Color Booster. They say it works four times better than laundry detergent alone...and I have proof of this throughout my household.
For best results with stains like food coloring, try this:
o    Pre-Treat to Remove Tough Stains:
§  Apply this product directly to stains.
§  Rub in gently and set for 5–10 minutes. Do not allow to dry on fabric.

Wash as usual with Clorox 2® product and your favorite detergent.
It is amazing how it still looks new. What doesn't still look new is something else I trust (in addition to products like CLOROX 2 STAIN REMOVER AND COLOR BOOSTER)...my original, favorite recipe for decorated cookies...you can tell the recipe has been used since I began my family 32 years ago... I wish the stains on the cookbook were as easy to remove.
It's the Mary's Sugar Cookie which is the best...enlarge it, use it and you will know what I am talking about.  Trusted brands are important like this Cookbook has been to me.  I love brands I can rely on and I can rely on the fact CLOROX 2 STAIN REMOVER AND COLOR BOOSTER will keep my favorite apron with me for a long, long time.  For tips on how to get more life and longevity out of your clothing (like I have out of my apron) just go to CLOROX WEBSITE.

Now, back to practice...I only have a few short weeks to get ready before family arrives. When I am ready, BRING ON THE GRANDCHILDREN!

Tell us below what projects find you procrastinating because they are so messy and you could win a fun prize package from Clorox 2.

Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: Celebrating with Girlfriends Over 50

Welcome to a fun collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40.  We desire for all of us… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day.  After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning.  But, we both know just how transformative style can be, and hope to encourage you right here each week.  We want to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence

Every now and then it's fun to meet with friends to catch up on families or celebrate a birthday...usually around nachos, guacamole, and maybe even a margarita or two!  When I dress to meet my girlfriends over 50, I want to look fun and stylish, but not seem like I tried too hard.
That is where fun garments, such as we find on ARTFUL HOME, are perfect for celebrations with girlfriends!  I love this FELTED WOOL VEST for times like this... I like to wear it open, but it is gorgeous closed and comes in vibrant colors... go HERE to see just how beautiful it is.
The designer is TERESA MARIA WIDUCH and her designs are incredible.  I would wear any of the jackets featured on ARTFUL HOME designed by this talented and unique woman.  This is why so many are going to Artful Home for investment wear...the designs are the highest quality and you will not see them any where else.  These American designers truly are unique.
In Texas this time of year, a vest is a perfect way to go .  The first cool fronts may bring a few breezes, but not enough for a coat.  Wearing a look like this, helps me feel confident when I go to see my friends.  We don't get together near as often as I would like.

Now, let's go see what JENNIFER OF A WELL STYLED LIFE is wearing to meet her friends in California!

Eileen Fisher: Afternoon Wedding Wear for Women Over 50

Last weekend, we attended an afternoon wedding at the beautiful HOTEL VALENCIA ON THE RIVERWALK and I decided (for this women well over 50) I would go with Eileen Fisher from Dillards.
This jacket and dress were purchased at Dillards recently during the reveal of the Eileen Fisher new collection.  I love pieces like this.  I can make it work for a wedding, a business function, a luncheon, and, of course, mix both garments up with others for many different styles.  It is the beautiful quality which make them both appropriate for many dressing functions. And that justifies the cost for me...I will wear them often, they fit beautifully, I feel very confident in both, and I need to have a certain public persona now that I edit a well known local magazine.  I have very few garments like this in my closet but it is worth the investment for me to own a select few.

The hotel is a stunning celebration of beautiful neutrals and color.  I am always inspired by the decor and settings around me.  It's a great way to get ideas for outfit combinations.

Also, outside of the hotel was the annual chalk art celebration.... when downtown San Antonio streets are turned into artistic splendor!

What do you like to wear to an afternoon wedding this time of year?  Please share your ideas!

Keep Smiling!
