Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: Saturday Brunch Fashion Over 50

Welcome to a new collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40.  We desire for all of us…the grandmothers, the professionals, the retirees, the volunteers… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day.  After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning.  But, we both know just how transformative style can be and we hope to encourage you with specific, step-by-step guidelines right here every Sunday.  We would like to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence!
Each Sunday, we will bring to you a scenario we face each week and show you our step-by-step process as we decide what to wear…you will see on our individual blogs how we handle the challenge and seek our personal sweet spot for the day!
I love brunch...don't you...especially on the weekend!  Some of the photos I will feature today are actually about EASTER BRUNCH...but more about that at the end.

We are discussing what to wear to Saturday brunch which is often more casual than Sunday or holiday brunch.  I have seen some ladies come on Saturday looking as though they just rolled out of bed.  I am familiar with that style...I honestly used to do it.  I would dress my precious children so nicely, but not leave time or care for myself.  So, now, though it is Saturday, I take time to look my best!
I would wear something fun and easy like this SOFT SURROUNDINGS SUNSET TOPPER!  This is a way to be comfortable and still look stylish.  Comfort does not have to be yoga pants, or denim with holes.  I repeat this often...you just never know who you are going to meet or see, or what opportunities may come your way.

Plus we enjoy the meal and the company more when we are confident and can enter the room with a smile.

The bracelet is also from SOFT SURROUNDINGS JEWELRY ON SALE..  And I selected my black ballet flats...which I love for casual style.
If I take the time to look my best on a Saturday, then brunch may easily be at the SWEETFIRE KITCHEN AT THE LA CANTERA RESORT.  And not at a pancake house.  Why not eat in a special place when I am dressed for special time with family or friends? (And the food is so delicious there!)

THE SUNSET TOPPER is lightweight and designed for confidence with a flattering fit...in fact is great to wear for shopping after brunch.  Much better than going home in an old tee shirt or sweat shirt.  Good to have a Soft Surroundings nearby in THE SHOPS OF LA CANTERA.

Omron Healthcare Introduces New Blood Pressure Monitors

A Sponsored Post

With close to 75 million Americans suffering from hypertension, OMRON HEALTHCARE has brought important information and two new products to the market this year, which should help all of us in the Baby Boomer generation.

"We offer many Americans peace of mind," said Jeff Ray, Omron Healthcare's Executive Director of Business and Technology when explaining to me the advantages of the new PROJECT ZERO Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor and the Project Zero Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor.

"Our wrist monitor is the smallest, lightest, clinically accurate monitor," he said.  "It also has the ability to remind the owner about times to take medications, times to take blood pressure readings, count calories, and track activity."  The device was not designed to be worn all of the time, but has a battery life for fifty measurements and two weeks of data to be stored in a single charge. Hence, owners seem to want to wear it longer for that peace of mind.
The wrist monitor does have Bluetooth capability and will work with the new OMRON connect App, which tracks your personal activity and health history. It also offers insights to improve your numbers and even connects your doctor as a tool for more insightful care.
.
However, when using the wrist monitor, the owner must remember to raise the arm to heart level before taking a blood pressure reading.  "This is why there will be some who prefer the Arm Blood Pressure Monitor," said Ray.  This device only monitors blood pressure so it sells at a lower price point...however, it also has Bluetooth Smart Technology and allows users to sync and store readings to a smartphone or tablet with the OMRON Connect App. It is an easy device for the active user who travels a lot and is constantly on-the-go.

Ray said, "We are so excited about these devices since hypertension and heart health are such serious issues today." Hypertension means someone has blood pressure readings higher than 140 over 90 mmttg (millimeters of mercury).  With that, their heart works harder to pump blood throughout the body.  "These are medical devices," Ray said and designed to help those with hypertension have an affordable option to monitor their health. More questions on blood pressure may be found HERE.

Both will be available toward the end of 2016.  For updates on the products, sign up for alerts at the OMRON HEALTHCARE WEBSITE.

Mironova EGT + : A Consideration for Heart Health

This is one of the last pictures with my mother taken at my daughter's wedding about four years ago.  As I said in the video, both of my parents died from heart disease.  I watched how it affected their overall health for years...and I do not want to be the same!  My mother could barely function with swollen feet and legs. As she neared her time, her mind was less and less sound.

Yesterday, I attended the Go Red Luncheon by the American Heart Association with several hundred local people.  It was sobering to listen to women who did suffer heart problems and also had it in their families like I did. They said 1 in 3 women will have heart disease or a stroke.

1 in 3...I looked around my table and thought, I could easily be the one.

It is quiet sobering to think every forty seconds in the U.S. someone suffers a heart attack or stroke with debilitating or deadly consequences.  I was very overweight for years...fortunately I did not smoke like my parents, but over eating can have just as deadly results.  My regrets are that I waited too long to decide I needed to change my lifestyle, but at least at the ripe old age of 62 things are much better than they were when I turned 50.

I watch what I eat, have worked to lower my weight, and strive to exercise regularly.  Weight training and the treadmill have helped immensely. I have learned the symptoms of a heart attack and try to listen to my body.  But, I think I will always be concerned about the heritage handed to me from my parents.   I say all this to explain why I am very interested in sampling the new supplement, MIRONOVA EGT+.

As soon as I received it, I visited their website and researched the super antioxidant, ergothioneine.  MIRONOVA EGT+ is the first and only supplement made with the highest available concentration of ergothioneine in a convenient tablet, which is affordable for daily use.

Most of you know the importance of antioxidants, but if you have difficulty remembering, then an easy one dose supplement is for you. Ergothioneine may help to clean the "rust" out of your heart which develops from oxidative stress in the body turning LDL-cholesterol into damaging oxidized LDL.  Ergothioneine's ability to support healthy cardiovascular functioning in vitro has been well documented in peer-review literature. Furthermore, our bodies have specialized transporters designed to deliver ergothioneine to areas inaccessible by other antioxidants.

As I said in the video, ergothioneine is the reason why we are told to eat mushrooms...this is where it is found most often.  Here is an INFOGRAPHIC with more information about it.

I am going to give it a try in addition to the other good health practices I have started...it is never too late to start, but if you are younger, do not wait to take care of your heart...do it now!  I encourage you to do what I do with everything health related...research it and see what you think.

Affordable Fashion Idea and The Fabulous Thursday Blog Hop!

On Monday, I brought to readers HOW I PRACTICE AFFORDABLE FASHION...well, here is one more idea, though I have only done this once!

Years ago my husband showed up from a business trip with a dress for me...it was this print in an ankle length maxi dress!  It was overwhelming...and though I appreciated his gift...I just could not go out in the dress.

So, I designed a way to cut it off...laid it out on the floor...looked at the pocket placement...and even did a high/low hemline...and I chopped away.  Then I actually took it to the dry cleaners to have them sew in the hem.
I love it and wear it as a tunic or a jacket with a black tank underneath.  It was one way to keep a garment and re-fashion it to work better for me.

It is so nice that it matches perfectly these COLORFUL METRO LEGGINGS AT SOFT SURROUNGINGS.  Looks like they were made for one another!

Have you ever re-designed a garment to work for you??  Let us know...then go join in with these wonderful blogs on the Favorite Things Thursday Blog Hop!!

Neiman Marcus: Spring Trends 2016 Fashion Show

The NEIMAN MARCUS SPRING TRENDS Fashion Show was absolutely stunning.  I explained to all of you IN A LETTER HERE why I cover these events...and I certainly walked away with inspiration from our wonderful store at THE SHOPS OF LA CANTERA....they produce first class events.
This show featured styles from five spring trends, so I am going to divide the posts that way.  The first trend for spring is LACE, LACE, and more LACE.

Now, I confess I was not a fan of lace until I saw some of these gorgeous designs. They might have me re-thinking my options....I could see me in black lace...or this teal.

I I wanted you to see the sleeves on this dress...beautiful...and I love the multi-colored necklace with it.
Lots of creamy white... then black lace...

This year's runway was all about DRESSES...something I need to add more of to my wardrobe.  It seems whenever a special event rolls around I am in need and they are cooler down her for the hot summer months ahead.  These were so pretty and again, may have me trying on some lace.

How do you feel about lace?? Let us know before you go!

And watch for the next two Spring Trends next week!

Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: Fashion Over 50 on a Budget

You are looking at a coral necklace I bought for fifty cents at a garage sale and then I added a shell I found on a Texas beach.  Fifty cents...and I have worn it for the past two summers with pride.  With a little creativity, it is possible to look your best and even have fun with fashion on any budget.
For the past 6 1/2 years, this blog has mostly been about affordable fashion. I have showed the audience ways to find fun style at places like TARGET, WALMART, and KOHLS.

I have also demonstrated how to find designer looks at resale, consignment, GOODWILL, MARSHALLS and ROSS or even AMAZON.  It takes time to shop and try things on ...but treasures do await.  I own Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Eileen Fisher, DVF and others from places like this.

I do not pay full price for anything!  There are too many ways to locate your style within a set budget including a good off-season sale.

I like to read magazines, catalogs, and look at Pinterest to see who produces quality and what is in style...then go find it with the shopping budget I have.

For example, I discovered the Joan Vaas brand at Neiman Marcus a couple of years ago and loved it.  So, when I found a pair of Joan Vaas leggings at MARSHALLS for $18, they were mine!  And have been my favorite leggings since the purchase!  It was at a high end store where I learned this was a quality brand...and at a budget retailer where I could actually own it.

There are too many places to locate quality at any price...and unless you write a blog,  your circle of friends and associates will have no idea where you shop.
Sometimes I take a magazine page or a cell phone picture of a look I like along with me shopping and find a way to create that look on the budget I have.
The blouse to the right was the color of the year and I was looking for that color and found it in a quality piece for $4 at GOODWILL SA. Often, they still have the tags on them.

Quality accessories are even easier to discover at a variety of places...designer, leather handbags are in almost every resale location from a yard sale to a thrift shop. Jewelry comes at any price point
And if I want to participate in a trend...I can in a variety of ways.
I saw a woman yesterday I would guess to be in her 70s who was totally wearing trends...fringe purse, bohemian tunic, leggings...and she easily could have styled it anywhere with any budget.

I love the few high end pieces I own in my closet, but they were all purchased on sale or gifted to me.  My real fun with fashion is in the hunt...what I find for less and how it fits into my style and what I want to say with my style.

I also love to shop and style my friends...and hopefully inspire those of you who read this blog that you can do it as well!!  Budget is not a barrier to looking your best!

As I wrote yesterday, I discover ideas and inspiration from the high end retailers and events and then apply that knowledge to my own style.  I don't get frustrated when I cannot afford something...I get ready for the hunt to re-create it on my budget.  It can be so much fun...and I hope I have inspired some of you!

Now, let's go look at JENNIFER OF A WELL STYLED LIFE'S take on affordable fashion!

Please remember we have a live talk called a Blab scheduled for Tuesday with one of my favorite bloggers, Susan.  I hope you can join us...it is easy to subscribe to Blab (free) just click on the image below!
Just had to leave you with a more ideas...I could do this all day long!

Bye now!
