Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: Women Over 50 Wear for Summer Outings

Welcome to a fun collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40.  We desire for all of us… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day.  After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning.  But, we both know just how transformative style can be, and hope to encourage you right here each week.  We want to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence.

Summer is full of so many fun activities…sightseeing, traveling, festivals, and, on this day, lunch with my girlfriends at La Madeleine!

The reason this outfit works for me is…..

1. The Chico’s poncho is light, airy, and flattering with the diagonal stripes. It can go to any summer outing and I feel very confident.

This is the PAULA DIAGONAL STRIPED PONCHO AT CHICOS

2.  I prefer these METRO DENIM CROPS FROM SOFT SURROUNDINGS to shorts.  I just feel confident wearing them and they are very comfortable, flattering, and not hot to wear.

Stripes are everywhere right now and do approach with caution.  Horizontal stripes will add the appearance of weight and make us curvy, busty ladies look larger.  These diagonals trick the eye into following a more flattering fit.

Underneath the poncho is one of my many CHICO”S TANKS.  I have several colors and wear them often….highly recommend. The one I am wearing here is blue.

I am going to enjoy a summer outing much more if I am not overheated and this is why I tend to prefer the light, breezy tunics. Also, on my feet are my FIT FLOP METALLIC SANDALS…they are the most comfortable sandals I own and I wear them often….especially when I am going to be walking many places.  They also come in a variety of fun styles.
Finally, I am wearing for makeup Bobbi Brown Long Wear Collection…it is designed to stay on in Summer Heat…I particularly love the long wear cream eye shadow!

Typically, this type of look might be what I wear for summer sightseeing or going out…what do you like to wear when sight seeing or a summer lunch with friends??

Let’s go see what  JENNIFER OF A WELL STYLED LIFE has to say about this!

Keep Smiling!

  1. You look wonderful, Pam! That poncho is really flattering, and I think your pics are better than the ones on the Chico's website. 🙂

  2. I love the crops! I went to the link and noticed they were calf hugging on the model…but your pair look loose at the calf. Are they?

  3. I really think they fit more like a pant. I wear the XL size and always cover up with the top because it is not flattering on me with at the top, but the XL bottom does fit more like a pant than a legging. Once you discover your size in the Metro, then you can enjoy all of the different designs they come in!

  4. This is a great look for summer. I am such a fan of ponchos! This one looks light and airy, as you said. Those salads look delicious!!

  5. I love the asymmetrical look of the hemline. This is a slimming look for anyone, whether you're heavier on top or bottom. Diagonal stripes fool the eye. I have a sleeveless top very similar to this and love it!

Part of the trick is coordinating the dark pants to the top for visual continuity — avoiding contrast is slimming, too.

Thank you for another refreshing, winning, modern look.

  6. What a cute outfit! I love the poncho! Don't you just love the FitFlops? My favorite sandals ever! I have several and wear them all summer. I think you could wear this to any number of events. Thanks for sharing!

  7. I was JUST SAYING to the husband how Im a hot mess (literally) here all summer long.
I miss the Bay Area only for that reason 🙂
