Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: Black & White Fashion Over 50

Welcome to a fun collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40.  We desire for all of us… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day.  After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning.  But, we both know just how transformative style can be, and hope to encourage you right here each week.  We want to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence!

The trees in my front yard prove white shows up about now every year!  Fashion media may tell you wearing black and white is a seasonal trend, but really it is always appropriate wear…always chic…always classic…always clean…and always works when you don’t know what to do.  It has a timeless allure.

I know if you are a regular reader of this blog, you are also aware I wear black and white often.  Today I am wearing a tunic design from SOFT SURROUNGINGS.  I do not believe the top is currently available online…but originally came in several colors.  What is great about this top is I wear it as a jacket or a tunic and some might wear it as a dress with sandals ….and of course, with a slip underneath.  It works all year for me as a top.

This is how I might look heading out to business meetings during the week.  The pants are the most popular pant at Soft Surroundings called THE METRO LEGGINGS…it fits like a pant and not like a legging!  I have them in blue, white and black because it is a great fit and comfortable denim pant.  With the right fit in a pant, wearing white is slimming and does not make you look larger as some will say.  It is all about the fit…not the white.

I love to pop color with accessories.  This bag is larger and perfect for work as I can carry my IPAD and calendar in it.  It even holds a file folder or two.

My bushes like to pop a little red as well!

Can you tell I often gain inspiration from nature!

For the style above, I am wearing this necklace designed and created with hand blown beads from SUSAN BUTLER. The picture here is from when I wore it last week as well…I love this necklace!

There are so many styles we can do with black and white…it works all year long!

What is your favorite way to wear it?  Now, let’s go over and see how JENNIFER AT A WELL STYLED LIFE wore hers. Remember our HIT YOUR STYLE SWEET SPOT PINTEREST BOARD for ideas!

  1. So lovely, as you are, always! My wardrobe is now limited to black, white and red, and it's working so well for me… Thanks for the inspiration!
    big hug,

  2. Black and white — and red. In my mid, there's nothing better than a few simple fashion pieces that carry the potential for multiple incarnations. Work, lunch, travel, socializing. A great article and timely piece of fashion advice for Spring.

  3. Thank you Ellen…so kind of you to say this. I really appreciate you stopping by to comment…I love how chic black and white is in so many ways.

  4. So many links to check out; we buy artisan glass for many of our handmade designs, and somehow missed those pants & tunic. So glad I saw your blog on black and white. Often we also suggest adding a handmade necklace for the pop of color.
