For 2016, I Wish for You Fresh Flowers!

With the passing of each year, I realize more and more there are little things I want to experience daily..such as, fresh flowers in the house.  Or scented candles and French Roast coffee each morning.  The years do go faster and days do seem shorter...

That is why each day, I strive to look my best ... no matter what my appointment calendar says.  I want to treat each day as a special, unique opportunity...you just never know who you will run into or what might come your way.

On this day, I was simply running errands...meeting a former student for lunch...helping Mr. B pick out glasses and working at home...but it was special nonetheless...so why not dress for a special occasion?

It is one of the reasons I stopped drinking out of plastic cups at home....why should our beautiful crystal just sit in a cabinet all the time and not be used??

So, for 2016, I wish for you, dear readers....

Votive Candles,
Exquisite Crystal,
Fine Lotions,
Rich Aromas,
Soft Materials,
Warm Baths,
Vibrant sunrises and sunsets
Unspeakable Joy...

But, most of all, I wish for you...bouquets of fresh flowers!

This is the PROFLOWERS RUSTIC BLOOMS BOUQUET and it is beautiful. It goes well with my French Country decor perfectly. If you would like to place an order, make sure you use THESE COUPON CODES for savings.  Remember, flowers represent #FreshBeginnings! Follow them @ProFlowers.

Happy New Year's Eve...stay safe!

La Cantera Hill Country Resort: Time for a Winter Escape

That is exactly what my husband and I did for two days...escape! We went to the LA CANTERA HILL COUNTRY RESORT for a brief celebration of 31 years of marriage and we did not want to leave.
We arrived at sunset to a fabulous room with a view over the Texas Hill Country.  The rooms are beautiful with my favorite products by NEST.
At dusk the courtyard fires are lit and it is beautiful and fascinating to watch the flames dance with the fountains...

I love it that our anniversary is at Christmastime...just makes everything even more special to me since I love Christmas so much.

After a special treat in the room, we headed out to view this amazing property.  The views, pools, decor are stunning and I know I must enjoy these pools this summer.

Then we headed into the SWEETFIRE KITCHEN for dinner...I had the salmon and Mr. B, the sea bass...but the piece de resistance was the apple tart with bourbon ice cream!  Sooo good.
Well, at the risk of making you completely ravished...We also had one of the best breakfasts I have enjoyed in a long time...

It began in the room and continued downstairs...with San Antonio flair...my husband said their huevos rancheros was the best!

I highly recommend a winter escape from cold and snow to the sunny, beautiful south...LA CANTERA HILL COUNTRY RESORT includes an AWARD WINNING GOLF COURSE, and soon to open in 2016 the MOST AMAZING SPA EVER...
Happy Wednesday, all!

Disclaimer:  I did receive a free night at the hotel, but the words and opinions are my own.

Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: A Quiet Over 50 New Year's Eve

Welcome to a new collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40.  We desire for all of us…the grandmothers, the professionals, the retirees, the volunteers… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day.  After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning.  But, we both know just how transformative style can be and we hope to encourage you with specific, step-by-step guidelines right here every Sunday.  We would like to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence!
Each Sunday, we will bring to you a scenario we face each week and show you our step-by-step process as we decide what to wear…you will see on our individual blogs how we handle the challenge and seek our personal sweet spot for the day!
How are your holidays going?  I hope they have been special so far...now it is time to begin discussing all things 2016!  It has been a few years since we went out to a rockin' New Year's Eve celebration, but we do have invitations for the weekend...not for fancy parties, but nice dinners...

MY OLD THINKING:  New Year's Eve formally was a time I believed you had the license to go crazy with fashion...glitter...sparkle...tulle...and all things party wear.  And, of course...we do have that license if we want it to go out on a bedazzled limb...

NEW THINKING:  I no longer want to walk that walk. I think more about what I say with my clothing choices and I understand more than ever, what fits "me"...my personality and lifestyle fused.  Confidence is the key to looking younger in our clothes...not necessarily sparkle!  If you normally go with lot's of shine, try a more subdued look this year and see what you think.  Or, just keep the sparkle under control...less is always more.

My husband purchased this jacket for me last week at MELVIN ROSE BOUTIQUE IN BOERNE(see yesterday's post).  The brand is Chalet, one I really like typically found in boutiques.  I like the sleek, simple style...buttoned in front or not.

The touch of fun here are my SOFT SURROUNDINGS faux leather pants...something I would wear out for a fun evening and to take a simple look up a notch... but not for a business setting.  Remember, this is a great time of year for the end-of-season clearance sales!  That is where I found the pants.  I had my eye on them all fall, but so glad I waited for the SALE!
For Christmas Eve, I was in a pencil skirt, sheer black hose, and a statement necklace...a bit fancier than this, but I feel great in both.
My versions of understated chic...

The pearl necklaces were also a Christmas gift from Mr. B...he did great this year!

These gorgeous, comfortable leather flats are from ROCKPORT and are perfect outfit completers!  The above look would also go well with boots if the weather permits.  The last two weeks have been very warm, but I am told this week will plunge into new lows!  I know the beautiful pointed-toe flats are hard to see in the grass, so I made sure you had a better view.

I am flying solo this week...Jennifer has house guests (something I completely understand) and will return next week!  Have a wonderful holiday week!

And lot's of laughs!  Enjoy!

Enjoy Boerne, Texas!

Awww...December 26...the saddest day of the year for me...I love all the build up to Christmas and, of course, the two-day festivities! So, the day after is a bit of a downer.  This past week, my husband I headed up the freeway to spend a day in the charming hill-country town called BOERNE....so let's keep reflecting on Christmas for now...
Boerne is known for it's small town flair...antiques...boutiques...and excellent food.  We had heard this, but never experienced it and Boerne and its citizens did not disappoint!
We discovered by far the best pumpkin spiced latte I have ever tasted at the THE DIENGER TRADING COMPANY, a restored old library, now a coffee shop, boutique, and bookstore.

We ran into many Boomer couples out doing the same thing!

So much fun!  And lunch at the THE EPICURE DELI was fabulous..Brie and Apple Panini...delish!

If you are ever cruising down IH-10, stop in at BOERNE...don't keep going or you will miss out on a fun experience.

And Jennifer and I will see you tomorrow for HIT YOUR STYLE SWEET SPOT!

Can't wait....see you then!

The Grinch Tried Again....And Failed

Just before Thanksgiving a conversation ensued between co-workers who have worked retail for years.  They informed me I would end up hating Christmastime after my first year in retail, and that it would take my love of the season and smash it into pieces.  I am happy to report, despite only a couple of rude men, I really loved this side of Christmas.  The Grinch did not get me...until...last Thursday....
I went to the mall early to do some shopping before work.  Rushing into Sur la Table to pick up a gift, I confess my mindset was on all I needed to accomplish in a few days.  After a purchase, I must have left my wallet at the cash register desk...because it ended up in nefarious hands.  While I went next door to work for five hours, the criminals went shopping with my cards.  I lost a beautiful wallet my husband gifted to me last year...gift cards...cash...my driver's license... hard earned income...and peace of mind.   Of course, this has been a pain to navigate as some of you know.  In the words about the Grinch, it stink, stank, stunk.
We live during a time when there is so much we are not sure of...I am not sure what these people will attempt to do with my license...I am not sure of safety...I am not sure that the lazy and evil will not try to take advantage of all I have worked hard to obtain...BUT, I am sure...
of the reason for the season...that on Christmas morning my adult children will be as excited about their stockings as they were at age five.. we will laugh and enjoy as we slowly unwrap each package one at a time... the carols will be playing in the background...my stomach will ache as I miss family members a world away...

We will gather around the table yet again and partake of rich, delicious food which will be worked off the following week in a gym.

The Whos down in Whoville will love, hold hands, and sing again.... Fahoo Fores Dahoo Dores

THE GRINCH tried and failed....He cannot have my joy.

Have a Very Merry Christmas!
(See you this weekend)
