Soft Surroundings: Just for Midlife and Beyond!

When I made the decision to work retail while seeking full time work, I selected SOFT SURROUNDINGS for a reason....I love their clothes!  They are gorgeous...high quality...and targeted for the midlife and beyond woman...not to mention all of the amazing beauty products and gorgeous home decor sold along with the fashions.

I love these wide leg, flowy PANTS... so cool for summer constructed from rayon and nylon. Seriously, as refreshing as a short. I also love the champagne color.  It is currently very popular and a nice option to white.

Of course, it is time for SUMMER SALES and Soft Surroundings does not disappoint.  If you are near a store, make a special trip...the stores are amazing...gorgeous from scents to decor.  We had a husband in our LA CANTERA store tell us last week, it is his favorite place to shop with his wife...he loves the ambiance, the friendly staff, the clothing selections, and the great service.  Ours is a place where husbands get a big, comfy French Country chair and a cold bottle of water while they wait.
I have owned this necklace from NINA FORREST for a couple of years, but wearing it reminded me of her excellent line.  Check it out HERE.  Also, my black asymmetrical tunic is from CHICOS. My bronze FitFlops are AT DILLARDS HERE AND SO COMFY!

24 Hours With Jenny Craig's Food Plan

I thought I would show you what a typical day looks like for me on JENNY CRAIG.  When I say the food is excellent, I mean it!  On this day, I began with FLORENTINE BREAKFAST PIZZAS, and coffee...have to have my coffee.
My mid-morning snack was the VANILLA CREME MILKSHAKE on the patio...I love to throw in a dash of cinnamon.
The amazing new ASIAN STYLE CHICKEN for lettuce wraps was lunch.  I just pour it over chopped romaine and eat out of the bowl...so good, and just as tasty as any I have eaten at a restaurant.
My afternoon was made so much brighter with this RED VELVET CUPCAKE...oh, you need to taste the icing!

I try my best to eat dinner between 4-5 in the afternoon, so I do not go too late.  This CHEESY CHICKEN ENCHILADA is delicious and on this day I ate it with broccoli....some days it might be a salad, or spinach.  I love my greens!

I was too full to tackle an evening snack, but typically it might be KETTLE CORN!

The JENNY CRAIG FOOD PLAN is easy to follow...tastes great...and gets mixed up occasionally with new additions.

Have a glorious Sunday, all!

*I was provided a free trial program, and free Jenny’s Cuisine® items.  However, the opinions and writing are entirely my own.
Members following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs per week

Just Ask My Son...It's A New Laundry World

I hate to sound old…really, but what will they think of next? So many great reinventions of products we love continue to amaze me. None more than Proctor & Gamble's Tide Pods!

My mother taught me to rely on Tide, and I have passed that on to my own children. A couple of times during child raising, I tried bargain brands, but always came back to Tide, because it really does get rid of stains. My sons' football uniforms proved it works beyond a shadow of a doubt. And laundry soap is something we should trust, and not have to stress over. Clothing is too expensive to not care for it properly. Who doesn't want to look bright and clean.

So, now we have our youngest living with us while he attends college. But, I am busier now than ever, so I need him to do his own laundry. The pods make it is so easy for a young, laundry-challenged adult. He doesn't have to measure or make a mess…just toss it in and clean. My husband likes them for the same reason and occasionally needs to wash his running clothes without me.

For my busy lifestyle, the Tide Pods are worth adding into the budget. I get assistance with the wash…no mess…clean clothes…no worry. It completely works.

It's a new, easier laundry world…#laundryredefined!

Happy Friday!

What Being Fit Really Means...Plus the Thursday Blog Hop!

Meet an I MATTER woman...Debra Atkinson, MS, CSCS is America’s Boomer Babe Fitness Expert. She is a national speaker and author of several books including Navigating Fitness After 50: Your GPS For Choosing Programs and Professionals You Can Trust. Her newest title is under construction and out this fall- The After 50 Fitness Formula For Women: Eat More, Exercise Less, Heal Hormones and Boost Energy Naturally for Whole-You Wellness. Connect at www.voiceforfitness.com.

Debra shares with us today what it truly means to be fit!

"It takes more than exercise to get fit. The kind of fit that is like the smile that reaches your eyes definitely takes more. It’s the you-know-you-glow kind of fit that I’m talking about. Oh, outwardly others are noticing to be sure. They just can’t put their finger on it. Did you get a haircut? Did you lose weight? Is it a new outfit?

Meanwhile, you just go on twinkling. You’re more creative again. You’re more productive. You actually think when you walked in the room people turned to look. Motion drives emotion. When you start exercising your posture improves. You hold yourself differently. People may ask if you’re taller.

You shouldn’t have to depend on the scale to tell you if you’re happy today. The scale doesn’t tell the whole story anyway. Fit at 160 lbs is sexier, smaller, and turns heads more than fraught at 160 lbs.

Forgetting where the keys are or who you were just calling is not that big a deal. Forgetting where you are or who you are when you’re at your best is a big deal. You might find your waistline again as you get fit. More importantly, you might find yourself. Dump the scale, ditch the diet and do it because I Matter!

Here are five steps to get started or restarted now and how they help.

1. Lift weights. After 35 you began losing muscle mass easier than you keep it. On average losses are about 8-10% losses every decade. If you lose muscle, even with out gaining weight you have more fat. The fastest change in your body will come from strength training. Twice a week is ideal. You will see it and feel it.

2. Choose aerobic activity you love. If you don’t love it you’ll leave it. You need to get breathless at least once a week. Find a hill and power up for one minute. Walk down and repeat five times. You want to go long and slower once a week. You also want to have a moderated intensity exercise once a week. The variety of exercise means better fitness. The more oxygen to your body the more alive you’re going to feel.

3. Eat more protein and good fat and green leafy vegetables. Your fitness requires fuel. Eighty percent of your fitness in fact is about what you put into your body. Protein and fiber kill cravings. Never diet again. Focus on all the things you can eat and you’ll be too fuel for the rest. More protein than most Boomers grew up eating will fill you up, satisfy you, and keep you mentally sharp.

4. Get to Sleep. Exercise without it is dangerous. With two-to-four hours sleep deprivation you’re “drunk” and balance is compromised. In order to collect your benefits from exercise you need a hormone called Growth Hormone to repair and rebuild muscles. It’s released in deep sleep.

5. Drink plenty of water. If you’ve thought about exercise but can’t find the mojo it could be dehydration. Start in the morning and add fresh-squeezed lemon. Besides hydrating you’ll re-balance your pH levels. A balanced pH is a better environment for your glow.

Three out of five of those steps are passive. Eat, drink, and sleep right and exercise just takes you home.

The fitness ship never sailed without you. This cruise docks regularly and always has a spot. There’s never been a better time to be your age. There’s more proof than ever that you can reverse aging right down to your cells with fitness. Your chronological age means nothing. You can literally change your biology."

She inspired me!  Thanks to Debra for joining us today for #IMATTER!  Now, please go read the fun ideas from the bloggers of the Thursday Blog Hop...I am sure they will be talking SUMMER!

Have a wonderful Thursday!

The Power of a Goodwill Donation...Calculate It!

Disclosure:  I am writing on behalf of the Ad Council

Many of you have commented on my wonderful find at Goodwill San Antonio from today's post.  Treasures like this are made possible by the many wonderful citizens who donate to Goodwill, and the work this important organization does in each community.
I have items in my garage set aside to take to Goodwill right now, and I was excited to learn exactly the impact this donation will have in the community.  I love to clean out throughout the year and know these donations assist with job training and placement opportunities for those with disabilities and disadvantages in my own town.
.
Currently, Goodwill is promoting its DONATE STUFF CREATE JOBS CAMPAIGN to remind us of the help we can give just by cleaning out.  In 2013, 261,000 earned jobs...that is one person finding a job every 27 seconds of the business day.

I love this new feature...you can calculate how many hours of job counseling your donation provides to someone in need of help on a donation calculator.  These three piles will equal 5.6 hours of career counseling.  See it MY DONATION.  Find your calculator YOUR DONATION HERE.

Regular readers of this blog know, I LOVE our local GOODWILLSA.  I just returned with a new haul of designer finds.

But, what is more important is what it does for our fellow citizens...not what it does for my closet...though that is fun.

Consider a summer clean out soon, and calculate how many hours of help you provide just by going to GOODWILL  Also, make sure you leave with a tax receipt...always helps...right??

Have a lovely evening, everyone!

Rainy Days and Mondays...Really Aren't So Bad!

 MARSHALLS

Hope everyone enjoyed a fun Father’s Day!  We continue to have rain, and hopefully, will not suffer any more flooding tragedies in our area this summer.  However, it is nice to see green grass, full lakes, and clouds in the sky again.  Many Texans thought the drought would never end.

This is what I wore out to a Father’s Day dinner on Saturday.  The blouse is by Rose & Olive, a line often found at Nordstrom and Stein Mart.  I found this flowy, black and white tunic recently at MARSHALLS

I know I am in black again…I really try to stay away sometimes, but it is me and what I love and bend toward.  I am wearing more white pants and colors this summer than I have in a long time.  So, though I may not always feature them, the colors are there.

What are your favorite colors for the start of summer 2015?  Please share and I truly hope you have a wonderful week!

Miessence Skincare Products: Certified Organic Line

Just a few words today, I have been working my little retail job a lot!  The makers of MIESSENCE sent me some of their organic skincare products for mature skin.   You should read about Natalie and her company, HERE.  This is another success lead by a woman.
I really like the FIRMING EYE AND NECK SERUM and think it works great...admittedly, I have only used it around my eyes and I needed a good eye cream.

Check them out and see what you think.  Then have a

Career Reinvention Requires Flexibility

Yes, it's fabulous Friday!  Hope your week was a good one. On Monday, I discussed how the journey toward a job change has required humility, credibility, and a teachable spirit. Plus, I learned a lot about the world of retail this week.  For example,
I now know what a Henry clothing hangar is...how to wax a bar...why you need two pair of shoes for a five hours shift...and the importance of moving garments around.  I have also learned that I am a wimp...these workers are amazing with their stamina!
I am also learning how to be flexible with my schedule.  My life was fairly set for the last sixteen years, and now I am having to learn to bend to a part time retail job, freelance writing deadlines, job interviews, the gym, and the needs of family.  It can be tricky and I confess to occasional frustration when the schedule is changed up without warning.

But, you know, that is also what keeps life interesting and fun.  I always loved journalism, because it is not the same every day.

Humility, flexibility, credibility, and a teachable spirit all make up my current walk toward a new career.  It is important for me to do all of them with a joyful, hopeful heart.

This is the second of two dresses I bought recently at MARSHALLS because I just want to wear dresses again after a long hiatus.  I love the color palette, and the knit is so comfy and cool in this PHILOSOPHY REPUBLIC CLOTHING dress.  It is a sleeveless dress so I paired it with a JJILL cardigan...the necklace is CHICOS....the shoes are LUCKY BRAND FLATS from Macys. (all of those purchases in the last two years)

Any big plans, or life lessons you would like to share with us??  I do so appreciate you coming by each day.

Also, read about me today on ELEGANTLY DRESSED AND STYLISH!!  In the interview, Jessica asked me to tell her something I had not written about on the blog...click on the link and see what it is!
