The Grinch Tried Again….And Failed
Just before Thanksgiving a conversation ensued between co-workers who have worked retail for years. They informed me I would end up hating Christmastime after my first year in retail, and that it would take my love of the season and smash it into pieces. I am happy to report, despite only a couple of rude men, I really loved this side of Christmas. The Grinch did not get me…until…last Thursday….
I went to the mall early to do some shopping before work. Rushing into Sur la Table to pick up a gift, I confess my mindset was on all I needed to accomplish in a few days. After a purchase, I must have left my wallet at the cash register desk…because it ended up in nefarious hands. While I went next door to work for five hours, the criminals went shopping with my cards. I lost a beautiful wallet my husband gifted to me last year…gift cards…cash…my driver’s license… hard earned income…and peace of mind. Of course, this has been a pain to navigate as some of you know. In the words about the Grinch, it stink, stank, stunk.
We live during a time when there is so much we are not sure of…I am not sure what these people will attempt to do with my license…I am not sure of safety…I am not sure that the lazy and evil will not try to take advantage of all I have worked hard to obtain…BUT, I am sure…
of the reason for the season…that on Christmas morning my adult children will be as excited about their stockings as they were at age five.. we will laugh and enjoy as we slowly unwrap each package one at a time… the carols will be playing in the background…my stomach will ache as I miss family members a world away…
We will gather around the table yet again and partake of rich, delicious food which will be worked off the following week in a gym.
The Whos down in Whoville will love, hold hands, and sing again…. Fahoo Fores Dahoo Dores
THE GRINCH tried and failed….He cannot have my joy.
Really sorry to hear about your wallet. At this time of year London can be very bad for this type of thing. Before coming to France I was very careful while out shopping to keep my purse well hidden. These things are sent to try us however as you say nothing can touch our inner joy.
Oh Pam, I am so sorry that this happened to you. You are always an inspiration and certainly no less today. I hope that you get all this sorted out. Sending you love sweet friend!
So sorry to hear about this, Pam! It's happened to me twice, and the time spent making things right was the hardest part. No one can take away your Christmas joy, though – have a lovely one with your family.

I usually am very careful…I had a moment of busyness…won't happen again. Thanks Josephine…enjoy France.
Thank you, Susan. It was annoying, but not debilitating! Have a wonderful weekend.
Oh Patti…so sorry it has happened to you twice! I know how annoying that is. Thanks for the kind words…enjoy your weekend.
I am sorry this happened to you. Our wallets and our purses are our lives. It took a lot of strength on your part to keep this from stealing your holiday joy. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
I confess it shut me down for a couple of days, but then I was able to pull my attitude together and remember the season I love. Thanks for stopping by Alana.
If you filed a police report, you cannot be held financially responsible for more than 50$ of the fraudulent charges on your credit cards.
Oh no Pam. So sorry this happened to you!
How frustrating for you Pam. I am glad you are not letting it spoil your holiday. Have a joyous Christmas!
Sad to hear…such an invasion…so hard not to worry…or view the world differently. But you have won out over evil! No one can take your joy if you refuse to let them! Enjoy your holidays and the ones you love. Thanks for sharing this…Merry Christmas!
So sorry! It sounds like a most unpleasant and awkward experience. However, I think you did suffer it graciously. Merry Christmas from Stockholm, Sweden
I LOVE your attitude, Pam! You deserve the most magical Christmas!

I'm sorry about your wallet. It's great that you won't let it steal your joy. My 17 year old daughter is still excited about her stocking too. Nicely written post.
You are inspiring, Pam! Sorry for the evil people of this world, but thankful that they didn't change you!
I did file a police report and we are on our way to seeing all that can be done. Thanks Susan!
