Career Reinvention: Next Step…HOPE and a Fun Outfit!

If I look like I am smiling a little bigger here, it is only because I am feeling much better as I progress down the road toward a career reinvention.

The first month was more of a surprise…I did not expect to walk through the sadness and grief I felt at leaving my teaching position after 16 years.  But, I definitely experienced grief.  Once I recognized it and allowed myself to feel those emotions…I was able to move forward.

The next flood of emotions included anxiety and fear of the loss of my regular paycheck.  I have relied on the first and fifteenth of the month for so long, it would be an adjustment if suddenly that cushion wasn’t there.

Tomorrow I am going to write more about the stress involved with a job change…and other big events in our lives.

July has brought new thinking…new waves of hope…new strength…and new courage.  I am feeling so much better and ready to tackle anything ahead on this journey.  We will see where it leads.  But, I have gone from grief to HOPE.  A word I really love.

I wanted to mark today with a new outfit…perhaps, a new favorite.  The top is  THE SIDE TIE TRAVELERS TOP FROM CHICOS (which I purchased recently as a Passport Member for 45% off). I like to leave the knot untied and hanging in an asymmetrical style.

I love my new SOFT SURROUNDINGS METRO LEGGINGS (I hope to have these in other colors some day…great fit and comfort)…and my new SOFT SURROUNDINGS SCARF (seriously the softest scarf in my wardrobe).  The bracelet is an old one from ELAINE TURNER.  Shoes are my bronze LULU FITFLOPS FROM DILLARDS which I have worn daily this summer.

One more note…I saw the scarf tie on a website and pinned it recently.  You just hang the knot in front and low.  I got so many compliments on this style the other day when I wore it to my part- time retail job.

It’s a new day…a new smile…new hope…all we can do, is take one day at a time.

Enjoy Yours with a Smile!

  1. Pam,
Your great attitude is going to take you places! I believe the doors have already opened for you. On another note, great look for you-love your Chico's top and the scarf makes a nice accent piece with a pop of color.

  2. Pam, you are such an inspiration for those making career and life transitions. Your optimism and determination will serve you well (and any employer will be lucky to have you!). The scarf is so pretty!

  3. Hi Pam – I so agree with the "period of mourning" needed for leaving a long term job. Glad you're moving on and hope is shining and I'm also glad you've got this nice little part-time job to help keep the wolves from the door until you find your dream job – cheering you on from Oz ~ Leanne x

  4. Pam,
I always say that everything happens for a reason and this is the path that you are supposed to follow. I take it that you chose to retire? I go part time in 2 weeks which will be an adjustment for us because I am the major bread winner but I am so looking forward to it. 36 + years of full time…I need a break!!

    Hugs,
    Deb

  5. Absolutely, Pam…one day at a time and hope carries us a very long way…I'm pleased you are feeling better about things…keep smiling…the best is yet to come 🙂 xx

  6. Looking forward to the post on changing jobs and the stress involved. I'm seriously interested in this topic! Love the leggings. I see them in the catalog all the time and have often been tempted to get them. Might have to take the plunge!

  7. I am loving this look on you Pam, featuring a big floaty scarf! I always love seeing a fluttery scarf in summertime, they are quite rare and I think they look so feminine and beautiful. Your posts about the career reinvention have been inspiring and interesting. xx

  8. I like that you're always looking for the positive. That's hard to do, but important. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's post.

  9. Yes, I did notice your big, beautiful smile. Amazing how much better we feel when we acknowledge the hurt, fear, angst. The feeling of freedom, and then the ability to move forward. I look forward to reading what's next for you!

  10. Attitude really is half the battle and you have a great one! You look really cute in your new horizons outfit. Thanks for sharing with the #funsummerfinds linkup!
