Would You Wear It Wednesday: Distressed Denim

Looks like these are all over Pinterest, blogs, and in windows at the mall.  Distressed denim…a fancy term for ripped jeans…is every where and on every age of woman….styled in every possible way.

I told you in yesterday’s post what I think…but I am teachable.  What do you think?  Would you wear them…or do you wear them!?  Does this type of style help a woman to look youthful?

Please join in!  Then enter to win the gorgeous custom designed jewelry HERE and finally…..

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  1. I believe women of a certain age look ridiculous wearing ripped jeans anywhere but at home. I am 55 and would not bother buying a pair of these jeans.

  2. I do not wear distressed denim. I think it is a very sloppy look and when women 'of a certain age' wear it, it looks like a desperate attempt to look younger (just my opinion!) I have seen some distressed denim that borders on trashy, and I'm no prude! Fine for the very young, if tastefully done.

  3. No, not for me! Personally I don't care for the look on anyone, but I realize it's "the thing" for the younger girls. I have a pair with holes ( not there by design) I use for painting!

  4. First off, I am new to your blog and very much enjoying it! I have to join the chorus on this one. I think there are many fashions–including short skirst–that women over 50 can wear well but this is not one of them. It goes with cropped shirts as belonging to my daughter's generation.

  5. I don't even like to see distressed denim on young women, so it is a definite no for me. I guess I grew up during the era that if you had holes in your jeans you were poor.

  6. I consider this a teeny-bopper trend, one that makes anyone over the age of 18 (maybe 21…) appear as Susan says, "trying too hard."

Wearing my comfiest pair of jeans, the ones with holes in the knees because I can't bear to part with them, around the house on the weekend is one thing…purchasing a pair to wear in public is an entirely different matter…

  7. I have a friend in her late 50s who is very thin and could pass for 40. She wears them all summer long, even to restaurants. I don't think they are appropriate for anyone past their 20s, much less a parent of someone with kids in their 20s.

  8. No definitely not. I like my jeans well fitting and as plain and classic as possible. With youth you can get away with most things ripped jeans are not as bad as some of the styles I used to wear in my late teens!!!

  9. I would in moderation. I would tone down the distress factor. Less rips for me. Otherwise, yes, this is the way we roll in California.

  10. I'm 30 and I have a pair of distressed jeans. Mine aren't as distressed as the jeans pictured here. I love them. I think they add a bit of a edgy relaxed vibe to what would normally be a very safe look. The woman pictured here looks great!

I'm stopping by from the SATXBloggers page. Happy to have found you. πŸ™‚

  11. N O. In fact I have a Pinterest Board called "Trends that need to go away- Overdone, wacky or tacky trends. Their days should be numbered in single digits." This one is at the top of my list.
Of course I'm 58 and this doesn't fit my style recipe, but it's been overdone.

  12. I have a pair of boyfriend fit jeans that are a little distressed, although not nearly as much as the ones in this picture. I love them, and get lots of compliments when I wear them. Based on the comments here, maybe they're just being nice :)! I will say we dress pretty casually here in Seattle.

  13. I have some jeans about that color that are distressed, not nearly so much as those. I style them casually, with flats and usually a white top. It's a summery look. I liked them 40 years ago, and I still like them!
I put iron-on patches on the inside so the frayed part doesn't show skin, it also keeps my toes from getting caught and ripping them when I put them on.
I saw a famous Kuwait blogger ascia_akf in similar pants. She took hers to the tailor and had them lined so as to remain modest. I've thought about lining them with printed fabric instead of the iron-on patches, but it's a little too prairie queen for me.

  14. I'm considering a "lightly distressed" pair. As someone mentioned above, in California the denim "rules" are a bit looser. πŸ˜‰ I love the mix of lightly distressed with polished pieces in the same outfit.

  15. In my early 20's I wore ragged cut off jeans that were very short and slit up the sides. They were so comfortable and I absolutely loved them. My mother however was horrified. 45 years later I finally understand her perspective… I wouldn't be caught in these. There are so many other truly beautiful things to wear πŸ™‚

  16. I do think that as with anything else, any item of clothing can be made to look chic, with the right complementary piece and/or accessory. I'm in my mid 40s and have been wearing distressed jeans of varying degrees my entire life. I've seen many women across all age groups pull them off with panache. I've also seen an equal amount of women across similar age groups wear non distressed jeans in the most tacky fashion possible. At the end of the day, it's truly a matter of personal preference.

  17. Oh my God, are you kidding, you look great! Age has nothing to do with fashion now days, anything goes! I am very young looking for my age, but even if I were all grey and looked thebgrandma part I would still wear distressed jeans, the more distressed the better I like them!

  18. Yes yes yes! 59 looking good in my distressed jeans age has nothing to do with great style and i love in tennessee!

  19. Absolutely LOVE distressed jeans in many different looks. Very edgy, artistic and sexy! With a great top, shoes and jewelry they are, SO FUN to wear. I do a variety of looks with mine and have received very flattering compliments. Always keeping good taste in mind. P.S. i am 67

  20. You bet! I'm 55, recently retired. Distressed & relaxed jeans fit my new casual lifestyle and they are SO MUCH FUN! I would never have had an opportunity to wear something like this when I was working… so I'm embracing new-to-me! Very artsy and I get so many compliments on them. A couple pair also have paint on them and I love them even more. I have blue, white, cream and grey pairs. I'll stop wearing them when I get tired of them. πŸ™‚

  21. Skimming through the comments, I see a mix of almost ‘prudish’ , and some that love them! My favourite is the idea of doing some rips but then putting fabric underneath so that skin doesn’t show – this could even be in bright colours – to make sure everyone knows it’s not skin… and to add a bit of pop. Just a thought.

  22. Just to add – I think it needs a level of confidence to ‘pull them off’, which I sadly don’t have (yet!). I’m 58, and hoping to upgrade my style a notch in the near future. I have a cousin who wears them with pizzazzzz!

  23. I am searching for the right one. I am 43 and love the chaotic jeans with straight lines of a clear, light cardigan or elegant leather accessories. πŸ‘πŸ‘
