Appreciating Passage of Time...Winner Announced!

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving week! I love our home this time of year...we are one of the few houses in San Antonio, Texas where autumn comes in brilliant color throughout the front yard and neighborhood.  I could never tire of living in this house.
I am thankful for so much, but particularly thankful for my husband, Mr. B.  Thirty years ago on December 1, we married. I was approaching old maid status (in my mother's eyes) at the ripe old age of 31!
But, thirty years later I am feeling pretty good.  Just like this house is my home, Mr. B is my home.  I would not want to be with anyone else. We have raised a beautiful family and life together....weathering storms and sharing celebrations.  Love is not on a romantic balcony every day...but we have managed to visit the balcony often and keep the sparks alive.
I am truly blessed.
We will celebrate officially in a couple of weeks...for today, I simply say...I love you!

Have a great start to your beginning of December!
Oh yes, the outfit-of-the-day!  This is a fun GIANNI BINI CARDIGAN I picked up in DILLARDS a few months back!  It has these faux leather sleeves and I really like it with leggings or denim.

Jenny Craig Update: It Takes Patience to Change a Lifestyle!

I have really tried my best to be very honest with you about my weight loss journey.  I know it is a struggle, and at age 61, not easy at all.  I have a lifetime of bad habits...so the road has many ups and downs....hopefully, by showing you those tough times can be eventually overcome, it will encourage more of you to join me with JENNY CRAIG!.
Before Thanksgiving, the confetti was flying at my Jenny Craig appointment!  Finally, I officially lost 20.6 pounds!  I have been waiting three weeks to officially hit the bit 2-0.  Unfortunately, the next week was Thanksgiving!
My JENNY CRAIG CONSULTANT gave me a plan for success...and I ignored it all.  I love to cook this meal.  It has always been one of my shining moments...and I always use the top ingredients...Yes, that means BUTTER.
So, I paid for it on the scales...so sad...I gained 1 1/2 pounds!  Learned my lesson.  (I will say, the family cheered and said it was one of my best meals ever...they were relieved to discover I could still cook!)

Anyway, I am back at it....back on my MEAL PLAN...and still believing I can hit a 25 pound loss before the new year comes.  But, it will take more will power than I showed this past week.  This was a big lesson to me of how easy it would be to put it all back on again.  Something I never want to do. I will listen to my consultant next time!  I know it is the holidays, but I do not want to use that as an excuse to go the wrong direction.  This is a lifestyle change...not really a diet for me.

If you have any questions about the diet, just ask.  I am so grateful for the success Jenny Craig has given me so far.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

*I was provided a free trial program, and free Jenny’s Cuisine® items. Currently, I purchase their food at a special rate.   However, the opinions and writing are entirely my own.
Members following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs per week

Marie Callender's Frozen Desserts: Dressed Up for the Holidays

It is officially that special time of year…hustling, bustling, shopping, partying, and sometimes entertaining with a moment’s notice. Because so much happens between now and New Year’s Day, it is nice to have assistance when family or friends unexpectedly drop by to gather round the fireplace or the big game!
MARIE CALLENDER'S FROZEN DESSERTS have become trusted friends over the years.  I can grab one from the freezer…dress it up a bit…and take it out to guests for a homemade, warm and toasty holiday feeling.

Here’s an example.  Just purchase the Marie Callender’s APPLE CRUMB COBBLER.  Before placing in the oven to bake, add 4-5 pats of butter to the top.

Then cook according to directions…adding the crumb topping for the last ten minutes of baking.  Of course, it is delicious right out of the oven…but, if you want to dress it up for the season, do the following….

Pour the entire cobbler into a bowl while it is still hot…stir in ½ teaspoon of Roasted Saigon Cinnamon (for a rich intense cinnamon spice flavor which mixes well with the spices already there).  Cover the top with your favorite caramel sauce and stir it all together.
Then, scoop onto a plate your favorite holiday ice cream….such as, egg nog or cinnamon or pumpkin spice…or even pecan praline…then pour over the ice cream your rich creamy apple dessert topping.  A little touch of whipped cream just makes it holiday ready!  Serve with warm drinks and the applause will follow.
You can dress it up and take it out!  Thanks to MARIE CALLENDERS frozen desserts…I always look like a hospitality star!  Stop by and Like their FACEBOOK PAGE!! You might discover even more ideas.

Have a wonderful Friday everyone!

JW Marriott Hill Country Resort & Spa: For Local or Getaway Family Holiday Fun

Isn't this the cutest couple?  Has to be my favorite Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus ever, and I found them at the JW MARRIOTT HILL COUNTRY RESORT AND SPA.  I gave the picture a vintage feel because they look like transits right out of Miracle on 34th Street!
Not only is this a top notch hotel with golf course and spa, but the JW Marriott is locally a great place to take the kids for some holiday fun. I was there for the official lighting of the Christmas season...full of good tidings and seasonal fun for all.
There was dancing with Christmas elves, visiting with Santa, and whether you are in San Antonio desiring a getaway or tourists, here is some of the seasonal treats on the calendar for families of hotel guests:
Breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus;
Elf Tuck-in with a treat;
Gingerbread Craft Workshop; Holiday Stuff-n-Fluff Animals; JW Sounds of the Season; Kids Night Out at the Ranger Riders Kid's Club; Become an honorary Elf; Ornament Decorating; Holiday S'mores (look for me!); Story Time with the Elves; and photos with the Clauses. All available until December 24. Find more information and great rates HERE.
Of course, my husband and sons want to see just one playoff game on this amazing screen in the HIGH VELOSITY SPORTS BAR.
I have enjoyed the LANTANA SPA more than once...sounds heavenly for a gift this year!  They are also running a Black Friday special with all of the items sold in the spa boutique.

I also saw several fireplaces which would make for cozy hot drinks while you watch the kids have fun! I will be looking for those s'mores!

Sounds like such a great way to celebrate the season and continue the fun we had the other night.

It is not a dream, San Antonio...the best Santa is within our midst!

Have a wonderful Wednesday and for all of my American readers, a joyous Thanksgiving!

Jewels of the Vineyard: Fabulous Designs, Designer and a Giveaway!

I am so glad to have met jewelry designer, Cheryl Thompson, and to discover her talents with Jewels of the Vineyard designs.  These pieces are fabulous and I know will be worn over and over again.
CHERYL THOMPSON is a very impressive woman.  She told me the following about herself:

"I live and work in the small town of Yountville in the Napa Valley.  Yountville is known for having the some of the best restaurants in the country and they are all within walking distance to my house. I never go hungry.  Whether it’s a walk through the vineyards or viewing local art, living in one of the most beautiful places in the U.S. brings me joy and inspires me to create.

I have two boys. The oldest is following in his father’s footsteps and is currently attending law school.  My youngest tends toward my creative personality and is studying at the Culinary Institute of America to be a chef. I expect low cost legal advice over a great meal.

I’ve been an artist my entire life, although not always a jewelry designer. From hand painted linens and fabrics to a ceramic manufacturing corporation, my hands have always followed my heart or art passion. Making jewelry allows me to use color, texture and style to create, what I call, art for your arm.  While it’s easy to find manufactured jewelry that is quite stunning, what excites me is artisanal work, one of a kind or pieces that connect with the person who wears it.  Jewelry is an expression of self.  From large and flamboyant to subtle and elegant, all of these “personalities” can be found in the work I do."

Her designs are truly exquisite!  I showed you one bracelet on Friday and the other today...which are my favorites. I am very into leather bracelets and there are so many to see and decide between.  The clasps and materials are top quality.

But, there are so many of her designs I would wear often and love to own...are you listening, Santa?

I hope you will visit the JEWELS OF THE VINEYARD website and also enter to win a $50 gift card below.   Some of my favorite bloggers have owned her pieces.  These are bracelets I would wear every day.

Afternoon Wedding Shower: What the Ladies Wore!

Despite stormy, balmy weather, friends and family came out to celebrate the bride for a beautiful wedding shower this weekend.  I thought you might like to see some of the fun fashion worn to this event by the fabulous midlife ladies!
These lace pants (right) were gorgeous and she found them at a little boutique in Bryan, Texas near the Texas A & M campus.
You can see it was a lovely afternoon and the bride-to-be-was precious. Aren't the ladies gorgous, though!

Hope you enjoyed these styles which caught my attention!  I will see you later for a contest you will not want to miss because the designer is so talented.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

You Will Not Want to Miss This Giveaway!

Isn’t this leather bracelet gorgeous?  I have worn it every day since it was sent to me! I need you to come back on Monday to meet the designer…see some more of her work…and register to win one of  her stunning designs for yourself.... or as a Christmas gift!  (Yes, this is a tease!)  Her company is JEWELS OF THE VINEYARD!
I have been shopping my closet a lot since cooler weather moved in.  Sometimes I will hang my clothes in different places…really, on purpose.  Then I can see how things look when I mix them up a bit.  That is how this outfit happened.

I hung my purple NYDJs at DILLARDS next to my camel LAFAYETTE NEW YORK COZY FLANNEL PLEATED VEST…and lo and behold, I loved the mix!  Organization is good, but it does help me to move things about and get a new perspective.  I love having my wardrobe composed predominately of separates…so much can happen when you have many pieces to work with.
I know that Friday has become JENNY CRAIG day, but I had to re-schedule my weigh in this week…so I will catch you up later in the weekend! Make sure you come by on Monday the JEWELS OF THE VINEYARD giveaway.  You can also see Une Femme modeling another one of her creations, HERE.

Have a happy Friday!

Disclosure:  The bracelet and vest were provided to me by companies but the words are completely my own.

Dare to Dream Means I MATTER...Plus the Thursday Blog Hop!

I love getting out in the public like I did last week at Saks Fifth Avenue.  I always enjoy meeting and speaking with people.  But, I noticed something last week which caused me to do some thinking.  I saw a host of women…all ages…frowning and scowling as they looked away when I smiled.  There could be many, many reasons for the frowns and distant looks.  As I walked out into the mall, I observed even more.
Maybe, they have lost their dreams, I thought.  I do not know what possessing dreams means to each of you.  But, for me, I hope I always dream.  Author C.S. Lewis wrote, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”
Now, I am speaking of realistic dreams.  Dreams that take us to places where we can use our gifts and our ideas forever. Dreams which allow us to feed deep longings within our souls.  Dreams which may not happen in castles, but perhaps could happen in the trenches serving others.  These dreams will bring joy and contentment as we live them out and see them come to fruition.  If I produced a reality show, it would be about the dreamers of Main Street (rather than the Real Housewives of anywhere). I did see many frowns on Saturday, but thank goodness, I know more dreamers than I saw.   I meet them all of the time!
Dreaming is tricky though.  It is not just about seeing ourselves in a different world.  It requires much more.  We learn a lot from other dreamers in this respect:

Estee Lauder: “I never dreamed about success, I worked for it.”
Marcia Weider: “Commitment leads to action. Action brings your dream closer.”
Gloria Stienem: “Dreaming after all is a form of planning.”
Walt Disney: “All of your dreams can come true, if you have the courage to pursue them.”
Garth Brookes: “A dream is like a river, ever changing as it flows….”

It does take work, planning, commitment, courage, and understanding.  Yet, it is the type of work which is satisfying to our hearts and souls ….results? Smiles and contentment.

In order to carry the I MATTER sign…be a dreamer.  Here is the last quote which seems to be Anonymous:
Life ends when you stop dreaming
Hope ends when you stop believing
Love ends when you stop caring
Friendship ends when you stop sharing.

Please tell us...do you have a dream?

Thanksgiving is one week away and I am so grateful for all of you!  Now please go enjoy the other dreamers of Katie’s Favorite Things Blog Hop!
