SPRING FORECAST 2014: KIMONOS AND ROSES!

Today, I am joining the ProFlowers Spring Look Campaign!  There are two trends immediately evident this upcoming season...kimonos and florals.

So, with my vintage rose kimono, and a rose necklace (I discovered in a fun little boutique about three years ago), I am able to participate in the fun!  Spring is the perfect time to think of flowers...whether placing them throughout the house or wearing them throughout the wardrobe.

I really love kimonos and they are showing on several sites...many with floral patterns.  This look is perfect for dinner with the husband, movies with the girls, attending an art show, or just fun at the mall.  And I also really love roses...if I want to send some, I click HERE...if I want to wear them, I reach for these items in my closet.

Since we are all improving with age...here is a rose which has been on my desk since Valentine's Day...I believe it is still gorgeous as it dries...definitely improving with age!

Does anyone else have a kimono or colorful florals already in your closet?

Have a warm, wonderful, weekend all!!
Now, I am linking up HERE WITH SHARE-IN-STYLE!!

I Matter, So Bring On the Fun....Plus the Thursday Blog Hop!!

Meet Nancy!  She is a vivacious; over 50; hard working wife, mother, and grandmother who is known for her big, beautiful smile!  She is constantly giving of herself to others, but knows it is important to keep NANCY at the top of the priority list.  When I asked her to tell me her favorite way to treat herself, she said, “OK, something I really enjoy doing is taking off on Saturday morning with NO time limits, no expectations from family members for me to do anything for them, and no real plan of action.  I like to let the day unfold. I usually end up at one or more places like Marshalls, HomeGoods, Pier One, Ross, Stein Mart, World Market or Tuesday Morning.  I walk up and down the aisles just looking.  Maybe something will grab me or maybe not.

I enjoy looking, because all of these places change their stock often and have reasonable (even cheap) prices, so if something does grab me, I can buy it without feeling guilty.  I also use these little outings throughout the year to pick up stocking stuffers or fun little surprises for family and friends.  On the way home, I might stop off at Starbuck’s and treat myself to a special coffee, or in the summer, my favorite indulgence is to purchase two large Dr. Pepper Icees at the gas station…one for me and one for my husband who is so willing to support the just-for-me-outings.”

Nancy and I have learned the importance of giving ourselves special treats or perks.  If I take a little something from each paycheck for myself, no matter how small, it just seems to make my work more fun!  My favorite perks have been sale clothing and shoes; fun accessories; good hair products; great makeup; pedicures; and massages.

I asked a few "over 40 ladies" (What is your favorite treat to give yourself?) and they all seem to love mani & pedis; one shouted CHICOS!!!; lunch with a girlfriend; and (by far my favorite answer) GRAETERS BUCKEYE BLITZ ICE CREAM from KENTUCKY loaded with chocolate and nuts (a close second is BEN AND JERRY'S New York Super Fudge Chunk)!

What is important??...Take care of YOU and discover joy in these little, special rewards!  We are so good at doing this for others…we need to be good at doing it for ourselves so that we will not become despondent or bitter when we help those special ones in our lives.

For the other I MATTER posts, just click HERE!

What is your favorite reward??

After you tell us...enjoy the Thursday Blog Hop!

First Birthday Party: Gone Fishing!

You can guess now that my big party was my grandson's first birthday and my daughter put on quite an extravaganza with a "gone fishing" theme.  It was so cute and a good time had by all!

She found the party signage and ideas and bought from LAUREN HADDOX DESIGNS ON ETSY!

White Chinese lanterns were painted to look like bobbers, and hung from the lights.

The menu included goldfish, swedish fish and gummy worms...as well as cupcakes from San Antonio's number one bakery, BIRD BAKERY!
She made a fishing hole in the backyard with a tire and sticks for poles.  The kids caught fish with magnets which told them what prizes they received from toys to hitting a parents' head with cascarones!

The photo area included a sheet on the wall with a fisherman's net over it.  Guests could dress in funny hats, fishing boots, fishing vests, etc. and pose for pictures....really cute!

There were fish coloring books for added activities and the birthday boy seemed to have a great time despite lots of sugar and no nap!

The cookies at the top were the party favors!!  So cute....

This tent photo was taken by BECCA, THE PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER hired to commemorate the event!  Great photos...highly recommended...she also did our son's engagement photos!

We are so proud of our cutie...he is growing up fast!!

Happy Sunday, everyone...see you later with a special introduction for Visible Monday!!

Why Do I Blog?

Recently, a post on another blog made me
wonder...why exactly do I do this any way?  So,
here is my answer.....

Why do I blog?

Because I love to write...to write each day and actually publish it
for an audience is electrifying!

Because I love to create...a blog becomes my own little
magazine where I can create with words, photographs, and
graphics...and I have always wanted to be EIC of a magazine.

Because I love to help other women...the many emails and
comments of THANK YOU keeps a smile on my face.  (I wish a
blog had existed to help me 20 years ago.)

Because I have a marketing background and mind... to work
with brands and to share with others the wonderful products
on the market, I believe helps others...then you decide if it fits

for you or not.

Because I love to have a little money ...just for me...to spend on
myself or others...I decide...and I earned it!

Because I can leave my day job and escape into a different
world of beauty and inspiration.

Because blogging is ageless.

Because I have met so many fabulous women and made new
friends around the world.

Because it's fun.  If it's not fun...don't do it!

That's why I blog...how about you??

Happy Friday, everyone!

How to Matter on a Budget...AND the Thursday Blog Hop!!

Meet Christy. She is truly an amazing woman.  I watched her go through a very difficult time of life when she completely put all of her energies into seeing two children through the hardships...and thought nothing of herself. Now, on the other side of it, she has decided to say I MATTER!  In the last two years, Christy has lost 48 pounds through calorie counting and strength training.  When she wears a dress into a room, heads turn!
Working with weights is such an important part of her life, her desk decor includes them! Through her example, more women are beginning exercise programs.  It is pretty crazy what Christy's arms can do!! She feels great, loves life, smiles more and knows how important it is to believe, I MATTER!

There have been comments and emails the last two posts about that
horrible green stuff which seems to control our lives….MONEY!
In fact, a couple of readers said they would love to upgrade their
closets but cannot because of money issues.

If I had waited to begin my makeover because I was too large or
too poor, I do not know it would have happened at all.  Once you
realize that now is the time to take care of yourself, do not let any
obstacles stand in your way.  It does not cost a lot to look great!

Here is what I did:
1.        I made a list of some basics needed to have a new wardrobe.  A great fitting skirt, dress, pair of jeans, black suit jacket, and white shirt with a collar.
2.       I searched everywhere for these basics.  From clearance racks, to thrift shops, department store sales with coupons ( I recommend KOHLS, MACYS, and STEIN MART). End of season clearance racks are my favorites…the deals can be amazing.  I learned when new merchandise hit the racks at MARSHALLS, TJ MAXX, and ROSS.  Of the three, Ross is the less expensive.  This was the time I began my love affair with our local GOODWILL stores.  After research, I learned the best locations featuring thrift garments from Chicos, Talbots, Coldwater Creek and other stores with  items which fit my curves.  I own a pair of shoes I purchased three years ago at Goodwill which are gorgeous leather flats.  I get compliments every time I wear them and they were $1.99!
3.       I tried clothes on and had a plan.  I did not leave the dressing room without knowing the garment was a hit and not a miss.  When there is little money, there is no room for mistakes. Some pieces I changed up a bit.  When a jacket is only $2, it might take it to a new level to change the buttons. I found those new buttons on other thrift items…new buttons can be very expensive!  I have also cut off long dresses to make them tunics.  Sometimes it is fun to play designer.  Just be careful and make sure the item is flattering to your body type.
4.       I studied magazines and tore out pages of styles I liked.  Then it became a game for me to see how I could copy the look at the lowest price.  It’s so much fun!
5.       Even if I could only afford one thrift item a week or a month, I still worked toward the new me. If I had sat stagnant or waited for more expensive shopping, I just know, it would not have happened.

I also kept a change jar in my laundry room.  Spare change found
around the house became shopping money and as affordable as
some thrift stores are, a change jar works!  It pays to learn what is
available in your area.  Sometimes Ross is a better deal for a new
garment, than an expensive thrift item.  There are thrift stores
which inflate their prices…so be wise and learn to be a savvy
shopper.
I hope this helps…start small…but make sure you start....  No
barriers should exist for a strong woman who says #I MATTER!

Happy Feet And Legs for Spring!

I am so excited that I can actually bend all the way over and look at my legs; but, not happy about what I saw!  They were so dry after hot showers and winter weather!  However, the wonderful ladies at the SAKS FIFTH AVENUE, IOMA-PARIS, counter had a solution

They recommended IOMA-PARIS specifically for LEGS and FEET to get "spring" ready.  In fact, one called the product a hangover remedy for high heel wearers...not me, but my feet still need special loving!  The gel makes my party with a tingly-healing feeling!

You can order online with these links, if you do not have a Saks nearby.  IOMA-PARIS is exclusive at
Saks...however, I am told is everywhere in France. I love their products!

Start preparing legs and feet now, so when sandal-weather finally comes (and it will come!) we will be ready!

Happy Wednesday, everyone!!
