Spring Break Reading….

Spring Break hasn’t started all that well…the refrigerator stopped working (dead as a door nail!)…and spring breezes blew in a sinus headache which kept me from attending a wedding I really wanted to see.  So, if I am going to put a positive spin on this (the refrigerator part will take two weeks to arrive)…less cooking, less grocery shopping, not feeling great equals more time for reading!!

VIVA EDITIONS sent me this book to review…What Would You Do If You Knew You Could Not Fail?: How to Transform Fear into Courage by co-authors Nina Lesowitz and Mary Beth Sammons.

It is an inspiring, hands-on courage workbook with stories of those who have grown courageous through difficulties, challenges, and facing specific fears.

On of my favorite quotes is at the end, “Sometimes we ascribe extraordinary talent or luck to people who achieve superstardom or fabulous wealth. Actually, in many cases, it has more to do with motivation and drive than with good fortune.  Horatio Alger was a 19th-century American author who wrote “rags to riches” stories. This scenario, which has fueled so many success stories of the American Dream, is accessible to us even in recessionary times. All it takes is a positive attitude and the courage to make it happen.”

This book is jam-packed full of great information, inspiration, and key steps to take if you need a huge dose of courage to move forward.

  1. Sounds very positive, Pam. I am reading Lean In, by Sheryl Sandberg. It's opening my eyes to some of the ways I hold myself back, for no good reason! : >

  2. That's to bad about your refrigerator. I had plumbing problems last week at our house. Refrigeration and plumbing are things you just can't be with out! Sounds like a great book.

  3. Oh dear Pam, first of all, I hope you get well QUICKLY! This is such a harsh time to be sick, but I'm thinking that allergies are starting to mix in with the end-of-winter colds. My husband was thigh-deep in snow about two weeks ago on the north side of the house, raking the snow off the roof; we still have a leak from the tonnage of snow that lifted the tiles…he got so sick but honey and lemon in hot water really got him back to health!

I love what you are sharing here. FEAR is our main enemy. It plays itself out so cunningly, so quietly, yet leaves scars and most of all, leaves a void in our lives. What I fear the most now is NOT doing anything towards my dreams. But as I look back, persistence pays off because daily commitment to what you love eventually pays off.

I wish YOU and all the others out there who dream, that your achievements are proof that fear is nothing…absolutely powerless.

    Be well! Anita

  4. It sounds perfect for where I am in my life, Pam. Thanks for the review. I'm heading over to buy it right now.

  5. Read, read, read…yes it helps me cope with the blues, illness, a bad back & anything else going wrong with life. I escape into a good book and in doing so restore my strength for my own challenges. I am reading Devil in the Grove by Gilbert King and I highly recommend it.

  6. Two weeks to arrive? That doesn't sound right at all.
Is this fridge newish? In my experience, if a part isn't immediately available and the appliance is more than 5 years old it's time for a new appliance.

I once went without a washer for weeks waiting for a part, which wasn't cheap, only to have that very same washer give up the ghost within a year of the waited-for repair. If it's under warranty and new then I'd wait it out, otherwise spend your Spring Break looking for a fridge!
