Our Need for Cheerleaders...Plus the Thursday Blog Hop!

Meet Gigi.  Well, many of you already know her. For three years, she was a star on this blog with her fabulous, creative style.  She is the one who talked me into blogging in the first place.  But, last summer she moved away (sniff, sniff).  Spring Break was special because we connected for a day of shopping, lunching, laughing, and sharing.  Gigi always sends the I MATTER message with strength of her convictions, participating in something she loves (painting and teaching art), and looking fabulous every day.  She is amazing when it comes to bargain shopping for designer looks.  And we filled her trunk with bargains last week!

Every woman should have a GIGI in her life.  Someone, friend or family, who will always encourage and knows how to balance truth and love.  I know she will push me forward where I need it, but also give me sound, honest, cautionary advice when I need to hear that as well.  I can trust her to tell me in a loving way if an outfit I try on is not going to work!!
It is important for any of you crossing over to the I MATTER side of life, so make sure you have this around you as well.  Sometimes the people who drag us down the most are not going to go away…and that is really okay.  If you are a blogger, you may also get the occasional nasty comment.  These don’t ever go away either.

So, how do I handle this?
1.       Understand when you are criticized, it is not about you.  They usually have something unhappy in their life which is causing them to lash out at another.
2.       Sometimes the criticism is valid and we must have the humility to process and see if there is anything within the comments we should constructively consider.
3.       Keep your focus on your strengths and keep going forward…as I said last week, do not allow anyone to steal your joy.
4.       Shake off the comments…change your thinking for that moment and focus on something more positive.
5.       Set goals for your life and keep focused on those goals…not on a hurtful comment… once again, shake it off…it can be done.
6.       Call your GIGI.  It really helps to have a cheerleader for processing.  She will keep you focused on making sure you carry your I MATTER SIGN.
7.       For me, I also pray.  Because I have a strong faith, I take everything to prayer.

We will get back to the specifics of my journey next week.  However, it is important to understand that there are speed bumps on every road.  You can get over them and continue on…just don’t stop.  Call your Gigi!

  1. Hi Pam,
Yes it's so great to have a personal cheerleader and I love your list--I tell my kids some of the same things! Thanks so much for hosting this great party. Aloha, Lori

  2. This is all such good advice. The one about taking a look at it to see if the criticism is true is a tough one, but it's important. Hope you have a good day.

  3. I do have a Gigi in my life and I'm grateful. I appreciate your words about what to with negative people and comments, how to process what people say. I needed to hear that as I'm currently going through a struggle with someone who just can't seem to stop being a discourager. I realize it is about her life and not mine, so thank you for helping me to see it in this way. I will remind myself that I can't let anyone steal my joy or try to discourage my dreams. Thanks Pam! Karen

  4. Great post my friend. Thank you for being my awesome co hostess and I agree we all need a Gigi. xo

  5. What a superb message! You GO, Pam and Gigi (and all the Gigi's out there)!

  6. So many of the things you've said today resonate with me. Thank you! I, too, am blessed with a Gigi in my life... someone I can count on to be there when I need her and to be completely open and honest with me. I love your Gigi's zebra print, by the way. (Zebras are the symbol for my very rare cancer!)

  7. Love this! My daughter is my Gigi! I don't know what I'd do without her constant love and support.

  8. Great encouragement, Pam! And thank you for partnering up with Katherine for the Blog Hop today! :) Blessings to you!

  9. I love your positive attitude, and I'm visiting from the hop. Thanks for hosting!

  10. Everyone should have a GIGI, you're right! I am fortunate to have a few special people in my life. While their names have changed, the concept is the same, they support me for who I am.

My deceased son's baptism certificate reads "The life and death of each of us has an influence on others". Even in death, we matter.

Visiting from Thursday's Favorite Things Linky. Hope you'll stop by Journeys of The Zoo (http://www.journeysofthezoo.com/2014/03/lego-movie-crafts-kids.html).

  11. Pam,

  12. Happy Spring! Thanks for hosting this party . . . I'm your newest follower :)
