Special Summer Moments
“I almost wish we were butterflies and liv’d but
three summer days – three such days with you I
could fill with more delight than fifty common
years could ever contain.”
Leave it to John Keats to
make summer days
sound inviting….yet (despite
the heat), there
have been some very special
moments this summer I wanted
to share…
For example, at a meeting in
SAKS
Fifth Avenue this week, I met a
beautiful young girl…stunning. I
assumed she was
studying fashion merchandising
for a her degree. The
wonderful surprise was that she
is studying library science,
because she is an avid lover of
books!!
As a high school teacher, we are
constantly lamenting over
the fact that young people have ceased to love reading in
huge numbers. Katie was a breath of fresh air…and she
will be one of the prettiest librarians I have ever
known…wish I had snapped her picture!
Now, meet Calley Gonzalez, one of San Antonio’s shining
lights on the fashion design landscape. She was recently
featured as an up-and-coming designer in British Vogue
and is the
fearless leader of the San Antonio Fashion Alliance. I am
working with her to promote the SAFA and our October
2013 Fashion Week. She is a very impressive business
woman, creative designer, and mom! Below see one of her
designs on the cover of the Fashion Week brochure:
Finally, before I began counting 1200 calories a day, my
husband (lover of small town bakeries) and I ventured into
this hidden treasure in Marble Falls, Texas….BROTHERS
BAKERY & CAFE! The coffee drinks are worth the drive
from SA, and
some day I will treat myself to another fresh
danish…AMAZING!
Have a wonderful Friday…keep your
eyes opened
for special summer moments!!
You and husband can still treat yourself to a trip to a small town, that ones' bakery looks like it's worth the trip! But, how about a small skim latte and splitting a generous Danish.
It's the first bite that's most enjoyable, so split a treat and enjoy the first bite. That's not the one that busts your plan.
Wow, Pam, you have so many exciting things going on! Looking forward to reading about SAFW!
Your comment that young people don't like to read anymore. Our 2 daughters, now in their 30's were read to everyday, and night from the time they were born till they were required to read "whole books" for school. I just could not understand this. I read constantly and so did my husband. Well at about 19-20 yrs old for both, they decided some books weren't so bad. The Heavens opened, tada! Now, they both read on a regular basis, and I am so happy.
Just thought you would like to hear this. Blessings Paula
I agree the first bite gives you the thrill. Savor it.
My daughter loves to read, though it's mostly teen-sci-fi-romance stuff, and my son is getting into it. All is not lost! There are still a lot of kids who love to read.
Wonderful post and report about young people with *plans*. I enjoyed it, and the danish looks very enjoyable too : > Like Rose, I think two bites would be grand!
What great early morning sharing, its wonderful to hear about young people doing well. The lazy days of summer are just arriving for me and I'm loving every hot second, kinda' like the danish, sweet and sticky but oh so good.

Enjoyed reading this post and learning about the interesting activities in which you are involved. How generous of you to share your talents and gift of encouragement with the young women mentioned. My husband is taking vacation next week and I hope to schedule off a day or two so we can visit some of our favorite spots together and enjoy a coffee and special conversation.
My daughter now lives in San Antonio. I will tell her about his wonderful bakery. Have a great weekend.
Have a lovely weekend Pam!
Nice post, I had no idea about the San Antonio Fashion Alliance!
