Living The Dream...

What does it mean to you to live the dream?  While it would be wonderful to have financial freedom, that is not the number one component to living the dream for Gigi and me.
For both of us, living the dream is pursuing our passions...for me to write and for Gigi to paint.  Once again this year, The Art Institute of San Antonio, displayed the original works of local high school art teachers.  Gigi was honored to show her picture of a fabulous woman attending a wedding.  Her painting is just one that makes you smile...she is a lady we all know...a grandmother, an aunt, a neighbor.  Returning to her own studio has lit a light inside of Gigi that nothing else can.
One of my favorite publications, Investors Business Daily, recently published these 10 Steps to Success:

Investor’s Business Daily
10 Secrets to Success
Investor’s Business Daily has spent years analyzing leaders and successful people in all walks of life. Most have 10 traits, that when combined, can turn dreams into reality.
  1. How You Think is Everything.  Always be positive.  Think success, not failure. Beware of a negative environment.
  2. Decide Upon Your True Dreams and Goals. Write down your specific goals and develop a plan to reach them.
  3. Take Action.  Goals are nothing without action.  Don’t be afraid to get started.  Just do it.
  4. Never Stop learning.  Go back to school or read books. Get training and acquire skills.
  5. Be Persistent and work hard.  Success is a marathon, not a sprint.  Never give up.
  6. Learn how to analyze details.  Get all the facts, all the input.  Learn from your mistakes.
  7. Focus on your time and money.  Don’t let other people or things distract you.
  8. Don’t be afraid to innovate, be different.  Following the herd is a sure fire way to mediocrity.
  9. Deal and Communicate with people effectively.  No person is an island.  Learn to understand and motivate others.
  10. Be Honest and Dependable.  Take Responsibility.  Otherwise, Nos. 1-9 don’t matter.

All completely obtainable for women 50+. Never give up, ladies. I know women in their 60s, 70s, and 80s who are living and pursuing their dreams. It is not too late!

While at the Art Institute, we just had to visit the fashion design class...young women learning how to follow their passions...oh, how I wish I could sew!
Have a great weekend, everyone! How do you pursue your dreams??

Your "living-like-you-feel-40" tip of the day: Don't listen to the voices telling you it is too late to do anything...just do, and don't think about your age. If there is a roadblock, find a way to plow it down!!

  1. Great tips, and I agree, it's never too late to pursue your dreams. Gigi's paintings are lovely!

  2. I too wish I could sew - in my mind I can, but in real life, all thumbs! I agree wholeheartedly that age should not be a barrier to pursuing our dreams. I was the oldest person in my grad school class, but I graduated just the same : >

  3. I love Gigi's painting! The details are great, and the face looks so natural.

  4. Great post. BUT ........ If you wish you could sew, you know you can. Take a class, its never too late to learn :)

  5. Gigi's painting is wonderful! I'm so glad you had a chance to highlight your trusted friend/co-worker/model.

  6. Great post, Pam!!!
Thanks for your comments. I too feel that we are great blog buds and it is wonderful to celebrate each other. (I was more speaking of the really huge blogs that are basically an advertisement w/o any more original content).
I love your positive outlook and the way you encourage other 50 pluses to keep on growing. I am a late bloomer, as I wasted my 20's looking for the 'right' guy and missed out on finding myself. Thus, proving again,it's never too late! I am always questioning the norm, authority and my intentions. I hope to grow each day through honesty and though the mirror of my on-line friends, like you :)
    Have a great weekend!

  7. Gigi is so talented! Very kind of you to feature her. You two seem like best buds.
    Have a great weekend, Pam!

  8. Your post was just what I needed today. Trying to find myself, follow my dreams, and start my life over can all be a bit overwhelming. It helps to be reminded to stay positive and to continue on the journey one step at a time :)

  9. Great post! I love the first painting on the blog.. its so vibrant and beautiful and I really love the painting that GIGI did.. I would love to be that creative with painting!! I also really love the 10 tips you posted, I especially like point #!.

    have a great weekend!! Jodi

  10. Gigi's portrait is stunning, and the Art Institute looks fab. Wish the Edinburgh College of Art here in Scotland was as funky - my daughter's a budding sculptor.
Let's hear it for young women pursuing their dreams!

  11. Great post, Pam! Boosting, motivating, thrilling, encouraging...
Thank you for reminding us that it's never too late to do something or to start a big adventure. I am about to start a very big one and your post has a very special meaning to me...
Good luck to Gigi and to you in all your projects!
