Fine Dining Every Day!

I work in a high school…granted, it is a private high school and is a Mercedes compared to most public educational facilities, but, nevertheless, it’s a high school. Not the most glamorous work environment.  On top of that, I have an inside room…no windows.  I have taught in this room day after day for over 13 years.
So, I have made a decision to upgrade my work area…just a tad.  My journalism classroom is designed purposefully to resemble a professional newsroom and it does, so there is not much I can do to bring in touches of glamour.   This week I started small…with my cups!  Out with the plastic, in with the glassware.  Like a gentle breeze, it has put a smile on my face and given me a chance to tell students who noticed, “Life is short.  Make fine dining a daily event!”

I try to bring this same attention to fun detail in my work wardrobe…occasionally wearing a little bling; pearls with denim; a faux fur collar…you, get the idea!!  The minute I saw this scarf a few years back at Walmart, I grabbed it.  Reduced to three dollars, it was the detail which caught my attention with the design painted on the scarf.

This is a very affordable look:
Chico’s Travelers jacket  (resale)  $16.00
Coldwater Creek skirt, on clearance,  $11.00
Walmart scarf, $3.00
Cynthia Rowley, gray tank, Marshalls - $10
Target Ballet Flats – so old I do not remember what I paid!!
Premiere Jewelry Bracelet: Two years ago
Have a great weekend everyone…remember to get out your elegant dishes and enjoy!!  Make fine dining a daily event!

psst....for those who saw a couple of Polyvores here earlier...I was just playing and did not mean for them to be published....YET!

  1. Pam! I think this is a splendid idea! Coffee or tea just tastes better out of a pretty cup!!

    1. Wine too out of a crystal stemmed glass.

  2. Great mix of neutrals and textures in your outfit! I don't know if I could handle a windowless room for hours on end. I salute you!

  3. A little bit of elegance goes a long way in making the ordinary "extraordinary". Well illustrated with the cup and the scarf :)

  5. Way to go Pam. I am so proud of you. And I think you are not only making yourself feel better, but you are setting such a good example for your students. Hubby and I decided to enjoy our best seven years ago when we downsized. Time is too short and space too limited to hold on to things you don't absolutely love. Have a great weekend.

  6. What a pretty scarf! I agree that those little elegant touches add so much to our environment and mood.

  7. Hi Pam--its all in the details...
Have a great weekend xoxxo Paula

  8. Love the bracelet - what a beautiful blog! Perhaps we could follow each other?

  9. Love how the bracelet, the scarf and the skirt all tell the same lacy story. Beautiful! I remember selecting my coffee mug for work very carefully - I needed every little lift I could get for the spirit trapped in a dungeon!

  10. Love the scarf and love that you are sprucing up your work area! It's the little things.... xo

  11. This is such a great idea. Just a few little things can make all the difference. I love your outfit and I want that bracelet!

  12. These little details are so important - you've inspired me for today, Pam, thank you!

  13. Good luck with Polyvore. I find it takes practice.

  14. I still have and use the original glassware - large, medium and juice glasses - I received at my wedding shower over 3 decades ago. I don't know how and why they haven't all broken by now but I think only one is missing. They're not plastic but they do seem a bit scratched and scuffed. I'm thinking of giving them away and buying more elegant ones. I tend to be resourceful so this would be a big step for me. Do I have your permission?!

  15. Absolutely....Yes go get them!! I think I will take out my crystal stems this weekend and enjoy them at home...why just class up the office!

  16. As a retired teacher, I used to have nightmares about being trapped in a classroom with no windows! I don't know how you do it. I hope the coloured glassware helps a bit!

Thanks so much for joining in our conversation today! I appreciate your time and love hearing from you!
