Signs of Summer 2012

Maybe in my past, the Frappuccino sign would have drawn me in…but,
as Donna Summer once sang…I’ve Got a New Attitude!
My summer is more defined by water and green tea…unsweet, of
course.  A student gifted me a Starbuck’s
card so I can drink their green tea for a little while.
Also, the only shopping I am doing is
sponsored shopping at Goodwill.  I am
really trying to put any sale shopping on hold for now (at least a month) until I can get my body
into better shape and fit into the clothes I bought last year when I was
lighter.  I am slowly going the other
direction now….progress, baby steps!
Marshall’s
I told my husband that I wanted to get moving more and he
suggested I wear a clicker and see how active I am.  He said that he imagined I walked about 6,000
steps a day.  His personal goal is between
17,000 and 20,000 a day.  He has a very
slim male friend who walks that amount every day.  So today was the first day for the clicker,
and I blew my husband away by doubling the amount.  I will say that I did not teach today and it
will be harder to move that much on days when I work. Mr. B is challenging me
to just walk one step more every day and build on my progress so that I can “up
my game.”  Today, I did things like park
far away from the stores where I was running errands, and walk down to the mail
box.  It was not as hard to reach that
number as I thought it would be…of course it included my morning walk in the
neighborhood!
These are the signs of my summer.  What signs represent yours??  Happy Saturday all!!

  1. Good for you, Pam!
I used to like sweet stuff like those coffee drinks, too. Now, I can't stand the taste of them. Too sugary!
Shopping is becoming boring for me since I did so much leading up to and during a recent trip. Though I did find a cute skirt and sweater at Goodwill this week – got out for under $8.00.
Have a great weekend and keep up your healthy habits. You are an inspiration.

  2. Go Pam
I am not a fan of the sweet Starbucks drinks-but I do like a nice skinny Carmel latte every so often. A tall is only 90 calories. I love the idea of the stepped thing. I never knew if those things really worked.

  3. I am glad you are doing so well on your mission to get healthy and lean. Did you drink tea before? I thought of trying green tea, but have never been a tea drinker. What kind do you suggest. Can you drink it iced? Deb

  4. I have always been a unsweet ice tea drinker…was raised on it. The big thing in the south right now is sweet tea and I think it is just as harmful as sodas. I really like unsweet, ice green tea. I usually make it at home, but the Starbucks gift allows me to buy it there when I am out. I do have friends who sweeten their tea with Stevia or Splenda.

  5. I have stopped drinking all soda, including diet. For a refreshing change, I take a flavored seltzer (0 cal) and add a little juice. It is a few calories, but enjoyable. You can tell it is summer by the trunk of my car. No yoga bag, just a beach bag, towels and swimming noodles. I am ready to go swimming at any time.

  6. woo hoo Pam!! lots of steps on that clicker. I was at a conference once where they asked us all to wear these clickers for the 3 days and at the end see who moved around the most. I blew them out of the water and they all couldn't believe it but it was funny because I was training for a race and every morning I was running about 18 km.. so of course my step count was HUGE.. lol

As for signs of summer… I love waking up early and hearing birds chirping and crickets making their noises and the slightly warm summer air wafting in the windows… now we just need to do something about the rain.. keeps raining here!! URGH 🙂
have a super weekend xox J

  7. Well done ! I can't get away from my hot tea with milk and one sugar, a bad habit I picked up when I was living in England ; it acts as a pacifier for me ! But a sure sign of summer is me trying to go on a diet ; I have high hopes of actually finishing one one day ! Have a nice week-end !

  8. Your summer signs are leading to a healthy path! The clicker is such a good idea because it's instant and measurable reinforcement. My summer signs include the smell of fresh paint and noticeable improvements in my home and garden.

  9. It has been summer alright…we have high 90s, full on humditiy today. I lasted in terms of running errands and stayed in. Plus I am exhausted from this week. I should get a pedometer to see how much walking I am doing….def not 17K steps a day?

  10. Now, I want a clicker! Where can a girl get one of those things? I've been pushing myself to be more active too–but swimming laps instead.

  11. Oh my gosh I related so much to this post Pam, I too refuse to buy any new clothes as I have so many in my wardrobe that would fit and feel so much better minus that very hard to lose last five kilos! I began wearing a 'clicker' a few weeks ago and have a goal of not less than 10,000 a day but hopefully much more. My new mantra is 'my body is a temple, not a trash can' haha! Good luck with your new attitude.
