|People put prized possessions on the mantle...don't they??|
I own no Chanel or Alexander McQueen or anything of great, great value. But, I happen to remember a quote from Coco Chanel, “In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.”
|First time to use the tripod...almost cut off my head!|
That made me think of this tunic….because it is really different. I have told the story of this garment a couple of times over the last 18 months, but for the sake of the theme, I will tell it once again. My husband went on a business trip to Las Vegas( perhaps 15 years ago), and returned with a shirt dress for me. The dress was a great print (he knew I loved big and bold) and was quite voluminous. After many attempts, there was really no way I could make it flattering. I was large and the dress made me look really, really large! But I loved the print and his heart to bring it to me. One day when I was cleaning my closet and pondering if I should just donate it, something came over me and I grabbed a pair of scissors and began to cut! I loved the pockets on the each side, so I made sure to cut just under them which actually left a point on the sides. Then I took it to the dry cleaners and got a small hem stitched in. I loved it….as a tunic and funky jacket. I would wear it more often, but it is so distinctive that people around me would think I owned nothing else.
The end of the story is…that I cherish this garment because it was originally a gift from my husband; it was my first attempt at my own fashion design; and because I really love the print!! It is not a Chanel or McQueen…but it is an original Pamela Lutrell(e) (you have to say this with a French accent, and an implied e on the end, to get the full affect!!)
