“The dress must not hang on the body but follow its lines. It must accompany its wearer and when a woman smiles the dress must smile with her.” ~Madeleine Vionnet

There is really nothing more feminine than a dress and dresses have returned to the fashion trend scene in a big way. My friend, Sacramento at  MISPAPELICOS says that American women love pants too much and don’t wear enough dresses. She may be right. She pens her blog from Spain and always looks fabulous.

Sacramento!  One classy Spanish lady!

One of my goals for the warmer weather is to have more dresses and skirts in my closet….especially now that I am feeling more confident in them. I had not noticed until recently that apparently since I gained so much weight, I stopped wearing dresses …in fact, avoided them at all costs. But, that is about to change!! I really hope to see the dress section of my closet begin to grow.

But, what do you think…do American women avoid dresses and favor pants too much???

“Dresses for breakfasts, and dinners, and balls;

Dresses to sit in, and stand in, and walk in;

Dresses to dance in, and flirt in, and talk in;

Dresses in which to do nothing at all;

Dresses for Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall.”

~William Allen Butler, “Nothing to Wear”
A FINAL NOTE:

and dresses!!

  1. Yay for skirts and dresses!!!! I think Sacramento may be right. We American Women do seem to love our slacks and jeans. I think our culture here is just so much more casual. Honestly, I've been wearing so many skirts and dresses, I almost feel guilty for not wearing pants. I just think that dresses and skirts are more feminine and give a better fit for a womanly figure. You look so lovely in your floral number! Have fun with the students!!! Hugs! ~Serene

  2. I love dresses and skirts. Nothing makes me feel so feminine. I have gained weight and the wrap dress is my friend. However, I hate pantyhose and may go the way of "What Not to Wear" and go bare legged!

  3. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, my dear Pam. thank you sooooooooooo much for the mention and for looking so adorable in that dress.
    Love you.
    Enjoy your retreat, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. HelPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!
    hahahahhahaha.

  4. You look so cute and springy!

    I tend to avoid dresses because I rarely seem to find any that fit my body. They tend to be cut proportionally too small in the bust. If they fit my bust, they're too big in the hips. That's why I stick with separates. For a long time, I wore pants because I didn't want to deal with pantyhose. (Tights are fine, but HATE hose.) Now that it's acceptable to go barelegged even in the office, I might do more skirts.

  5. You should definitely wear more skirts and dresses. You look great. And you look so happy. It warms my heart.

    Have fun on that retreat. Sounds like it will be lots of fun and lots of craziness!

    xoxo,

  6. Have fun on your retreat! I think Sacramento is right. I know since I've started blogging (and following my color of the month) that I've had to PUSH to come up with at least one dress per month. I do love skirts though.

  7. I think she is right. So often if I arrive to a lunch or outing with a friend they act like I'm so dressed up when i'm wearing a simple skirt or dress. Jeans are the American womans standard, it seems. Let's start a revolution. VIVA LA DRESS!

  8. Have fun with the kids. You look great in your dress and I like the picture you included of Sacramento. I wear wants way too much. Time to bust out some skirts and buy a dress or two.

  9. Oh boy – good luck!!

    You look so pretty! I love dresses and skirts in warm weather – so much more feminine than shorts!

  10. First of all I hope that you have a great trip. Secondly, I love dresses on other people and hope to look good in them again soon. I think they are feminine and flirty especially in the spring and summer. My entire wardrobe right now is separates because I can get the most mileage from my clothing that way by mixing and matching. While I don't have dresses yet, I have started wearing more skirts recently.

  11. I am planning to wear more flowing skirts and knit tops, and dresses this spring/summer!

    I think keeping a balanced, lean and long line is important to avoid any frumpiness!

    I have a Giveaway from The Zhush I know you will love! Come & join!

  12. You look great in your dress and blazer! Good luck with the teens- what a job, but I'm sure fun too. I prefer dresses/skirts to pants! I should have been born in the 40's.

  13. You look beautiful in the dress! I wear dresses more in the summer, but I tend to choose whatever pops out at me to accessorize my hat of the moment.

  14. i think many do favor denim…it's so easy to throw on a pair of jeans. i personally love dresses…not only for the instant outfit factor, but it's transitional from day to night, slippers to heels. and even a simple dress with slippers is a bit more dressed up than shorts and a tee. love that your threw the jacket on over the dress. i've been loving that combo lately.
