Love You All – But Sitting Out Friend Friday

The name of our high school
newspaper is The Revelation, but I
love the fact that ELATION is above my head!
Facing the day with JOY is a must!!

Back in the 1980s, for a short time I was one of the judges for the Miss Texas/USA Pageant circuit. (Ok, I know you are looking at my picture and thinking HER???…I haven’t always looked this way guys!) There were some things about this position that I loved….elegant hotels & exquisite restaurants were at the top of the list….but the actual job was always so stressful to me. Narrowing a group of really impressive young ladies down to just one was tough. I guess I have a heart for losers! My criteria for selection were so different from the other judges…but I suppose that is why they have a panel and not just three.

While rewards are great and recognition food for creativity, I am going to join with Terri at http://ragsagainstthemachine.blogspot.com and sit out the Friend Friday award nominations. I have been motivated, educated, and touched by so many bloggers for different reasons and I could never begin to narrow them down to ten or place them in categories. Once again, my criteria would be so different from others. I love looking at the nominations on other sites, however, and encourage you to do just that.

When I judged pageants, I was looking for an intelligent spokesperson more than a beauty queen. On the blogs, I follow women whose style encompasses more than clothing…..there are so many out there and I hope to recognize them in different ways as I go forward!!

GREAT NEWS: If the interview doesn’t get postponed, I am scheduled to meet with an amazing woman tomorrow and I look forward to sharing her life with all of you!!

  1. Hi. I am over 50, hopping on the over 40 hop and hoping to be over 400 on the CSN Bathroom Voting Contest.
Ask someone to Vote and Validate the email, please. It only takes a few seconds and doesn't cost anything to help. It's for a much needed bathroom repair/makeover.

  2. Pam, so sorry…I just got your text at 4am when I got up to work out. I'll have to check and see what the friend friday questions were. Sounds like they were of the "Who's your favorite?" variety. Hugs girly! ~Serene

  3. I'll admit, they're a few pages of the FBFF that I want to bookmark- cuz the list of nomineess looked good! But I would find it hard to nominate- there are SO many great blogs out here, and in need of recognition.

I want to thrown in some applause on you in your weight loss journey. I think between you and Collette I may make a move to drop some poundage myself. Wishing you a grand Friday, and weekend!

  4. Laurie – Thanks for dropping by!! I visited your site and I will be back!!
Serene – The text was just a shot…sometimes I have a little difficulty figuring things out, but turns out I didn't need it any way! I am up at 4:30 but do not usually check the phone until 6.
Collette – your inspiration on the weight loss journey has helped me more than you will every know!
Bella – I love the way you highlight bloggers!! You do an amazing job of connecting all of us! you are an award winner to me and I hope you will join Collette & I and so many others in weight loss world…it has been really tough…but the support group has helped!

  5. Pam – you are looking GREAT! I KNOW how hard it is too lose weight – keep up the good work! BTW – skirts are easier to wear when losing weight – they can hide the feeling of drooping clothes! And it might be worth your while to get a few of your best pieces taken in – they can last another few months that way. Love the blog – Hugs to you! Kay 🙂

  6. I couldn't agree with you more. I think it is important to look beyond physical beauty. Too much importance is placed on that.

Thank you so much for wishing me congratulations on my pregnancy. I will try to get some baby bump pictures posted in the next week or so.

  7. We need more people like you who value intelligence over the more superficial things. Also, I love that pattern on your shirt, so fun!

  8. I understand how you feel about competitions, because how can you really decide how one person is somehow better than another, and at the end of the day, it's just a popularity contest, who has more friends.

    Chic on the Cheap

  9. Wow! I love finding out more and more about the ladies I love on the blogosphere.

I LOVE staying in nice hotels. My husband thinks it's hilarious how I parade around the room. Putting on the robes and digging through the amenities. So much fun.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  10. Hi I'm from the Over 40 blog hop with Java! I love meeting women more my own age. Now, I guess this year I'm over 60 cuz I'll be 61 in June. Hey, it's only a number right? I'm your latest follower. Nice to meet you. I hope you have a great weekend. I'll be back to browse your blog. It looks pretty interesting.

  11. Woot-woot for school newspapers! I love that students continue to learn about the importance of journalism — from watchdog pieces that hold our government accountable to feature stories that tell us more about the communities and schools we live in. Nothing sharpens a writer's critical thinking skills more than having to reason out an editorial.

I did participate in this weeks FBFF blog nominations. Frankly, I didn't think terribly hard about whether to participate or not. I honestly looked at it as one more way to give a little shout-out to a few of the (long, huge) list of blogs I read regularly. I guess it can be a popularity contest if nominees were to start taking it really seriously, but I interpreted it as a compliment and nothing more or less.
I can understand your reasoning, however, and I'm glad you went with your gut!

  12. Pam–what a cool job that would have been. I am faculty advisor for our campus literary magazine and in that case, I also avoid reading anything, choosing to let the students do the work. That way, when I have to break the hard news to writers who aren't selected for publication, I can honestly report that I haven't a clue why they were not selected.

  13. Did I see a news blurb someplace about some controversy with Miss San Antonio recently?

That is a super outfit. I love denim with brown. That skirt should be easy to adjust as you shrink away. You can, with your trusty safety pin, just add another pleat and keep it from falling off.

  14. Your blog is amazing and you are amazing, too! I love it! I am definitely a believer in keeping your style at any age. I just made a shopping trip yesterday to get some more basics since I have outgrown and given away many of my clothes — they were too big! My weightloss journey has been very slow, but I'm still trying and feeling great dressing my size. I'm also a fan of What Not To Wear and have been for a long time.

Stop over if you get the chance.
    Have a great weekend!

  15. I sat it out too. I hate hurting people's feelings. : ) haha And thank you so much for telling your daughter about me! You're so thoughtful! Have a great Sunday friend. xo

  16. Pam – Thank you for blogging about why you were sitting this out. After spending all weekend reading through the nomination I just got clued into the fact that there were a couple of you who opted out of this week's questions. I'm feeling horrible that this could be turned into something that would make people feel bad or left out. So thank you! – Katy
