January 14: Fabulous Friend Friday!!

Can I phone a Friend???  Wait!  Sometimes I do get outfit
ideas from friends!

1. How do you determine what you will wear that day? More often than I care to admit, I come up with the outfit that morning while standing in the closet. But, I will say that blogging is prompting me to be more organized and thoughtful with this process. So, slowly, just recently, I am beginning to plan more in advance.

2. Do you plan outfits out in advance for a whole week, month, or weekend? As I just said, I am beginning to. When I came up with the idea I am currently in the middle of, 11 Priorities for 2011, I began a plan for outfits which communicated those priorities. But, I have already changed a couple of the original outfits because a spur of the moment outfit trumped them. I am beginning to “play dress up” on Sundays after church! I already have hair, makeup and under-things done, so I will spend a little time in front of the mirror putting together some different looks. This will cut down on time during the week.

3. Do you have any specific way of tracking outfits and items already worn so you don’t repeat them? No, I am sure I need to do this….I could easily see myself repeating something because I was busy and didn’t take time to remember. I do have all of my pictures saved, but there is probably a better way!!!

4. How do you discover new combos of items in your closet? I got this idea from other bloggers, but I am starting to rip ideas out of magazines and keep a file. If I do this, then my eye will naturally go toward those items next time I am in the closet. Also, my personal goal is to wear a different look every day. If I keep that in mind, I will stay away from things I know I have done before.

5. To streamline the process for 2011, what is one new thing you can to do to cut down on your dressing time? ORGANIZE! Funny, this has been heavy on my mind. Since I started the blog last July, my closet has become a scary, disorganized mess. This three day weekend for me has been a closet organizing weekend on my calendar since before Christmas. We will see how I do…there are many challenges inside those doors!!

Who knows what outfit ideas lurk behind these doors!

How I wish I'd thought of your blog title!

  2. Wow! You are one busy lady with some ambitious priorities 🙂 My word for the year is DONE! and in order to help me do that I am celebrating everything, and simplifying everything…including my wardrobe. No more heels, I went gray last year (when I turned 50 🙂 Gasp! and I love it. No more spending $170 and three hours at the salon every 5 weeks. It is now $45 dollars in 45 minutes. One of my 50@50 goals is to do a complete wardrobe makeover (didn't make it at 50) but will be working on that this year. Love the doors to your room. I'm seeing that for my home office 🙂 I could shut the door, yet still see out 🙂 Don't you just love when you can have your cake and eat it too? I found you via the Friday Blog Hops. 3. Smart to take a little planning time when you have the breather and are already dressed up on Sunday. So often I try on something and take it off because I am discontent with the overall look, but a lot of it has to do with not having my hair or make-up done yet. Once that is in place a lot more outfits seem plausible. – Katy

  4. Hi, I'm impressed that you can plan outfits ahead of time. I must be an emotional dresser, same as I eat emotionally and have tried to plan meals for a month at a time, and couldn't stick to what it was supposed to be that particular day! lol
I'm over from 40 and FF, I look forward to knowing more from your blog. I'm a new blogger, http://www.dont-worry-bout-a-thing.blogspot.com

  5. I enjoyed reading your answers. I am a nurse, my outfits are easy to plan. I have a multitude of stylish scrubs, which can be mixed-and-matched, and I decide the night before what outfit I want to wear. I get up by 4:15, I do not want to be in the closet trying to pick out an outfit.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend,
    Shawn

  6. I buy expensive classic clothes that never go out of style. I never buy anything that isn't basic. I can be dressed and out the door in 30 min. I enjoyed your blog. Doylene

  7. When I lost about 40 pounds a few years back, I gave my closet an overhaul. Every season I go through it and try everything on. If I don't love it, out it goes. Now, dressing is no problem or hassle! I also found I love to wear dresses and skirts. I'm a girlie-girl at heart. :o)

Visiting and following from the Over40 hop. Happy Friday! :o)

  8. My closet is now a bedroom, hallway , entire floor of laundry room, linens closet, and on and on…

Maybe we can help each other through…….

I have been on an organizing binge ever sense I cleaned up my make-up
Husband sounded worried about today when he called and asked what I was doing and I said organizing my socks, tights and hose. LOL

  10. oh man, i love hearing about how other people get dressed/organized. i am currently a slight mess in the whole department which is why i'm trying to do a big closet clear out and get more streamlined! xx
