Friend Friday….Reader Connectedness

WOW…tough questions…but here goes.  These are great because they cause the blogger to evaluate, learn, ponder, plan, adjust……

1. How important do you think reader connectedness is to the success your blog?

My desire from the beginning is that women 50+ would connect on this blog and share ideas and advice. I would love for the blog to be a gathering place of information. I am uncomfortable for it to be “all about me” because that is not the purpose for which I started this. I desire to inspire and inform. So, reader connectedness to me is very important!

2. What do you do to draw readers in and create that writer-reader bond?

These are difficult questions for one who has only been at this for six months. I hope that a conversational style of writing with a dose of honesty & humility will draw people in to respond and return. I am honest about the fact that I am not a professional stylist, but have taken a hobby I love and developed it to benefit women going through a difficult time of life. I also try to write in a personal way for this audience.

3. What is one way you could improve this connection?

I would love to be able to comment right back to visitors on the site. I started a page specifically to address reader questions, but I do not really know if they will see it. There are days that I would love to keep a conversation going.

4. Is there a blogger you think does a great job creating that writer-reader bond? Why?

Terri at http://ragsagainstthemachine.blogspot.com/ does the best job that I can see…she returns to the comments often to further comment on what is said. Also, the ladies at http://southerncomfort.blogspot.com/ seem to keep a conversation going in the comment section by returning to it often.

5. What do you do to cultivate new readers? How do you get them to your site in the first place?

I so wish I had more time to work on this area. I just ordered business cards and plan to get out in the community of San Antonio over the holidays to promote the blog. I try to visit a variety of blogs every day. I also want to write more in depth articles around several topics, and learn more. It all takes something that is precious these days: TIME. I have to juggle the blog with teaching (and all that it entails), wife, mother, daughter to live in mom, monthly freelance writer with deadlines. Sometimes it is overwhelming, but the blog is so much fun…I want to keep it going….wish I could make a salary doing it!

Have a Fabulous Friday, Ladies!  I have basketball tonight, so I will see you over the weekend!

  1. Pam, great answers! I agree with you on Rags and Southern comfort. I feel like they (along with you) are not "followers" but rather friends; women with whom I feel a kinship. ~Serene

  2. Thank you Pam and Serene for the nice words! We do want to be friends with everyone and keep up a conversation. If there's one thing Southern girls can do, it's talk!

  3. I enjoyed reading this and just finally read your profile and I realized you are in San Antonio I was just there at the end of October for my cousins wedding. I've been multiple times but this was the first time we actually got to see the sights. Anything I also agree with you on the rag and southern comfort blog. I think we all have a similar goal to interact w/our readers.
