YES! SHE’S GOT LEGS!

My space!

I am sitting here at my desk reflecting on the day. It is rare when high school kids comment on my look….but several of them did today.

“Mrs. L, do you have a meeting or something today? You’re all dressed up.” This said by a football player who normally notices nothing but the sandwich on his plate.

Later…..

“Mrs. L, you look different today. Are you dressed up for something special?”

HMMMMMMM……….

In order to understand the comments, I must begin at the beginning. It all started with this other comment:

I bet you have great legs..c’mon, let’s see um!

My new blogging friend was sweetly giving me encouragement after I confessed to not being as confident in skirts as I am in trousers and jeans.

This morning, though, I was determined one way or another to wear a skirt. First I narrowed it down to three that were good for today’s weather and activities. One was denim, one was brown corduroy, and one was a black pinstripe.

Four years ago, I ran into Marshall’s seeking an outfit for a particular occasion. I left with a silk black pinstripe suit. The jacket is a boyfriend cut style and the skirt a long black pencil with a khaki brown pinstripe. I wore it as a suit for that occasion and never wore it as a suit again. I distinctly remember looking in the mirror and singing “I’m so stuffy I could cry.” ( Country & Western for those of you who don’t know)

That is the day the jacket and skirt were broken up and it was bliss for all parties concerned. The jacket has been my favorite jacket since then…I wore it last week on the MIX IT UP entry; but I think I have worn the skirt a whopping four times. I know the last time I wore it was over a year ago. Yet, when I tried it on today, I thought, WHY DO I NOT WEAR THIS SKIRT MORE???

LEGS!!!!!

And with the all the comments I received, I know I will wear it more. It is interesting that my students consider a skirt dressing up. Sometimes I think my pants are more dressed up.

But I did toss in some fun accessories. Gold was the answer to this outfit with a couple of wonderful vintage finds.

 The total look was

TAHARI skirt from Marshall’s

Lane Bryant Black Knit Shirt

Liz Claiborne Shirt Jacket

Necklace, Ring from Resale Shop

Bracelets were gifts

Belt from Stein Mart

Shoes by Nicole

Separating this jacket from the skirt was the right move!

Gigi rocked her own skirt today and showed more
leg than I!

SPECIAL NOTE:  I AM PLANNING A DAY TO TAKE OFF THE MASK AND HALT THE HEADLESS HORSEMEN PICTURES!
BUT, I WANT TO DO THIS WITH A TOUCH OF STYLE…..Stay tuned!

  1. You have great suspense going in this entry with the French doors, the long explanation, and the slow reveal! The outfit looks fantastic and just the compliments from students alone are no doubt worth it. Paula has pushed me out of a few of my ruts as well. I like the jewels! And look forward to seeing your face.

  2. You might take your student's comments that your pants-only attire has become a stylistic statement.

    I really like those shoes.
